LVG intends for Smalling and two others to play the full 90. Looks like Smalling will be the captain.

So who do we reckon are the 'two others'? Maybe Fletcher given that he didn't feature against Roma?
I'd guess that Reece James might be one, given that LVG has decided to put Luke Shaw on an individual training programme, due to the current state of his fitness.
Maybe, although I don't think it's anything serious enough to stop him playing. Look at pictures of him from this pre-season and he looks in great shape, so we must be talking a fine tuning to get him feeling properly fit, rather than an Anderson job, so to speak.
I have a hunch it might be Hernandez. LVG'll want to give him a full game to show what he can do.
He hinted that Smalling maybe captain though as he will play the full 90. If Fletch plays them full then he would be captain and he would be probably needed vs Real anyway.
Might be Jones and Michael Keane this time maybe ? With Jones playing a half in midfield.
Surely playing time would help him get back to fitness ?
It's only a pre season friendly.

The pattern so far has been to give the most playing time to players who began pre-season training earliest, suggesting to me that it takes a few weeks for players to be ready to play 90 mins. If Hernandez were to play 90 mins that would be a complete reverse as he is the latest to return (ignoring our Belgian players who are back in the UK and RVP who is still on holiday).

I'm no expert on such matters. If it was a minor issue then I would imagine that LVG would simply play Shaw until he was fit. Generally speaking, when players train away from the group the day before a match, they tend not to be involved (in the match).

Inter will finish next serie A in 5 or 6 position , but will play tonight with more first team players than Roma

Based on LVG saying that Smalling and two others would play the whole game, Young would play both wings, Zaha would play a bit as a striker, and talking about Hernandez being fit enough. I think he'll want to give Hernandez a full game at some point and he's not going to leave it until we're against Madrid, when he'll at least want to start with our strongest available side (which, in RVP's absence, means Welbeck.)Keane Smalling Blackett

Interestingly enough Young is becoming quite a useful player for LVG. He has done OK up front and as a right WB. Tonight he is getting a stint as a left WB as well... Is he a quality player who has been mismanaged the last couple years or is he just fighting for his job, but still shit?
His first season he was decent enough. His 2nd season he had a load of injuries but I remember a spell where he was doing really well in the big games for us. Last year he was muck but everybody was.
He is just a limited Footballer but I still think he has more basic qualities than Valencia and may even do a good job in a Wing back position who knows. I trust LVG knows.
Had a 3 hour nap this afternoon to stay up and watch this. So I sure hope it's tonight, and isn't a tumescent pre-season game.
