Manchester United Summer Transfer Window 2015: What do we still need?

Like I say we need A few defenders, a new striker and a top class winger to balance out the rest of the team. Our strikers are old now, and they don't have that dynamic movement to pull teams around, We saw against Spurs that mata rooney RVP and falcao are quiet easy to play against because they don't have that movement and pace to trouble defences, worst mistake this club could do is give Falcao a permanent deal.

So I say a new RB CB CM Winger and striker is what is needed

I do agree with your assessment of our strikers and their age. But you wanna let go all 4? Certainly as captain and in form Roo must stay?

I would sell mata and RVP, and let falcao go pending if we can buy the right players, has for rooney he offers us more what we need than the other 3. All 4 are just about good enough to get us a top 4, but the age of our strikers must come into consideration that they are ageing and we need fresh new ones

Exactly my thoughts, I'll be surprised if we get any of them in January. Summer will be when it happens I think.

Striker - definitely don't sign Falcao would be such a waste, bring in lacazette also bring Hernandez back.
Winger - depay and if there is a god up there then sign bale too.
CM - strootman or Vidal
RB - Clyne or Coleman
CB - hummels, schaar or godin.

If we want to mount a title challenge we need another huge window. 5 or 6 players again.

I still laughed at the topic do we have the best strike force, yes it's good to get us a top 4, but it's a strike force that is ageing have very little movement and acceleration to beat a man. And at the moment we have no counter attacking ability, now a new striker and winger will change all that and that alone many fans will see a big difference

We're not that far but in the same time not too close with almost total lack of experience in defense. Jonny Evans is our most experienced defender, the one who younger players can ask for proper advice... Let that sink in for a second.

Matter of two transfer windows and we'll be flying with very experienced manager and trusted staff.

I don't get how everybody is talking about Hummels like it's 2012. Don't get me wrong, I really like this guy, he was one of the best defenders around and he still is one of the smartest guys in football, but since his injury in 2013/14 he is not the defender he once was. He is still able to play a few worldclass matches, but generally he is slowier than before and he became injury-prone. Since the season 2014/15 started he missed 12 matches! Why should we sign Hummels in the year 2014? We should have signed him years before. Now we would be stupid to pay the sum Dortmund is dreaming about.

What do we need? We need a successor to Carrick.

A top quality CB and RB will see us through this season just fine. I'm sure we can secure 3rd with the side we have and the position we are currently in, we may even catch a 2nd place but I still thing Chelsea are too good for us this season - too good for anyone it seems.

A new attack. I can't see us winning the title, or competing seriously in the CL, with the current set of forwards, due in the main to their age and the almost inevitable decline in performance. Still prepared to wait and see regarding Falcao but the signs aren't promising right now. As things stand, I'd be prepared to let go of RVP, Falcao, Mata and Rooney, dependent on getting a reasonable offer. It is just possible that Falcao can be a class player for us for say a couple of years and then Wilson takes over but that's looking extremely optimistic at the moment. Mata is too slow for my liking though I'd replace him with Januzaj or Nani rather than bringing in someone. I'd wait until the summer before deciding.

Age? Rooney is 29, Falcao is 28, and VP is 31. Mata can't be more than 26.

I don't think it's time to get a stack of zimmer frames in just yet!

Thank Christ you are not our manager! You would sell RVP Rooney Falcao and Mata and replace them with who? The only one yet to prove himself on that list is Falcao and its still early days for him. I would not be looking to move any on but looking at strengthing in other areas as our attack is one of the best in Europe. If and it's a big if we got Bale then one could make way perhaps Falcao. But until that its other areas that take priority and rightly so IMO.

Mata is slow, and we do not really need mata if we playing 2 strikers, if I was VG replace mata with a wideman who can run defenders ragged. Falcao would be a huge mistake signing him permanently, with his injury record still not improving. United seriously need to look at the striker situation in the summer, I would not want united going into next season with Rooney and RVP leading the attack again considering the ages of both of them, we need a striker that will give the attack that injection of pace to hurt defenses in the way sturridge has done for liverpool

I just think there is a lack of pace and energy about united with mata rooney RVP and falcao all playing, united at their best have always been about overwhelming teams with tempo and speed, these 4 are way too slow and it shows in our play at times

Think devil has nailed it in this post, I've added the top names that have been banded about in the press. Getting these 4 would take massive investment and a few players would need sold to balance the books regardless in the summer plus some deadwood will be chopped (Anderson, Cleverley for sure) and Fletcher Unfortunately due to his illness sapping his strength. So we probably will end up with 1 or 2 max and a couple of cheaper younger players.

If we invest the same kind of money this coming summer as we did last then the names you listed are viable. Coleman and Strootman should cost around the same as Shaw and Herrera, given the situation in Russia Garay shouldn't cost any more than Rojo, which leaves the Di Maria and Blind combined outlay to invest in Bale. Of course Schar and Reus would work out a lot cheaper than Bale and Garay.

What we still need:

1) First choice right back. Rafael is not the answer long term. Does not matter how good he is, he spends more time on the treatment table than on the pitch. Valencia is not the answer either, not if we have to play 5 at the back because we don't have a "fit" natural right back.

2) A competent left back as cover for Shaw. As well as Young has been playing, he cannot play as a left back once we revert back to 4 at the back.

3) A mobile defensive midfielder. Love what Blind has done so far, but saw too many midfielder run past him because he is slow.

4) A central defender who can stay on the pitch for more than 3- 4 games without getting injured.

Haha get out of my mind!! Everything you say are my thoughts exactly. It annoys me a little too when media and fans say our frontline is world class when in reality it's not, just look at the Spurs game the amount of chances they both missed. Like you say We need to bring in fast attackers and wingers at the moment we are so predictable

Hahahahaha, don't get me wrong, it can be in its own right to a certain degree, but mata rooney RVP and falcao are car parts of extra door and wheel, and an engine that's not the most dynamic. I would not have all 4 together, because we don't really need all 4. Out of all 4, rooney is only worth keeping pending we can get that Top class striker and winger to replace mata and RVP, and use the falcao cash to rebuild our defence and midfield. We could keep RVP, but we still need the striker and winger who will inject a dynamic pace to really hurt teams

On point 2 we have Blind Rojo Blackett and now Young (if going wb) as cover. We certainly don't need another left back IMO.

Do these even exist?

Young will not cut it as a defender in a traditional back 4. I simply hate 5 at the back and don't want an excuse for LvG to play that formation. Blind and Rojo can do a job there, but don't believe Blackett is going to be played at left back any time soon, otherwise he would be playing that position right now.

As things stand, 4 players.

A right-back who can stay fit, a centre-back who can head the ball and play out from the back, a box-box midfielder with the right mix of energy, physicality and technical ability, and a versatile winger/wide forward type with bags of pace and dribbling ability. Not all needed in January obviously, and should coincide with a substantial clearing of dead wood.

Right back cover, 2 centre backs, a cm and a winger. Maybe kill 2 birds with 1 stone and go for Cuadrado? Or Depay and someone like Clyne?

Reckon we're getting Strootman and a centre back in the summer. Who though is anyones guess.
This.

I don't think we'll sign anyone in January, but this summer coming up needs to be similar to last summer. LvG is doing well with the resources he has but our squad is still so unbalanced. I think we'll get Strootman as long as he's recovered well from his injury. I hope we get Clyne and I think Depay will happen. I don't think anyone can guess the centre half we'll end up with. I actually think we need two but we'll probably just get one. My brain still automatically thinks Hummels, which I suppose would be pretty realistic next summer if we get top 4 since Dortmund are all over the place.

Over the next 2 transfer windows I would like to see the following players bought it..

Reus
Godin
Strootman
Clyne/Coleman
Coentrao

I guess more full backs would be needed to avoid playing the 5 at the back formation.

Shaw is now fit and he is not getting in for Young ghagua so I doubt Blackett would stand much chance either right now with the form of Young.

Perfect world victor valdes, back up right back, 2 top CB and 3 v.good wingers, squad for next season

Ddg/ Valdes
Rafa/ Alves
Hummels/ smalling
Godin/ Jones
Shaw/ Rojo
Blind/ carrick
Rooney/ Herrera
Di Maria/ Mata
Cuadrado/ Januzaj
Rues/ Depay
Rvp / Wilson

We need someone with speed who will actually try to best defenders rather than pass it backwards when they get too close.

Someone like Barkley or Shaqiri who won't necessarily demand to be in the first 11 would do.

It just feels like last season when we clearly needed someone like Cabaye and we let it slipp, was all down hill from there

The people mentioning Hummels, I don't actually think it would be a very worthwhile transfer. Now don't get me wrong he is excellent on his day but the negatives out way the positives with him. He is injured quite a bit already (you would guess this would elevate playing in the Premier League), not the quickest and I couldn't imagine he would come to a new country and club and automatically Marshall the defence, in fact who knows if his English speaking skills are even any good. We do definitely need a cb but we need one who is relatively injury free or we are just repeating the same scenario.

We need urgently some fullbacks in order to get rid definitely of the 3-5-2, we need a strong box-to-box in order to use Herrera more freely and we need a winger to play on Di Maria opposite side.

Fullback: Coleman or Clyne or Corchia or Darmian
B2B: Strootman or Kramer or ...
Winger: Shaqiri or Depay or Nani or Yarmolenko or ...

No CB, because it's a position where we exclusively need top quality, so if there isn't value on the market we shouldn't buy at all, and we have enough CBs for a back four in we sign a fullback.

Hehehe. You dont like 352?
Well, get used to it. This is now our formation of choice and will be are default formation for the next few years.
We are unbeaten for 10 games in a row and I dont see LvG making any changes...especially while our defence consists of players made of glass.

It's really not. It's the formation we use when we have no fullbacks fit to actually play there.

People keep going on about the World Cup. He changed formation because Strootman was out and he didn't trust his defenders, which might be why he didn't buy any of them. I am sure he would rather be more attractive. If he could get his FB's back fully fit he will change the formation. He has always said the fans should be entertained and we aren't at the moment. I am sure he would like a better RB as not sure he trusts Rafael.

I might be wrong but when asked why he changed to the 3-5-2 early in our unbeaten streak, he said that he had to, because of a lack of fullbacks, by that logic, he is not a fan of the system.

Edit: i don't have a particular problem with the 3-5-2, it's just that it's a very specialized system, almost all the players needs to be specialist except the middle CB. And we don't have the specialist needed, if we want to stick with it, we will need to spend a lot on the transfer market.
