I am surprised many people have not heard of him. Been my 'get him for cheap and watch him grow' signing in FIFA 14 and FIFA 15.

Give him time (which media and some silly fans won't just because of the price tag) and have patience. He and Depay will be a coup at the price we bought them
I knew him from FIFA 13, 14 and FM 14, 15, but I couldn't say so much in real life, as a lot of those guys don't end up being much, but Martial seems the real deal.

Anderson was actually very good. The injury before he transferred feck and a person he was very lazy to work on himself.
He had a boatload of talent to be fair.

Also, always had that one game a season where he'd turn a team upside down, and you'd think "finally, Anderson is getting there", and them he'd be rubbish next week.

As I knew him from games I used to notice him when I used to see highlights form the French league. In India we get highlights and LIVE games of all French league and that is how I used to know he even exists. What I did hear about him from French commentators is that he is a raw and good talent and has what it takes to make it large. <Fingers crossed>

Some people think he won't even play this season? :wenger:

Now that's look like we've got the real deal here. Does fill me with much confidence after watching this.

Years ago, we would have left him in Monaco and continue to monitor his growth. These days, the competition for players is steep especially forward players. It's better to catch them young and try your luck. Jonathan Northcroft said something I agree with, fees tend to bother clubs with budget and manchester united doesn't seem to be on one.

I pray to heavens he succeed and if he doesn't, oh well. But that won't stop us from taking our chances with young players. And I have faith in the manager that won the champion league with 16 and 18 years old.

If you google Martial's transfer news, you would have seen Chelsea linked to him for about 39-40mil just couple of weeks ago. Whether the rumours are true or not, you won't see any of the rhetoric on "gamble" or "panic buy" or "ridiculous fee".

In the end, 36mil is a lot of money. But he's being called up to the national team at the age of 19, at a time when France has been quietly grooming a new generation of top players all still in their early to mid-20s. It says a lot about his potential.

So Depay and Martial will be our starting attackers. Lots of potential, but hey, if Shaw can perform the way he is at the moment, so can these boys!

Excited to see what happens. Good thing is that I have no clue about Martial, so however LVG plays him will be fine!

Yep. Ridiculous how many are writing him off because they've never seen him really. He is basically Monaco's best player, and was their biggest threat against Valencia by far. Was brilliant in both games, and Valencia is better then anyone but the top 4 of the prem. He's definitely ready to be starting for us.

Surprised how many on here are so unfamiliar with him. I'm far from a talent scout nor do I frequently watch Ligue 1, but he was brilliant against Arsenal last year in the CL and, although Monaco went out, was equally good or better in recent CL qualifying. Go back through the thread and you'll see numerous people raving about his ability and throwing in the proverbial "sign him up" quotes.

As far as the fee is concerned, only time will tell, but Martial really seems to have great potential. Whether he is what we needed this window is another argument for another thread. I have faith he'll be a success here.

Can't believe some are unhappy we now have a genuine attacking player who can beat a man & has superb acceleration. Yes he's a work in progress, but starting or from the bench he's going to be very very useful to U tied this season.

Hope the partnership and understanding between Depay and Shaw on the left get's translated to Martial and Darmian on the right. That will surely be exciting. That is the pace injection we really wanted.

If you look at some of the Ligue 1 players who have recently come to the PL (for instance Ayem, Amavi, Thauvin, Payet and even Gomis last season), they seem to have adapted well. Hopefully this will give motivation and confidence to Martial that he can do it too and rather quickly.

He looks like he plays in Memphis's position.
Yeah this is the only thing bugging me. He starts in the centre but drifts towards the left. Don't know how this will work out. Hopefully he just plays at #9 instead of replacing Mata at RW or something. Huge difference between a right footed player attacking on the left side and a right footed player attacking on the right side.

But you said the comparisons were far fetched. Maybe they will be, but it's impossuble to know right now. A lot of people in France are saying he's actually more advanced than Henry at the same age. Again, no guarentee obviously about how he will turn out but there's no reason for people to be so pessimistic for the sake of it (not saying yourself)

Fair point and clearly time will tell. I hardly did him a disservice by comparing his qualities with Hazard or Lucas Moura though. If it was a 25m signing I'd probably be ecstatic but when we could end up paying £50m I'm saying I'd rather have a potential Messi or Ronaldo at 19!

The most shocking thing for me is that I thought his name would be pronounced Marshall. But apparently it's mart-ial. Wow

Looks immense, confident, grafts, two feet, not afraid to take people on or track back. Taller and bigger built than i thought aswell. I think he will adapt a lot quicker than we expect.

Who reckons LVG will be waiting for the inevitable Rooney injury before giving this lad a go.

Help me out here. I am excited and intrigued by this signing.

In my mind we let Januzaj go on loan and got Martial so there is some thing the management saw.

Can the posters here explain compare and contrast the two?

Amazing indictment of these crappy behind-the-goal refs. I have no idea what possible excuse he could say for not giving that, he was half a metre from it staring at Martial being chopped down. What a joke.

Weren't they basically UEFA's excuse for refusing goal-line technology? Now that it's here, maybe the extra refs can be dispensed with.

Januzaj is more of a playmaker, while Martial seems to be more of a striker/wing-forward. He looks very direct and a strong runner.

Manchester United’s Anthony Martial – The Profile

Anthony Martial has just joined Manchester United on a four-year contract with the option of a fifth year. The deal that has taken the Frenchman from Monaco to Manchester is reported to be worth £36.3m plus add-ons. Here, Florian Fieschi – a French journalist who writes for Le Parisien and is very close to AS Monaco – writers a fact profile on the highly-rated youngster ready to take centre stage.

Anthony Martial is a huge potential player for French football. He is very quick and ever so powerful. He is a striker but he can also play as a winger but he much prefers to be played centrally, through the middle, as a real number 9. He has the skills to succeed in the Premier League and to become one of the best. Last season, we saw glimpses of what is to come. In the Champions League, against Juventus, Martial was a real threat and was spectacular vs Georgio Chiellini. What the former Monaco striker needs to improve on is his ability to score regularly and gain some form of consistency over the whole season.

In France, he has been compared to Thierry Henry before he joined Arsenal – he’s a top, top prospect. Under the Monaco manager, Leonardo Jardim, Martial has improved a lot tactically and has understood the game better.

He is very quiet in the dressing room and possibly even too shy, but then again, he’s only 19-years-old, he must become someone who is mentally tough, he still has a lot to prove. Martial is a honest and very nice man, he is also very modest – a father of his young baby, the Frenchman is a family man and doesn’t take anything for granted. His brother, aged 24, is also a professional football player and plays for Stade Brest in Ligue 2.

I think that Martial needs one season to settle in order to become one of the best strikers in the Premier League, because ultimately, he has everything

Article by respected journalist Floran fieschi from le parisien who follows Monaco and OM very closely and has seen a lot of martial. Looks like he is very highly rated and there is optimism that he can become the best striker in the premier league, Which if he does will be a great achievement. I think this is a highly educated buy from united, yes it may go bad but its a punt i would like united to take most of the time. This is similar to Juve signing dybala, morata or madrid signing isco or atletico buying aguero for 23 million when he was 17 . Hopefully he becomes the best.

To be honest, if we hadn't him on deadline day the signing would have been treated with far less skepticism especially given how he deadline day signings worked out last season. If he's really as good as people say then it makes sense to pay that bit more and get him rather than miss out ala Hazard.

If he starts, who gives way?
It will probably be Mata, unfortunately. I'm sure if the supporters could pick the team, Rooney would give way.

Poor Herrera will probably have had enough by next summer.

Yes, it would be good if were Rooney. It would be good if Mata started in the no 10 role and alternated with Hererra.

I doubt either will happen.
