Marc Cucurella - World Class Hairdo

So people ready to write him off because he had one bad season in a horrible Chelsea side? He was a stand out at Brighton and suits ten Hag’s recent move to having inverted full backs. Im certain he will do well in place of Shaw and be a superior option to Fernandez and Dalot.

I don't think we should be signing a left back, but he's the best of the mooted options in my view.

Kinda. They were both were a bit underwhelming overall though. Not flops but hardly successes in my opinion.
Juan Mata definitely was. Record club signing in 2013 at the time, and you can count on one hand the amount of top level performances he had. He gets a pass owing to Juanfield and him being a naturally nice cute chap.

Maatsen and if he's injured then whoever. Whoever is a better option than Cucurella.

That bad? Damn! Its crazy hearing this, given the promise he showed at Brighton.

Hoping he can rekindle his Brighton form at United if it goes through.

He's been a disaster for Chelsea. In what way is this move remotely positive?

Sigh. Looks like this is happening then.

I guess a small silver lining is the fact that he looked not completely useless for Brighton in the not too distant past. Maybe Ten Hag has seen something he can work with.

Interesting way to say he looked very good at Brighton…

Bissouma is having a resurgence under a proper coach after looking dogshite under "Conte terrorist", as my Spurs mate calls him.

No doubt Cucurella was a good player at Brighton, Pep wanted him. I know, he wanted Fred blah blah. But we all saw he was a good player there.

Unfair to judge any player during the last 18 months or so at Chelsea.

If this is a sale, then you have to start questioning the logic of ETH.

He is on 175k a week. Why do we want to take that on for someone who will be a second, maybe third chose left back in a two months?

Mata's issue was him joining us at literally the worst possible time. Moyes in free fall, United with a squad that needed major surgery and very much on the way down. He played regularly for 4 different coaches and gave us some great memories. I would definitely not consider him a flop.

Everyone was a disaster for Chelsea last season yet most on here have those same players as top 4 contenders this season.
Why is this player any different?

Bingo.

Another small player to makes us even more vulnerable on set pieces.

Transfermarkt says he can cover both LCB and RCB too. A nice little versatile player if so.

Understand the skepticism but hopefully getting him back to his former level.

Struggling to think of any defenders who have bounced back from a poor spell after a big move but i'm sure there are some.

The Chelsea ruined him thing is funny, but he played under Potter at the time.

Most definitely.

Pogba displayed a vast amount of better performances than Mata during his shorter spell at United, but I bet the majority of United fans on here wouldn't label his time here as ''fine''.

Time for Ten Hag to show us he's a solid manager and get a tune out of him (assuming he signs). A couple months under Tuchel, a few more under Potter (admittedly his old manager) and the rest under Lampard - the latter two when the players had practically all downed tools with zero to fight for - is enough to write off.

He was great for Brighton, we need that version badly.

Taking two underperforming Chelsea players off their hands in the space of two months.

We are a meme club.

Wan Bissaka?

I know he didn't make a move, but he's been fantastic since being reintroduced back into the team.

He was far from useless for Brighton, he was a brilliant player for them.

I’d be happy with a loan but seems strange that Chelsea would agree to that.

buying him outright would feel like another short term decision/panic buy

We have Chilwell and Maatsen for LB/LWB so getting rid of Cucurella who's on high wages makes a lot of sense, even if it's only a temporary move.

Reportedly we're after a £7M loan fee and United have offered £2M. Let's say the difference is split in the middle and the final loan fee was around £5M. That fee as well as having United paying his salary for the season would be a wonderful deal for us. Basically he'd only cost us £4M for the season as compared to the £18M he currently does (amortisation + salary).

Next year his book value would be lower and chances are he'd have redeemed himself a little bit playing for you lot so it could be much easier to get rid of him on a permanent move then, even if you didn't buy him.

We absolutely need to sign one.

Our only option right now is to play AWB and Dalot for 90 minutes every game.

Previously, I'd said I'd sign a CB and play Martinez at LB until Malacia returns. Having now seen the news about Varane, I'm even more inclined towards that course of action.

I'm not looking forward to seeing us start Maguire and Evans together at CB, but I fear that day is now not far away...

It's all about environments for players. People don't seem to get that.
