Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Cannot believe the punt of negative posts on here! Bloke gets injured & he's a crock for life! I'd trust our new gaffer to have full information on the injury & recovery, but oh no so many not in the knows opinions mean
Does the fact that we are reportedly 'not interested in' the likes of Kroos and Fabregas indicate that we are confident of landing even better midfielders? Surely it does, otherwise we would at least be interested in these players.

If so, who do you think they might be ?

Kroos will leave on a free, so not available. Fabregas probably wants to return to London, so not available & fecked us around last summer, so we'd most likely not want another arse on with his agent.

I'd say Van Gaal has his targets to fit his system, which doesn't involve just signing the best available players, more the best fit into his system. I can see a mass muppet meltdown ahead, when we don't sign that elusive big name for each position! But i have faith in Van Gaal, a nutter who gets things done.

Not being interested in Fabregas is either because a) LvG is intent on playing a system. Some laughed at Chelsea selling Mata/Madrid selling Ozil but those managers obviously have an idea behind it or b) We're realistic about our chances of signing him - people have been very blunt about our chances in the past but now that we're sitting with no CL football and have far more competition than previously, some think we have a big enough chance to warrant chasing him - I disagree and would be worried if we didn't already have more realistic midfielders that we're working on regardless - we can't afford to be taking risks like last year.

I think it's worth noting that if we're interested in some Dutch internationals then there is no chance of interest being shown until after the world cup as it would be seen as unprofessional due to our manager spending a month with them.

I think you're probably spot on.

Shaw has probably been sorted and Southampton will want to spread departures out over the summer so they find it easier to bring in replacements.

Apart from that, what we'll find this summer is the signings of 3 or 4 potentially world class players as a look for the future. Heard a plausible rumour a few weeks ago that 60/70 million is being kept aside should a superstar come available.

Unless they have said no to us and we are trying to save face....

I can see Woodward.... We didn't even wanna sign you anyway

Who knows .... Hoping Van Gaal has a few players lined up who are perhaps under the radar

Sadly I honestly dont think we are, weve just decided to stop wasting time on midfielders that want to mess about, sort of like our old policy regarding players like this, which is worrying.

We wont get Vidal over Madrid, we cant, their pull is huge and they can easily match our bids and pay just as much. Kroos & Fabregas would have been an elite level partnership but they wont wait around forever and I think weve been burnt by Fabregas and will dither too much and hell eventually go to Chelsea if he hasnt already. Kroos has already got tired of our dithering and decided to stay his last season and I reckon Bayern got tired of our dithering also. So thats off the cards. We will be the only club realistically in for Strootman because of the LVG link and his terrible injury which could seriously effect his career.

Theres loose rumours surrounding Bastian and Koke, my opinion is Koke will go to Barca with Xavi saying he is a natural successor and they will also match any bid we place for him, not to mention they will have a transfer ban coming in soon so they will stockpile players. Bastian is possible, probably the only really possible world class midfielder who is only rumoured to be available and at 10m would be a steal, but I imagine him coming out with "I plan to end my career at Bayern" and head into a coaching role.

Even the second tier players are ruling themselves out with Rakitic saying he wants to stay at Sevilla and Kavacic seemingly uninterested in a move.

I honestly dont know, I could only see us going for these unproven midfielders in the Holland set up, and well severely struggle if we do.

Well, that's cheered me up then! A crocked Strootman it is then - might as well wait till the January window in that case.

Would love to see us go all out for Barkley, he would be perfect - I can see plenty sniffing round him after the WC and I would be gutted if Woodward hasn't got his nose planted up Kenwrights backside.

If reports were correct that we want to 'do our business' before the World Cup we are in for one hell of a week! :-)

I think Woodward dropped another bollock there. He was leaking stuff to the media regarding summer transfers as late as April, which included the Daniel Taylor "2 deals agreed" article, yet supposedly they had been planning on sacking Moyes as early as February. He knows full well that new managers have different transfer targets, and he knew we might have a situation similar to last year, so leaking stuff to the press regarding transfers was somewhat premature.

It's still way too early to start panicking and I do still think we will get some good players in, but I could see why some people are starting to worry.

Or alternatively LVG might think that we don't need someone like Fabregas right now - essentially an attacking midfielder (even if he does play deeper than ours), which we already have many of. I get worried when names we go for are big names in positions we're already strong in. I'd prefer we be after some incredible wingers, fullbacks, perhaps a center back and definitely, definitely a pair of strong, formiddable central midfielders. I know Fabregas isn't sitting in exactly the same position as Rooney, Mata, Kagawa and Januzaj but he's not that far off, is he? The question I would be asking if I were LVG is "What do we need most?"

I don't think we will end up signing many players even after the world cup. Maybe 2-3 and none of them being outlandish additions to our squad.

The huge turnover of players we were expecting certainly won't happen. Maybe it would have with Moyes still in charge, who knows.

Truth is we don't actually need 4 or 5 superstars, much as we want them. All we need is a few smart buys in the right positions and we'll be good enough to get a CL place again. Then we can improve further next year and aim for the title.

The massive spend on ready made superstars is only necessary if we demand an instant return to being serious title contenders. If we accept that it'll take a couple of season to get to that point though then we should be able to strengthen enough this summer to make a big step in that direction.

So as much as I like the (unlikely) idea of us securing mega signings like Reus, Hummels, Vidal or whoever, the really important thing for me is that we have good quality back up targets so we don't end up overpaying for dross on the last day of the season.

Just reading on twitter that Nigel de Jong is getting restless at Milan and wants assurances about the club's future direction.

I bet he's linked to Utd in the next few days.

Won't happen but I'd probably take him tbh, could do with a cnut in midfield like him.

I think this might be another underwhelming summer for the club. I'm just glad we have the World cup to distract us from the inevitable disappointment.

We might sign Shaw before the World Cup, otherwise I think that we will become really active in the transfer window when van Gaal officially starts his job here. I wouldn't worry too much about it until then.

If this summer turns out to be a repeat of last year, Woodward must go. No question about it. With Rio, Vidic and Giggs gone, hopefully along with the deadweight, the squad needs an overhaul more than ever. Everybody can see that. Now it's really time for Woodward to step up.

Has this been posted yet? Schmeichel saying he knows we are in talks with all our targets and they want to join us.

It's all well and good people like Schmeichel & Woodward and whoever else saying that players still want to join us regardless of no CL or whatever but we might wanna fecking get on with signing em if that's the case. Would imagine Woodward will be on thin ice if things don't go to plan this summer.

We aren't going to sign anyone before the World Cup, are we?
Doubt it. Van Gaal definitely told Manchester United to do their business quietly, it's evident in the paper's lack of knowledge as they simply link us to every player possible.

Ah the infamous list, I can remember when Noel Gallagher claimed to have been given something similar from the City chairman and was blown away - they signed Rodwell and Richard Wright...

Rooney was meant to be the top name wasn't he? Still remember the shock of that first wanting to leave story. Last summer it was all a lot less of a worry

Sneijder's terrible form stretches back even further than Torres'. He's been awful for 4 years.

He was played out of position most of his time at Inter, and he was still effective when he got a decent run in the team. He's a centre midfielder, and at Inter he had to play in a more advanced role. He also had to adapt to being the main playmaker, when he was used to being Then once he returned from a heavy injury Ranieri had sold Motta, which completely screwed things up, and led to Wes having to play as an inverted winger of all things. And let's not forget his contract debacle when he was sidelined for refusing to sign a new contract, after yet another injury.

I'm not saying that Sneidjer isn't partly to blame, but there's a big difference between Sneidjer's poor performances over the last few years, when he actually played, and Torres being given every opportunity under the sun to improve and screwing it up time and time again.

Getting shit done before a World Cup is always difficult. It was a bit of bluff and bluster to pretend we could. If we've still signed nobody by August 11th, panic

Tell you what if there's one good job Woody is doing he is keeping things 100% schtum. The fans, papers and most probably the players haven't got a foggiest on who is coming in and we probably still won't know till mid July. Going to be a long month
