Manchester United vs Olympique Lyonnais (Wed 19th July, 14:00 UK time)

I guess i must have missed the announcement of the window closing or are people just losing their shit because they are never happy unless they are moaning?
Yeah I'm losing my shit for saying there's not much between Mount and Hannibal  I've warmed to Mount but I don't think he should've been priority with bigger holes in the squad.

Amad, Mainoo and Hannibal can play the offensive 8/10 role, along with Eriksen. No one can play Casemiro's role though, that was evident before the window opened.
Good thing the window does not close tonight.

Getting into good positions a lot. Finishing still absolutely dreadful though, hard to be worse. Defence been pretty poor as well.

Not many can get more than average after this first half - the first 10 minutes were good but we were awful in front of goal, and afterwards it has been poor

Just tuned in ten minutes ago. Apart from Amad we look a bit shite, don't we? Can really see us struggle to finish top 4 this season.

You can see us struggling to finish top 4 because we're 0-0 against Lyon in a pre-season friendly with half the team that aren't even our first team? What?

Agree. 10 minutes without our best players in a friendly is enough to tell me that.

I kinda wish ETH had played Hugill up front instead of either Sancho or Antony. I get it that he doesn't view Hugill as a potential option but the team just can't function properly without someone in the box.

Sancho continuing to look like he doesn't really offer anything, I know it's not his preferred position but still..

First 10 mins were really good, rest not so much.

It's preseason. These friendlies take place to build fitness and experiment with different tactical schemes. People need to stop overreacting.

Id say apart from Antony and Sancho most players have looked decent. Martinez, Kovar and Amad have been the standouts in my opinion.
And even then, isn't this Antony's first game of pre-season? Wouldn't read much into Sancho's performances as a false 9 either.

A few good cameos. Sancho looking sharper, Amad, Mainoo did well. Martinez good. Still not convinced by Mount, he's looking like the player I saw at Chelsea and exactly what I thought we'd be getting. Technically he's not a top level player, and I'm not just basing this on today.

Kovar - Tidy with his feet, able to distribute with both.
AWB - Looks fit, a bit more attacking than usual
Varane - Cool as a cucumber
Martinez - One man press resisting machine
Fernandes - Lucky to not give a penalty away, but looks good
Hannibal - Brilliant but the fellas a mad man
Casemiro - Doing fine, composed.
Mainoo - plays like a 27 year old
Sancho - Scared
Mount - Tidy
Antony - Antony

True, the last two summer windows haven't filled me with confidence that's all. We spent 90 mil on Antony instead of a striker, and 75 mil on Sancho without getting a defensive midfielder. We still have to fork out a large sum for a striker.

Second pre season game for fitness with the majority of our first team missing, where the returning first team players are getting minutes.

Hannibal will leave us with 10 men very frequently the way he throws himself around.

The first signing is not necessarily a priority though, the timing of each deal can be dependent upon availability and potential competition. I would be disappointed in this window if it closes without signing an understudy for Case but at this point I am willing to wait it out.

AWB on the ball has improved so much, don't quite understand how he has got this much better with the ball at his feet.
Proper constant ball carrying trainings and one touch trainings is the key.

Varane, Sancho, Ronaldo, Eriksen, Casemiro, Martinez, Antony, Mount, Onana doesn't fill you with confidence?

Yeah, Casemiro has been class so far...:nono:

I too think that we might be in for a rough season (because the squad is still super thin and we need more than one reinforcement in attack), but these games mean jack shit.
going through those tour games with us with as few injuries as possible should be our goal.
the football is always going to be a bit crap, and results are unimportant.

It's funny how people judge performances from established first team players differently to young players.

I'd say there is very little between any of amad, Sancho and Antony. All 3 have done good things, had bad finishes, made some bad final 3rd decisions while also having some very good touches. If anything, I'd say Sancho was the best of the 3. There's just no way that Antony and Sancho were "bad" while Amad was "standout". They literally did the exact same half

Why do all these specialist free kick takers turn to shit when they join us ?

Casemiro?! Not even on the bench, pal.

Suppose at this stage it's just about the fitness. When everyone is available we won't be starting any pre season games with anyone wildly out of positionl (unless they have no future and are just filling a hole e.g. Telles at LCB last pre season).

Varane, Sancho, Ronaldo, Eriksen, Casemiro, Martinez, Antony, Mount, Onana doesn't fill you with confidence?
We should've bought a striker instead of Antony, and a defensive midfielder instead of Sancho. Both choices cost us dearly.
