Manchester United Summer Transfer Window 2015: What do we still need?

@Cina

Continuing from the other thread.
Past injuries is not always indicative of the future. Again, if LVG is convinced (like many of the fans are) that our current defenders cannot stay fit, I fully expect him to get rid of them and replace them. It is not sensible to simply add more and more players to the squad however.

I didn't say it was though. I said we need a top class CB, i.e. I don't think any of the current crop fit that bill. We're Man Utd, we should expect better. If getting that CB in means selling one of the current four, so be it.

We always carried more than 3 CB's under Fergie, at least 4 senior options, just because other teams don't I see no reason for us to follow their lead.

Then you are basically agreeing with the point that I made all along which was that if we had players leaving in that department, they would likely need replacing.

Still for me, the priorities are undoubtedly RB and Winger - these are two positions where we are obviously short of quality, regardless of fitness and any other potential issues. Clyne or Coleman, and Bale or Sterling would be my choices (though Depay seems the likely option at this stage).
After that, sure, we can look at strengthening or adding depth in other positions.

What the hell are you on about? I'm not agreeing with you, I'm saying we have to bring a top CB in regardless of whatever else we do. Selling one of the current ones after we do that is simply a logical step to take.

Ok, well then we appear to have reached an impassé.

I think it's pretty clear we need at least 2 central midfielders, on top of the winger(s), right back, centre half and probable striker. We're only a Carrick injury away from being in serious trouble.

I'd take De Jong on a free as long as we brought in another central midfielder. The whole team fluidity goes to pieces by dropping Herrera deeper and Rooney into midfield. Even having a player like De Jong deep would free up Herrera to play further forwards and keep Rooney out of central midfield.

Looking at tonight's transfer rumours for United we are seemingly whittled down to a few options in each of the rumored roles we want filling, at least as far as what the journos have gotten wind of.

CB - Hummels or De Vrij
RB - The Clyne, the whole Clyne and nothing but the Clyne
CM - Gundogan and Strootman
Wide attackers - Bale and Depay
Striker - Ings

In my own little Muppet world it would go like this

Buy.....

Leno 20 mill (if Dave leaves)
Hummels 30 mill
Clyne 15-20 mill
Ricardo Rodriguez 20-25 mill
Gundogan 20 mill
Depay 15 mill,
Benteke 20 mill
bale 60-70 mill

Total = around 160-170 million

Bring back nani and chicharito

Sell.....

De gea 30-45 million
RVP 10-15 mill
Di Maria 40-50 million (providing PSG are playing silly beggars)
Evans 5-10 mill
Rafa 10 mill
Valencia 5-10 mill
send falcao back to Monaco.

Total incoming cash from sales = roughly £90-110 million
Total outgoing cash from players bought = roughly £ 160-170 million

The good thing with shifting Di Maria, RVP and Falcaos is their wages alone could pay the wages for at least 5 of the players on my "buy" list. Only bale and hummels would probably want more.

Loan....

Paddy and januzaj.

So basically:

Clyne
Hummels
Gundgaon
Depay

and we're pretty much sorted?

Hasn't he been average enough in Italy?

You give me Depay, Herrera and Juan's perchant for goals and I think we have just enough up front with RvP and Wayne rotating.
I worry that Rvp will be injured again, Wayne has his usual 6/7 games where he can't score and Wilson just isn't ready. That might be why he was supposedly looking elsewhere for a striker. There are strikers out there, but if they fit this team is a different matter.

We all have different views on what should be done in the summer and there is leeway for a lot of the views, but any line-up that doesn't include Rooney as a weekly main fixture has absolute zero chance of happening. So the best we can hope for is he is allowed to concentrate of being a striker and not used in midfield.

In:

RB: Darmian
CB: Hummels
CDM: Xhaka
CM: Gundogan
RW: Depay
LW: Bale

I think well get clyne over darmian (though i prefer coleman), not sure about xhaka (I was hoping for Schneiderlin) but either would be a fabulous buy.
Bale is a real longshot but worth be worth it IMO.

Edit: I think hummels, clyne and depay are already secured.

DDG
Clyne Hummels Rojo Shaw
Carrick Herrera/Gundogan
Depay ADM Bale
Rooney
It isn't going to happen (it'd take about £200 million) but I'll fall in love with Ed Woodward if it does.

I agree.......those three are likely imo but we need a CDM (Carricks replacement) and a CM as well.

What the chances of us signing if we fail to secure champion league? Will Woodward still willing to splash the cash?

Prices are a bit off (De Gea will not go for more than 20 mil pounds and I rather doubt he'll go for that) but why not.

I feel that is very close to how our team will line up next season...not sure about bale though.
We already have Hummels, Clyne and Depay in the bag.

Veratti would be my #1 choice for CM but PSG would only sell him for at least £45m (or some sort of ADM swap).

You all seem to be alright with playing 12 men.
