I've never really agreed with the idea of buying backup players.
Buy somebody to go in to the first team instead and Fred and Eriksen can be the 'backup' players next season.
What about Casemiro. We need his backup and its hard to find a player whose backup would be him.
Do we have any academy players ready to fill the backup roll for number 8 position?
Yeah a Casa backup needs to be higher priority
I really doubt he would come here to be a back up player when he can be one at Munich who has better chance to win medals in general.

Sabitzer is 28. I think we should aim to put money into a younger player since most of our midfield (Erickson, Fred, Casemiro) is 30+. It's not like he's so outstanding that we should buy him despite his age, he's decent. We can find cheaper decent options
I thought the estimate was he’d cost us £15m? That is a cheap decent option if accurate.
Our bench does look comfortable, to be fair.
Personally, he's a ok-ish back-up player but I wouldn't want the club to spend anything over 10 million for the guy.
Plus his wages... It adds up. I mean, maybe we haven't seen the best of him yet, he's already better than Mctominay so I'm not against him staying, but the age of our midfield and how we play does worry me. Burnout like Liverpool isn't out of the question by 2025

There's a reason Bayern wanted to get rid of him. I'm still amused that some people on the internet were puzzled by the sudden move. I was not, it was clear from the first game on that Bayern was one step too far for the lad. And naturally, Manchester United would be one step too far in expectations as well.

Bayern didn’t want to get rid of him. They agreed to let him move on loan because he wanted to go to United.
They didn’t agree an option and rumour suggested wouldn’t allow him to go to Chelsea or another CL club due to the rivalry.
Sabitzer is a good all round squad option. He can play at 6,8 or 10. Even full back. He’s very fit, works hard and is technically sound in most areas. He’s the type of player teams need. They aren’t superstars, and have limitations, but are very useful.
I think it’s perhaps your expectations that are a bit off with him.
Surprised that people are against singing him. He'd instantly improve the overall quality of our midfield options and is versatile. I do want to see him line up next to Casemiro instead of Fred as well.
Yeah problem is that Erik hasn't tried them as a partnership yet,makes me think he's not sure where he fits in next season. Also how is gonna know whether he can cover Casa.

How long until he will be back? We definitely could have done with him in the midfield rotation today, especially when McTominay looks more like a forced choice for ETH while Mainoo just doesn't look like he will be playing in the Premier League any time this season.

Eh, sometimes you need one. Like we should probably let Weghorst go, move Martial even if it means eating some of his deal and then sign a starting #9 and also a decent backup like Thuram on a free or someone with 1-2 years left so maybe not an insane price or you can find a swap, like Iheanacho or En-Neysri or whoever can be gotten.
Like in midfield we need a starting #8 and a backup for Casemiro both. So the first costs a ton, and the 2nd you have to be clever and find someone for cheap like Brentford did scooping Norgaard off the Fiorentina bench or Dortmund getting Ozcan cheap or Ajax spending 15M on Edson Alvarez type thing or Atletico getting Kondogbia for 10M. Those DMs are out there. Though I'm not totally sure Ten Hag is out on McTominay, his size and mobility are good, he might think he can drag him up a level to passable backup and not have to spend money or make a further squad change when we might already have 5 new players (Striker, #8, GK, RB, CB) conceivably coming in during one summer.
What the latest on this fellow? just typical you bring in player to cover for the injured Eriksen and he gets injured himself. With Casemiro out for 4 games Sabitzer is needed on the field more than ever.

Now he is no where near his form back in Leipzig days, I mean if he can help us cement the top 4 place, and advance in both cups, I would be happy to sign him permanently next year.
Otherwise we need a big upgrade in the central midfield area, Rabiot is free and we have a few promising young players, Mainoo, Iqbal, Hannibel, Alvaro Fernandez, hope one or two will be good enough for the first team.

I don't understand people writing him off? He's played 7 games and has started none of those beside Case.
I want to see him beside Case for a few games before judging as I still believe there's a decent player in there, and certainly an upgrade on the rest of the midfielders we have behind Case, Bruno and Fred.

Such an brilliant player at leipzig, its a shame this have conspired against him basically never being next to casemiro. all of our midfielders have looked shaky without casemiro
