Manchester United - January 2018 Ins and Outs

I think we’ll end up getting a LB but whether he’s first team quality is another question. Sandro in my opinion will end up at Chelsea, so we could end up going for a younger option like Sessognon and put trust in shaw for the time being. Furthermore, we could also see a RW like Malcolm join in January, but neither will add anything for us now if they came in.

Then in the summer, we’ll go all out for Dybala, but whether we get him or not is another question. Then we’ll also sign a CM, maybe a Jorginho, or Weigl if Mourinho wants that Carrick replacement.

If we want to go for another CM too, I remember we were linked with Dendoncker last summer, so maybe we sign him for the box to box role to replace Fellaini. If the budget allows.

I can see a big clear out in the summer, Jose has had time to assess his squad and my gut feeling is that he does'nt rate a lot of them.
The senior squad also needs trimming to allow the youngsters some opportunities, we could see as many as 8 players leave with 4 coming in and 4 youth players 'promoted'.

It's all quiet on the Western front, the transfer tumbleweeds are rolling through Old Trafford, but that might be a good thing as we do, do the odd out of the blue signing. There'll be a lot of fuss made if City sign Sanchez and Liverpool and Arsenal sign one each of Lemar and Mahrez, but I'd hope our inactivity is a sign that we are confident of getting a true top player in the summer and are keeping the powder dry.

LB and RWF seemed the two spots most hoped we'd buy in, in this window, but Shaw's return to the fold has apparently halted the LB chase, however I could see a forward option happening, either Lucas Moura on loan or Malcom to fill out the depth.

I am surprised to see us not go for mahrez before his price escalets. I think if we can buy him, we can free mata to play a more central role. We can also use mikhi rotate between mata , mikhi and mahrez. This will also help us rotate lukaku and rashford as front men.

Also our need for a right back is so urgent, I seriously hope the board is looking after this issue.

For me its looking increasingly likely that there will be no additions to the squad in January. Loads of rumours in the rags as always and plenty of agent talk, but not really any strong credible links to any players. Plus if we were really looking to bring players in it would've obviously made sense to do it early on, especially considering this ten day mini winter break we're currently on, which would've given new players a bit of time to bed in.

I'd be glad to be proven wrong, but I'm expecting us to go into February with our current squad (which is annoying but not the end of the world, think we'll still finish comfortably in the top 3 with what we have)

Would rather this than waste some of our Summer budget on mediocre-ish players in January.

To me, it's looking more and more likely that if we sign anybody at all, it will be Lucas Moura. I don't see any rumors gathering pace about other players being linked to us other than Lucas Moura, nor do I see any strong rumors regarding outgoings.

City are likely to pull further ahead of us if we're seriously targeting the Brazillian Theo Walcott.

Have the Glazers lost interest in spending in this expensive new market, or is that £150m budget causing Mourinho to look for cheap deals?

Isn't that from last week, where Spalleti says he can't afford Miki or Pastore as they cost about 30m euros?

Yes, plus he said if you want a player on loan, man utd want a your player on loan in exchage

And if united don’t want that player on loan? (spalletti said)

aren't y'all nervy about your midfield options what with Fellaini departing (right?), Carrick retiring (right?) and Herrera in a slump?
that leaves you Pogba and Matic (who function much better in a midfield 3 than a 2), Mata, Mikhi (for now) and some untested/proven youngsters in Pereira and TFM (assuming they come back). threadbare to say the least.

If we get Sanchez now, Ozil free in the summer, Fosu Mensa and Perreira back, Sandro and one top class midfielder to replace Carrick, we will be finally a decent team that can challenge.

If Shaw keeps it up, we won't need a LB, essentially saving £50m.
We will probably buy someone young to act as backup for around £20m though.

As you said we will probably have to spend another £50/£70m on a new midfielder, for when we play 4-3-3 against harder opposition.

Martial...Lukaku..Sanchez
........Pogba New CM
.............Matic
Shaw Jones Bailly Valencia
............De Gea

It's crazy how much two players (Ozil and Sanchez) transform the look of this team and for very little money also.

...........Lukaku
...Martial Ozil Sanchez
......Pogba ... Matic
Shaw Jones Bailly Valencia
............De Gea

Sold: Darmian, Blind, Mkhitaryan and Fellaini who won't sign a new contract.
