His movement was fantastic inside the box, not only for being in the right position but dragging the defense out of position themselves to create room for others. I think he would work great alongside Ibra, but just wouldn't work with our current system unfortunately :annoyed:

Apparently boca juniors are after Romero

I hope not he's probably the best back up keeper in the league. He seems happy enough with his role too.
 
It could have been a better window to me, but I guess that this one is only the preparation before this summer.

We're working on deals and begin to let players leave.

This summer out :

Darmian (to many left back)
Young
Bastian
Romero (as he may force a move to Boca)

Maybe leavers :
De Gea ? ==> Hope is agent, fax machine, breaks again
Mata ? ==> If we're going for Griezmann
Martial ==> Hope not
Jones/Rojo/Smalling ==> Maybe one of them may make the move in order to buy another central defender
 
After the last two games, I'm absolutely convinced we need someone in this transfer window.

Carrick still doesn't have adequate cover. Our record for when Fellaini starts is appalling, unsurprisingly. And there's still something missing in the front 3

Why mention Rojo and Jones. They will stay. Martial as well.

I think Rojo may well end up leaving, as good of a season as he has had. I can't see him being a long-term option for us in defence, more just a stopgap this season for Bailly's absense, Jones' injuries, etc.

As much as I liked him during his first spell, I like players that can contribute to the team play more. There were times it felt like we had ten men on the field.

We don't need the money though and he's the only CB we have that is comfortable as the LCB, where as we have 3 who are only suited to the RCB, makes more sense to sell one of them IMO.

The only way he would go is if we were getting an even better LCB. Cannot think who and even if we did, he would be kept as backup. I would have thought Smalling is under more threat than anyone. Jones and Rojo have done well, Bailly also has. Blind is now seen as a LB.
 
There will be a lot of movement in the full back positions.
And fringe players will be leaving. I guess Mourinho would want to trim down to squad players only and bring in some quality so there is competition.
But Yeah - Damian, Shaw, Blind are all with question marks.
Just like Fletcher, Evans and Schneiderlin if you want - Young, Bastian will leave.

I think at least one will be gone, definitely. I think Mourinho will give Shaw the rest of the season to get into full fitness (at some point soon) and make the position his, otherwise I could definitely see him targeting a first choice LB. Not entirely sure who, though.

He will pull another Bailly/Varane out of the hat.
One thing that makes me very confident with Mourinho is his scouting or whoever does it for him. Even if he overbuys at Times (at Chelsea for example) he knows exactly what he needs.
 
Roma is asking 30€ million for Paredes. Allegedly Liverpool, Arsenal and another unnamed EPL team are sniffing around.

Depends if Mourinho wants to continue with 3 man MF or he wants to look after the players that will allow him to play his favourite 4-2-3-1.

Technically he's very sound and has a very good passing vision, his defensive game and discipline on the other hand...

He is probably the best alternative to Weigl. Good passer, press resistant. The other aspects of his game can be worked on.

If we could get him this window it would be perfect.

30 million would be a gamble IMO, especially since he's coming off the bench this season. If we can get him for 20 million + some bonuses would be nice.
 
If we sign Griezmann then I can't see Mourinho adding a playmaker in the team next summer. He'll probably add 1 (or two if he sells Fellaini) Cambiasso type of midfielder in CM and he'll play one of them alongside with Pogba. Griezmann will play at Ibra's back with Mkhitaryan on the right and Martial on the left. If he needs steel in midfielders he'll play DM-Herrera-Pogba in CM with Cambiasso and Mkhitaryan as inside strikers at the back of Ibra. I think he'll assess the team next year and then make the decisions then. Can Pogba or Herrera play as playmakers? Can Pogba play as no 10? Can Griezmann or Rashford lead the line? Will Martial own the left flank? These are the sort of questions Mou will be asking

Pogba alongside some lump is a recipe for disaster, stick with 4-3-3 and get a playmaking CM with a brain into the midfield, that's what we lack every time Carrick is out, Pogba is way too undisciplined to play in a 2 and all it will do is highlight his weaknesses and heap the scrutiny and pressure on him.

Cambiasso is far from a lump.

Regarding Carrick I wonder if we miss him because he is a great passer of the ball or because he is our best DM. Fellaini is no 10, Herrera will never be a DM and Schneiderlin never showed us anything of note. Pogba can become a great passer of the ball at par with Carrick but he'll never be a DM.

Regarding Pogba he is a magnificent player but he also bring challenges. As you said he lack discipline which makes him an issue in CM. However he also doesn't score enough goals to be no 10 or the advanced midfielder in CM. Mou need to decide what to do on that and I think it won't be sorted next year, not unless he sees him alongside a proper DM.

So Castles thinks Mourinho still wants one signing in this window.

That gives us little over 2 days. We'd have to pull a Falcao or Martial (eg. someone on the last day out of nowhere)

Both were from Monaco, so maybe it'll be someone from Monaco
 
If we were going to sign someone this window we would have done it by now.

Pogba is a unique player, a hybrid of sorts, witout the 3 man structure you take away too much of his game, he needs
the freedom of the #10 even if he doesn't actually play as one. He needs ta CM to graft and the CM to control the game with playmaking ability in there with him, allowing him to play in moments and concentrate the bulk of hs game on attacking.

Manolas would be my best bet. Roma needs the money due to FFP rules violation and nobody wants to buy Paredes.
 
We could really do with a backup for the midfield, Schweinsteiger isn't up to it.
