Say what you want about Ole and the players, but when the pressure is starting to mount they can pull a decent run of form out the bag, I expect tonight to be the begining of said run and we sorely need it, another loss will not go down well.

We haven’t done well under Ole in these must win games. Look at all the semis we lost, final last year, UCL last year. Sure we might have won one or two but the general consensus is we don’t do well. So a draw wouldn’t be the most surprising result.

I mean Ole himself said in his presser that this isn’t a must win game. If that’s the mentality that gets transferred to the players then we are in trouble.
If you believe in anything Ole said in a presser than tbh you're a bit too naive I must say. He's one of the most political managers I've seen. Of course he will play down the importance of the game so less pressure on the players but in a CL group, after losing the first one and the second one, a home game is not a must win game? Well none gonna buy that, we haven't qualified yet.

I understand the general pessimistic here after losing to Villa and it's true this squad has a tendency to feck up when it counts, so far. That's why Ronaldo said if we want to win big things the team has to be more matured, and I think he's spot on. But this squad, despite missing Shaw and Maguire has definitely more than enough to win this game. I've no doubt about that. We'll win this.

Statically means we're way more likely to break the duck
That's a statistical fallacy right there!

If you flip a coin 16 times and it's tails each and every time, the probability of the 17th coin flip being tails again is still 50%.

Since they beat us in the final, they've won just one game. If we throw friendlies in the mix, that's a 13 game winless streak.

Good point and the original statistic does not take into account the level of opposition that they faced.

That's technically correct according to statistical probability but it has to end sometime and we do like breaking a streak.

    Is that true really?

Last season's Champion's League group? A spectacular collapse.

Last season when murmurs of winning the league began? Sheffield United.

Last season's FA Cup semi? Limped out.

Last season's League Cup semi? Limped out.

Last season's Europa League final? Dismal.

When the true pressure, trophy pressure, is on, we fold.

Well there is no trophy pressure at the moment. He's talking about the pressure on Ole obviously, which tends to precipitate a good run.

This is a bit of a myth.Under Ole we have lost several semi finals and the final of the Europa.
Plus other big games like home to Pool last year, away to Leipzig, home to PSG when Ole was the only one in the ground who thought it a good idea to leave Fred on the field after he had a yellow.

What you describe is called gamblers fallacy but it cannot be applied to this situation because the probabilities to determine the next outcome are now also influenced by the mental state of the players and team, which in turn is influenced by previous results.

For that singular flip, yes, but the probability that you'd flip tails 17 times in a row clearly isn't 50%!

Going by this logic then Ole should never lose another game in a season or it isn’t considered winning when the pressure is on?
Are all cup rounds devoid of pressure before a semi final?
We lost the same amount of league games as City to be fair to Ole.

Every single game that mattered, where there is potential to win something or to even progress to a final, he's bottled. It's why we're sat here, without a trophy during his entire tenure as our manager

But the 16 flips already happened. You can say it was statistically unlikely but still, they happened. At that point the odds of the next flip are still 50-50.

The leaked lineup was therefore wrong. Van De Beek on the bench.

Looks like a good team. We should beat this lot.
