Marcel Sabitzer | Signs for United

He was really good at Leipzig so I'm assuming Ragnick wanted him badly to play as our #8 last year in a 4-2-2-2.

Not sure he can do the Eriksen passing from deep, but he can run as much and get into the left half space well. Bruno maybe a shade deeper and on the right and more of a 4-3-3 in possession I'd guess, with Casemiro central. Not sure if he'll play as the DM when Casemiro is gone. My guess is we'll try him and Fred together but might be a bit lacking in power and deep passing.

Great move, overall. We retain flexibility to get whichever of De Jong/Caicedo/Rice/Enzo/Bellingham is gettable (or a 6th under-25 player who emerges in the next 4 months as being on that level, like whoever looks the best from Mac Allister, Kone, Lavia, Frattesi, Onana, Merino, Zubimendi, Koopmeiners, a South American I've never seen play or the backup cheap options of Tielemans, Neves).

Do we have Wreck-It Ralf to thank for this bit of business?

But be warned, he needed quite a while to acclimate for us.
Here all he needs is to be better than McTominay - in this case he will already be able to share a huge amount of minutes with Fred

Has Merson ever had a correct take on United? Most blinkered, bitter ABU going. Bet he hasn't uttered a word of criticism over Chelsea's spending.

Think someone went through his matchday prediction in one season for United matches and accumulated for the entire season it was something like four wins, 22 draws and 12 losses.

About as good a loan deal we could get at this late stage

Good signing this if we get it over the line

Against bigger teams that's fair if he slots in and adjusts quickly to the league but against lesser teams Eriksen is much better at unlocking defenses and creating chances.
Hard to say. The benefit Eriksen has is he's proven a good fit for our team, and dare I say it - he's been rather crucial to our progress as a team. Sabitzer is an unknown quantity - never played English football for starters.

Ideally we'd probably look to upgrade on both this summer if we want to compete for the title though.
Eriksen seems vulnerable to the press at times, Sabitzer is at least a natural in that position.
Don't think so. Hopefully his superior work rate will compensate for inferior passing and will be able replacement for Eriksen. And then become part of midfield rotation after we bid goodbye to McT in summer.
He's not better than Eriksen. He's roughly on a similar level to Fred. Similar style to guys like Gallagher and Mount. Better than Gallagher. Worse than Mount. Good presser, good shooter, will score some goals for us, decent technique, not much of a playmaker but can link up fine. Attacking box to box mid.
He's got some qualities Eriksen lacks, but lacks qualities Eriksen offers. He's definitely a better option than Fred/McTominay but we'll still lack creativity from midfield until Eriksen returns. But as far as a deadline day signings go given our situation this would be nothing short of brilliant.

Thanks chaps. I'm quite excited to see him. Different qualities for sure and probably less suited against lower table opposition, but hopefully brings some benefits along as well in other areas. After being resigned to losing Eriksen and having no one coming in then this feels like a decent win.

Feel if we had Sabitzer permanently we may be looking for more of a De Jong type player or do you feel Caicedo can provide that

I think if Sabitzer was to sign permanently then I reckon we won’t go for De Jong. Caicedo for me would probably make the more sense. Younger, premier league proven and can also over time learn to play a more advanced midfield role under ETH’s tutelage.

Again, it’s all if, buts and maybes. Will need to wait and see. Nothing has been finalised with this Sabitzer move yet.

Have to get someone on or we are playing Casemiro and Bruno every game with Fred & McTominay rotating the other position... And probably having to go three at the back to close out most games.

This deal would be OK.

And if we check the same for Arsenal, it will be all wins and draws.

I still think it will be tight if Chelsea dont get Enzo through. They will be all over this. We need to get it done before they get a chance.

Well, he's got a shot on him which is good against deep sitting teams, which will encourage them to come out a bit or get some balls smashed into the corner of the net. We've lacked that threat for a long while.

Because they have Goetzka who plays his role? He’s never injured.

I mean why did Madrid let Casemiro leave and Varane etc etc

Just had a look at the Bayern team and even Muller gets picked ahead of this guy!

Casemiro and Varane don't really compare. Madrid are happy to cash in players once they have had the best out of them.

We are signing a player that can't get in the Bayern team.

No. He was linked to us under Solskjaer. He’s a legacy target.
For fecks sakes     -> Still got to be approved by EtH and the recruitment team again for christ sakes. Legacy Target, never heard something so silly in my entire life.:lol::lol::lol:

He did say we should sell Martial after his high scoring season and replace him with Kane. We laughed at the time but in hindsight the broken clock was right for once.

The poster you quoted literally explained to you why Sabitzer can't get in Bayern team.

You seem to have no idea mate

Not sure why some of you laugh and have a pop at Merson. We’re going in for a player with hours left until the deadline in response to some injury news. Could definitely be construed as a panic buy.

Also if Merse had sat there and said about every single one of our signings over the past 10 years that “they’ll be absolutely fecking shit” he’d have a 90% strike rate.

I do trust Ten Hag though even if this last min. He has a proper system that players could slide into.

Give it a rest ffs  I don't know how anyone can see any negativity in this deal

See all the powerful feckers in our club running around in panic, bumping into walls, tearing their hair out, cursing the gods and yelling, "Why?? Why can't we plan ahead!?"

You are either having a mare or trolling, it's hard to tell as it's poor on both fronts

I wasn’t being disrespectfut. Someone was trying to give Ralf credit for a player who has been on our radar for years.

Im not claiming ETH didn’t have involvement. Maybe understand what you’re responding to.

Coincidence or no?

It's a panic buy but it's par for the course for this 'football' club. But it's better than nothing and we only need to defend our position in the top 4, as opposed to chasing it.

In your opinion, we should sign a player who gets in, in which team?

I still think it will be tight if Chelsea dont get Enzo through. They will be all over this. We need to get it done before they get a chance.
There's not a chance he would prefer them. On a loan deal, manager like Ten Hag, club like United, and he's got a good chance of being a starter for this half season between him and Fred.

As good as we could get at this stage, I'm all for it. I don't think he's as good as Eriksen but he's certainly better than the alternatives in Fred and McTominay.

Will remind you he's a nothing player when he pops up with an assist in big game whether that's Nou Camp, Wembley or better still Anfield

Haha I hope you do if it means he assisted or scored a big goal.

You rate him?

I wouldn’t bother listening to anyone’s opinion about a team that they don’t watch every single game of. I mean honestly, what insight could he offer apart from some technical aspects of a player, like shooting technique.

He will have no idea about modern tactics having not played for 30 years. No idea about Ten Hag, Sabitzer, or even United tactically, as he wouldn’t watch us enough. It’s just a complete waste of time paying attention to people like him.
