Technology in football shirts, worse it's feckin' getting.

Has it been proven yet that all these extra holes in parts of the jersey, the tightness of it, the material and whatever else they do to them these days makes a lad a better footballer?

Next they'll be saying a certain colour makes them perform better. It's all a money racket to me.

To be fair, Adidas Climachill has been my preferred choice of running shirt for the past couple of years.

Personal choice will always come first but there is no denying the racket in sports gear. The cost for plastic and synthetic fibres is falling but the price of sports gear increasing. Add the name of a prominent player or club and price becomes way over the top.

They look the job alright, probably make you look a bit more professional with the nice shiny adidas label but when it's all boiled down and this is from my own and others I'd know experience, performance wise there'd be no difference in that 30 quid Climachill top than that of a normal 2/3 euro top on a penny's or Primark shelf this morning.

I find it's the same with football boots put a pair of Puma ordinary 30 quid boots on a lad one day and then put on a two hundred quid pair of fancy pink Nike boots on him the next day and there'll probably be no difference in his performances. He might increase his chances of picking up an injury in the pink Nike's alright as I do often think a lad would be better off just playing in his socks when it comes to the protection they or them highly expensive boots offer.

Last week I found my Puma and Addidas boots from the 80s still in good condition thanks to liberal coats of Dubbin. They cost about £15 a pair, all black with faded white stripes. Three pairs for astro turf, swampy pitch, and a hard surface recently watered. I guess the lads today want pink or yellow luminous boots like Ronnie - as if he hasn't already enough money from kids for a lifetime.

Fancy boots obviously aren't going to make a person a better player, but they're intended to improve comfort and feel and be lighter etc, little things that when playing at the top level might make a slight difference to a players stamina over 90 minutes.

It's mostly marketing when it comes to selling to Joe Park-Player but these things will make subtle differences to the pro players.

Even more so with shirts, which can help with keeping them cool etc. Can you imagine them playing in heavy cotton polo shirts?

Nike and Adidas et al spend millions upon millions on R&D, they don't do it for shits and giggles.

If they want to feel more cooler well then ditch the jerseys that are practically glued or welded onto them and wear jerseys that at the very least allow a bit of air to circulate around the body when playing. Wear a slightly bigger jersey with the same material, no need for a cotton polo neck.

The tighter brands like adidas and nike make the jerseys nowadays though the more need for all this so called technology or holes to allow the air flow around. They can justify ripping off the likes of yourself and myself. The latest technology, right!

They also look worse on people with beer bellies.

They don't rip me off because I don't buy them.

As for tight shirts meaning warmer players, that's just not true. I had an under-armour skin tight undershirt I used to wear to the gym and it kept me cooler than anything else I've ever worn.

I have always been more comfortable in tight sport clothes, so if I can I will try to have a cool and tight shirt.

This. It's not going to make a difference for a random lad (apart from feeling more comfortable which is enough in my opinion) but at the very top level where the margins are so fine? Sure.

Surely the kit should be based on having the best technology for the players, rather than the cost for someone to wear while watching a match?

Not really no, the shirts the players wear are made of different materials and have different features anyway, so im sure if the big companies wanted to they could sell the replicas that average joe buys in the shop much cheaper (not that they will any time soon) and still incorporate the technology into the kits the players wear.

Nothing different to what has been said so far on here really. The home shirt will be unfussy, commercial and not too dissimilar to the 1982-84 one. The shorts for all kits will be 'interesting' - Adidas will be doing some 'fun' things with them this year.

Perfect!

Do you know if they will have the "originals" logo or the new 3 stripes one?

Well, I haven't been told anything, but given the fact they use nothing but the 'new' (well over 20 years old now) logo on any of their clubs' kits, I can't see them doing differently for us.

I've been told we'll never see the old trefoil logo on playing kits. The Portland Timbers wanted it on a 'throwback' third kit they had a couple of seasons ago (the US adidas HQ is in Portland) but they were given the knock back from Germany.
We'll see it on retro gear but not on any team kit, not sure why but as decorativeed said, since adidas changed to the performance logo they haven't used the trefoil once on any teams kit since.

I suppose that's fair enough. I like the new logo and love Adidas kits, I just (like others I suppose) have fond memories of the trefoil logo, and especially United's old Adidas kit.

Can never understand how they can replicate the patterns on the fabric and the trim exactly... but can't ever line the logos and crest up properly. The club crest is always too low and half way into the armpit.

Both Adidas & Nike are in Oregon then..interesting

Talksport put an article of a possible template for both kits next year:

I think by mid April we will have a good idea what it's going to be for the home jersey, bit longer to wait for the away. That's what I've found in previous years.

and Swansea's kit

If they both had collars I think they would look brilliant

That's still the nicest mock up I've seen.

I know the use of the old Adidas logo has been ruled out, but even putting the new version of that would be a nice looking shirt.

We are more likely to get smashed by the Chevrolet logo again. Adidas couldn't possibly make a worse job than Nike did of this seasons kit imo. The scaling and design was fecking shocking. At least with the mock up below the badge, adidas logo and chevrolet is well positioned. I'm a qualified designer and was stunned that United released them jerseys last summer. This would be brilliant imo

The bow tie will definitely be included on the sponsor.
