Manchester United - January transfer window 2015 (twitter blacklist applies)

New Miguel Delaney piece says Van Gaal wants Strootman this January and a centre back too.

For once we have a clear strategy, we only sign players with recent knee injuries, after Strootman we are going for Alaba and Thiago.

Delaney says:

1. Both us and Chelsea have received encouragement from Varane's camp but nothing will happen there until the summer.
2. Van Gaal wants Strootman now.
3. We're also looking to get a CB. Hummels and Godin are the prime targets (though both are unlikely), Schar is a back-up option, as is Vlaar (except we were put off by the price Villa wanted), while we're also monitoring Laporte.

Didn't we come out with the same increasingly confident guff in the summer?

So McDonnell saying the same as Delaney. We after Hummels or Godin.

I hope we get one of the above now. They would need time to adjust though. Don't expect our defence to be fixed magically just by signing one of them. Our defence will be fixed when we can get the same back four consistently playing.

Godin would be tremendous. Leads the best defense in the world.

If we could get Laporte and Varane, we would have the Rio and Vidic of the future. One is left footed, the other right. Both are looking the best of their age group.

Godin is extremely unlikely right now imo, they are in the CL and are fighting for La Liga. We would have to tempt him with ridiculous wages if we want him in Jan. On Hummels I dont know, BVB arent doing well but it would be a dick move for him as captain to abandon ship.

I would rather have Shar now and Varane in the summer, both very young and capable. Varane will be world class imo.

I don't know why Alves' name keeps popping up. Every time i have seen Barca this season, he has looked out of place, and suspect defensively. I don't think he's a player we should be considering.

As for the CB spots, Godin would definitely be ideal, as would varane, though i don't think we could get either in January. Hummels might be more realistic.

He has a great relationship with Simeone and wouldn't leave them in January for any money IMO.

Can anyone explain to me why we aren't looking at lacazette. Would be so annoyed if he ends up at arsenal as reports suggest.

He's exactly the striker we need, young, fast, quality finisher and would cost half of what Falcao would cost probably half in wages too. We should try get him. He looks ready to make a step up.

Why are we not in for Schneiderlin? Wants to leave Southampton and is better than what we have by far. Him and a top defender and we'd be laughing.

I think before we make anymore signings, Van Gaal needs to decide what formation he is going to be playing going forward

He looked very good today, I must admit.

I am not even looking forward to new signings as now I am quite sure it's not the players which is our biggest problem, but LVG and his tactics.

Nah, it's the defence as clear as day, he just does not trust them which is why he is playing this 3-5-2, if we could get a half decent CB in, and a RB that can stay fit then we'll be good to go, either with the diamond, or 4-3-3.

Just hope we can do some business in the next couple of weeks, top four could depend on it.

If the defenders know he doesn't trust them, it's no wonder they are playing like rabbits in headlights. He has to do some business if he likes it or not or things won't improve. That lot will not stay fit.

Fit or not they're crap, at least as they are atm, in that I mean they need a strong established CB to look up to, someone to aspire to, then Jones, or Smalling might improve to United quality, Evans is just gone at the game, and Rojo who knows, to have this bunch as our main CB's is just criminal.

Who's available though that's the main problem.

What's not to like?

he's 23 so nowhere near his peak yet and so far this season in ligue1 he has scored 22 goals in 20 games and also has 5 assists to his name. I think I read somewhere that in all the European leagues only ronaldo is outscoring him. I hate to imagine what will happen if he goes to arsenal a front line off him, Sanchez, Walcott, OX and ozil is scary.

I'm just sick to death of our slow and predictable OAP's we have who can't beat a man to save their life, we need a live wire up front and this guy is it. If we offered £25million for him we would more than likely get him.

Hummels/Godin/Otamendi/Laporte in that order, if we could get one of those in January i would be over the moon! It would give us a huge boost.

Raphael Honigstein said on the European Football Show earlier that Hummels not likely this window, but possibility in the summer. That is the first time I have heard him give us a sniff of a chance of getting him.

Well, that is encouraging. Question is if we can wait until the summer, but it may be forced since their is no one available now. Only player i can realistically see us get is Schar and i don't know enough about him to be honest.

I do worry with Hummels that'll we'll just over pay for a player that is more name, than substance, not saying he's crap but then again I'm not too sure he's that fantastic.

He is a calming figure in defence and that is what we are screaming for atm. We have those hot heads in Jones/Rojo(Smalling is a bit calmer), but we need a player like Hummels.

I think he is class.

For once, just fecking once, can we buy players we need and that can improve us.

Schnielderlin was excellent today, he is exactly what we need, literally the perfect midfielder for us. He is available, wants to leave and we can probably get him for under £30million, but we probably won't even bid for him. Hell even paying a extra premium for him would easily be worth it, we can massively strengthen the midfield whilst weakening a top 4 rival. If LvG let's him go to Arsenal, L'pool or Spurs then he can feck off because we aren't getting Vidal and Strootman is basically another Falcao right now.

Same with Coleman, Everton could desperately use the money to strenghten and Coleman would add a completely new dimension to the team, he can beat players, put in accurate pin point crosses in the box, pass, got great pace and most importantly he is sound defensively.

Expect a deadline day bid for Ibrahimovic or something though.

Strootman played really well today and got an assist, looks like he is getting fit.

What about Pogba? I think if we want to spend big on a player then he's the guy. Only 21 so would have plently of resale value, he's an ex United player (good or bad, don't know). Surely £50million would secure his services, Juventus aren't exactly loaded either and might look to sell.

Ugh, would you want him though? Chip on his shoulder regarding his last stint at United. Might be a difficult character to keep in check. Liverpool should have a go for him to be honest.
