Was a monster today, nice to see some of our players actually stepping up and digging in for a derby game. Loved his aggression.
fantastic today. Weird what happens with a proper DM in the team. Will only get better as he adjusts to England.
I think he's showing glimpses of that technical quality. Still only 23 as well, plenty of room for further development.Back in 2020, before he even moved to Europe, I recommend him on here after seeing him play for Uruguays youth team. I don't think anyone mentioned him before. Happy to see him coming good here.
Thing is, he's actually turned into a different style of midfielder. In the youth team, I likened him to de jong on here as he was more of a controller who could resist pressing opposition. Since he moved to Sporting, he became more of an all action type that covers every blade of grass. I'm still surprised by this.
In fairness, they got a better fit for the money we paid so it worked out for everyoneHow did PSG let this lad go. Great all rounder.
With Casemiro potentially departing in the summer, it’s crucial to secure a reliable backup for him to maintain balance in the midfield. Ederson has been linked as a versatile option who can not only cover for Ugarte but also partner alongside him when needed, offering flexibility and defensive solidity. Additionally, bringing in a player like Gomes to replace Eriksen could inject creativity and energy into the midfield.
Signing Gomes on a free is just way too obvious a move for us to make. With Casemiro potentially departing in the summer, it’s crucial to secure a reliable backup for him to maintain balance in the midfield. I'm not complaining but it just seems odd. He's one of the best ball winners in Europe, all the best teams have great ball winners. In fairness, they got a better fit for the money we paid so it worked out for everyone
Not sure they did get a better fit. In many of their CL games I’ve seen this season they have really missed someone with a bit of grit in the middle of the parkIn fairness, they got a better fit for the money we paid so it worked out for everyone
Was thinking this? He has been playing well for a good few games now but because its the non fancy stuff no one sees. He's been solid for a while now. Makes that midfield more agressive

He’s only 23, wtf? One year older than Amad. WildI think he's showing glimpses of that technical quality. Still only 23 as well, plenty of room for further development.
I do remember that. You tagged me, but I hadn't been following that youth team (not as good a vintage as the one before).Back in 2020, before he even moved to Europe, I recommend him on here after seeing him play for Uruguays youth team. I don't think anyone mentioned him before. Happy to see him coming good here.

I know what you mean. The best way I could explain it on here, when people kept doubting him, was that he quite simply stopped rivals making anything happen through the middle. There's been a lot of talk about his ball winning and stamina but what stands out to me is how intelligent he is. I don't know how to explain it but it's just apparent in the way he moves around midfield. Get him the right partner and we can finally have something decent in the middle.
Amorim has more - but Ugarte is indeed one of themI think Amorim has maybe 2 or 3 nailed on starters at the moment, and he's one of them.
Agree completely. He’s far better on the ball than given credit for but it’s in his own way. He’s never going to be the player to set the tempo of a match and looks like he gets a nose bleed when shooting, but his overall passing and press resistance is actually top tier. He’s very good at getting out of tight situations. Obviously the main reason he is here is his ball winning and reading of the game and from what I’ve seen he already excels in those areas.Loved that bit where a high ball was dropping down on top of him in a crowded area of the pitch. With all the talk before he arrived of him being some sort of one dimensional clogger (looking at you, Carl Anka) you would fully expect him to Brexit the ball back up in the air. But oh no, kills it dead and instantly backheels it to a player in space. Sort of thing Berbatov would do. The dude has hidden depths.
I think betting everything on Enrique's dogmatic possession football will be a mistake for them. They saw from the Champions League games last season Ugarte wasn't very good for them. Maybe a bit of scapegoating but he definitely didn't do well and lost the trust of the club
Yep - I was one of them - absolutely love being wrong.Quality today again. Funny that some people wrote him off in his first few appearances for ETH.
