VG did not need 3-4 weeks to know we are short on defenders, if he has got that much Knowledge of the game, how did he not know the injury prone history of rafeal jones smalling Evans?

Does any manager need that much time to know? you cannot go into a new season with just 5 senior first choice defenders, 4 of them are injury prone that is a ticking time bomb. If this was a David moyes who needed 3-4 weeks to asses that yes we are short on quality in numbers in defence, and just outright quality in midfield, we all would be thinking, does he know what he is doing? Including me.

He seems to have thrown fellaini out the door, willing to let Bebe Ferdinand and Evra go, so for me he should have had the signings all wrapped up weeks ago, not seeing how the current lot are doing.

For me, we should not be approaching august and still with only 2 signings, we should have atleast 5 players brought in, when many consider now many have left the club the last few years

I agree, that's my point. Evra was his decision, not sure about Ferdinand though.

There was also some info about this list of players he wants. To be honest I think he wanted a few weeks with the squad to make decisions who to sell rather than who to buy. As I said, we lack in obvious areas.

How come all our rivals are securing their targets left and right while we're about to enter August and have only secured Herrera and Shaw? (Question not directed at you) Woodie needs to get to work fast.

Ah but the old excuse by allot of united fans, which is a false sense of security for them that we will sign players, it's only JULY, the season does not start until mid august.

Woodward is like a director who makes bad movies for a franchise, but he will learn from his last terrible film and make it better, when he should know what he is doing in the first place

We have 5 defenders to choose from, that is a complete farce has we are about to enter august, let us not forget the graveyard options we have in midfield, let's say Herrera gets injured, who is available? Fletcher Anderson Cleverley fellaini, let that sink in for us all
 
Squad is broken and unbalanced... that's not even voice of frustrated United fans. It's coming from the man in charge who got a chairman that sounds like an uber forum transfer muppet by saying we can splash cash like Rockefeller foundation without a one word of distaste from the Jewish owners.

What we have now in result is a statement overload from all important figures in the club. It's creating even more expectations to sign players of a substantial upgrade for the team.

Statement after statement and we're still in the phase of investigating the obvious shitness of some our current players. Is this really a rocket science that Anderson is not able to pass some fitness trainings without injury ? Even Wenger who is always low on cash is somehow able to upgrade his side and sell about ten players like he did last season.

Stop playing games with Juventus and send them an offer they won't refuse. Let Real Madrid know that we'll be back in CL business very soon. The right players are there and from Woodward's interview there's actually no obstacles in completing that goal. I don't mind waiting on Kevin Strootman's rehabilitation but there are more positions to fill with new energy.

The new system works great and if not mistakes of some weaker links in our team we would destroy Roma almost like we did with LA Galaxy. The tactical side looks excellent and Louie is absolutely killing it. We're one step from creating a new era but we seriously need to stop giving ammunition to all these fukin basement twitter agents and get the real business done. We're THAT close to returning to good old shape.
 
I can buy that we've only signed one attacking player - but with 2.5 weeks until the season kicks off we are madly lacking defensive players. We wont ruin our season by waiting until late august until we sign another midfielder or a winger - but starting the season without defensive cover is a big risk that I don't understand why LvG is prepared to take
 
LvG's latest interview makes it clear he wants a couple of players brought in at least. I'm thinking a CM and CB are the likely positions.

This! When LVG says something I'm inclined to believe him implicitly. He said he wanted to assess the squad over the few weeks of pre-season to see what he has playing with his system. Now he is saying that the squad is broken, un balanced and now he is mentioning signing players, so it will happen. I really think something will happen in the next few weeks. Maybe sooner but I'm thinking after he's given those he's not sure of a chance first. He obviously knows at this point who he wants and what is needed to improve.

I agree, he's a man that seems to know his mind and wont be dawdling about second guessing his calls on players. I hope he will want to get anyone he is bringing in done before the season opener, the sooner the better to get them acclimatized.

Absolutely I do think that now he's mentioning new players in interviews it means he's ready to get someone in. I think he slightly resents the length of the tour for that reason as well (for bedding new players in). Gonna be an interesting couple of weeks I think.

Oh far too quiet. I'm not sure when we are back because I suppose it depends on this champions cup tournament and whether we get through. I know we've got a home game vs Valencia on 12th August.

There's no doubt this tour is not to his liking and has been made more inconvenient for him by the WC eating into his chance to get started early. I really can't see us not bringing players in now after Woodward's comments and then LvG saying the squad is broken with no balance and he needs to improve the selection with transfers, you can't say that and then trot out the "I'm happy with the squad" line on September 1st.
 
While I'm sure Van Gaal had his ideas regarding some of the positions that need strengthening, he might not have been as sure regarding the type of player we'll need. Centerhalves have different attributes, not to mention midfield players. So it's quite possible he gave a list of possibilities to explore, but wanted a bit of time before deciding who exactly to go for. I can't believe we shut up shop after Shaw and Herrera, and yet for all the talk of Vidal or Hummels or Vermaelan it's quite unclear as to what sort of progress we've made, what kind of bids we made - and more to the point, it doesn't seem there have been bids. Which makes me think we're actually waiting, or at least were, for Van Gaal's final go ahead.

It is. It's either going to be very exciting couple of weeks, or we are going down to the wire and sign a couple of players on deadline day. I really hope we can get some business done ASAP in and out. We need the squad whoever in it to be working together now not after the season starts.

It is but LVG's attitude had changed from the last few weeks of assessing to now saying broken and unbalanced. The rhetoric has changed significantly. We are definitely in the market now I think. It's being done in secret now though and so no one knows who we are in for! It's horrible and frustrating but we will see what's what in the next few weeks. Ed Woodward has already said he has a limitless budget so it's in motion. We've had no stability unlike other clubs who have done their business early but seriously this season will be better. I'm friggin sure of it!

We will sign players between August 2nd and August 16th. So, between and tour and the first league game. I am certain.

Exactly LVG very quickly is establishing his self as a man very much of his word! I mean he is even having a huge input into the next tour so he is on the case. Honestly, I am behind him whatever he does. His main focus is the team and his philosophy and more importantly winning, drawing or coming 4th is not in his vocab. So signings will be crucial and he knows that you have to put the team first though and the type of player is important to fit in with his philosophy. But it will be done in secret and move very quickly I feel.

I think we may see them at the extra home friendly against Valencia! It would unveil them to the home fans before the season starts. Just a theory there though.

I'm not hugely bothered because I think there's a lot that we can get out of the current squad and maybe Van Gaal can pull a youngster out of the hat we already have. However, there are some things we cannot. A centerhalf is certainly needed and another midfielder would do nicely.
 
I know there is still a month left but I don't expect miracles - think we might sign one more player but won't be surprised at all to see us sign no one. It's extremely poor either way to find ourselves in this position, less than three weeks left until we start our season and we have three center halves, two full backs, one fit reliable midfielder that we have only just signed and virtually no wingers we could rely on which is disappointing even if our primary tactics will be 352.

We are in no shape to compete for the league which was supposed to be the goal and van Gaal will probably be equally sad to admit that. I still expect him to deliver the very best from the team but it won't be enough to see ourselves where we ought to be, at the top.

Vermaelen, Vlaar or Hummels... maybe someone out of the blue ?

No chance for me.

He's been true to his word and he's having a good look at everyone. Work will be going on behind the scenes with regards to players coming in and going out.

I think 2 or 3 will come in and 6 or 7 will go including fringe players. The four who've been named in the press; Fellaini, Nani, Kagawa and Anderson I reckon will move on along with Hernandez, Amos and Vermijl.
