Well the add ons for the total transfer fee are rumoured to be hard to achieve I.e major success for the club based so hopefully the wages are the same.
Even without the add ons those wages are fecking insane.
250k a week for a player in Mount’s form and also his position is fecking self sabotage.

Somebody said 80k, and they offered him 200k which is what he rejected. If that's true then I imagine that is the minimum we offered too.
I think people who thought we'd be signing him on £100k a week are kidding themselves a bit though.
That's not going to change with new owners mate. Until we're in a position to guarantee trophies again we're going to have to overpay anyone to a certain extent.

He's really not though. They all work together on transfers. As for de Jong, yeah United probably stuck around for too long on that one but did it really hurt us in the end? We had a good plan B option lined up in Casemiro which once we decided to pivot to got done very quickly. The overpay for Antony I don't think was the club's fault. The Glazers only decided to loosen the purse strings after the Brentford disaster. I think Murtough/ten Hag would've liked to have had the Antony deal done earlier in the window but due to uncertainty of the amount available and prioritizing other positions, we decided to wait and hope Ajax lower the price.
A lot of our problems in the market come down to how the Glazers operate and I fail to see how another director would've changed some of these issues the club has faced in recent years. As I said a few pages back, I still don't know how good Murtough is at his job as I don't believe he's really had a good crack at it. He seems to be held back a lot by the owners.
It will be obvious the wages are huge that is why he is coming to us…as with many players.

- See second tweet. Surely Murtough would tell ETH before having it announced. It's not a huge deal but it's a minor detail that looks bad. We have very little to work with concerning John Murtough's performance in his role as there's so many factors that affect it (especially the Glazers). But there's lots of little hints that the guy, at times at least, lacks some basic communication skills. I'm all for the new owners giving existing staff a chance but I'm not convinced Murtough will prove he's anywhere near 'best in class'.

In that case 175-200k should be fine as an absolute max. Anymore than that and it’s an awful deal imo coupled with the fee.
A player of Mount’s level should not be on elite wages. Let him prove it first, then offer it when earned.

For people playing at home, Mount is probably going to be the successor to Bruno in 3 or 4 years time, or at least have that opportunity in a much different stable team with or without EtH.

A club with a broken wage structure very rarely excels. Utd has a very broken wage structure and it needs to be fixed for the club to turn itself around.

Well yes, but people are also thinking of how hard it is for us to move failed signings on because of the well above market rate wages United tend to pay.
I’m pretty confident Mount will do well for us, but in the event that he does flop, those huge wages (if true) will make it hard to get rid of him.
If we didn't overspend last summer we could probably put in a big enough bid to tempt Levy this summer. Also look at what happened in January because of how the summer window unfolded. In the end we only had enough for weghorst. It's not my money but I do care about how it affects the clubs future dealings.
