Manchester City under Pep Guardiola | Pep on City v Liverpool ref: "He likes to be special"

You mean, the way he transformed Bayern from a side that wiped the floor with Real and Barcelona to a side that had their asses handed to him by those two sides? Oh and that was also beaten by Atletico.
Beating Madrid in the penalties is hardly "wiping the floor". Barcelona didn't even had a coach when they lost 7-0 to them. Heynckes' Bayern might be the most overrated side of the century. The team peaked at that year, it was never destined to win multiple CLs

The media keep going on about they are favorites. Like who died and made them favorites to win the CL. Its like Barca,Bayern,Juve and Madrid don't exist.

Nothing more overrated than your side winning back to back UCL with offside goals, red cards not given the list goes on.

Bayern outplayed Real for around 190 of 210 minutes of that tie.

Anyways, overrated or not, they reached back-to-back CL finals. Pep could not reach one with them in three years.

Lost to Monaco and Lpool while at City. His brand of football amplifies the gulf in class when he has the superior players but does not work well even against sides of similar man-for-men quality.

Let's see if he can break the pattern, I have no reasons to believe that he can, given how stubborn he is.

We've looked the worst in the CL during Pep's era, while having the best players during that time. We looked closer winning the CL last year (probably should've won that tie against you lot) and even under Ancelotti than we had ever under Pep.

Not saying he had been bad for us, but his spell for us wasn't anything extraordinary.

Put that in your Amazon documentary and shove it up your arse. Ghost club.

Also, the attendance for a CL game was pathetic. If I remember correctly there was an article a couple of weeks ago about them juicing the attendance numbers up from last season too. Laughable, soulless, an empty vessel Arab plaything.

Gundogan should only be playing if one of the Silvas are injured, or the game is beyond reach. Pending De Bruyne’s return, the midfield should be Silva - Fernandinho - Silva.

Mendy is great going forward but his discipline is a problem. I think City have better balance with Delph at LB and Sane on the wing staying wide. Provides space for both Silvas to work between the lines. If Mendy starts it destabilizes the setup of the team. Fernandinho has less support as Mendy doesn’t tuck in, and City are more prone to counters.

Unusual loss at home but they were really good at bouncing back from losses and setbacks last season. They’ll still qualify with ease.

That’s nonsense.

That’s nonsense.

That he lost to Monaco and Liverpool is not nonsense, it's a fact.
Regarding the rest of what I wrote, I am waiting for him to prove me wrong. Pardon me for not being overly impressed with winning the CL with a Spain midfield + Messi or with winning the Bundesliga with Bayern. Or with guiding City to their third title in seven years after spending half a billion.

I will eat my words if he wins the CL with City. For me, his first season at City exposed his true colors. No world class team, no party.

You’ve pretty much ignored all his wins against top sides last season or prior and used defeats against Monaco and Liverpool as evidence of the fact that... his style doesn’t work well against sides that boast similar quality. A quick glance through his history would show that claim up as nonsense.

Addition of Kyle Walker and Ederson all of a sudden pushes the team to world class status? You'd have thought they're peak Cafu and Yashin. Mendy missed the whole season basically, and Bernardo/Danilo were not even regular starters. Laporte arrived when the PL was more or less already decided.

And which sides would those be? I mean, what are the sides of similar quality of players that he did well against?

He had a chance to prove that he could do it with Bayern, but was beaten by all of the three big Spanish sides.

I maintain the stance that City have by far the best squad in England and that Europe is the real big test for him. He had a chance to prove himself against Barcelonas, Reals and PSG's with City, but could not even get past Monaco and Liverpool, two inferior sides. Let's see if he can do it this time and I will gladly eat my words.

So far, all that he has done was to repeat the achievements of managerial greats such as Frank Rijkaard and do it in a way that is a bit more pleasing on the eye.

Yes, as they had great quality all over the pitch bar a few positions and that's exactly the sad part. A couple of weak links and boom - it all goes crashing down.

What were Real Madrid while he was at Barcelona? What are Man United, Liverpool (at home), Tottenham, Chelsea... are all those minuscule sides now compared to City?

It’s your prerogative to maintain that standard of CL or bust for Pep, such an argument is pointless to engage in if you think the only test for him is Europe. Lord knows what you must think of Zidane with a star studded Madrid team or our Mourinho with the amount he has spent.

Which Real Madrid outfield player would get into his Barcelona side?

2009/11 Ronaldo over Messi?
2009/11 Kaka over Iniesta?
Ramos over Puyol?

Would ask the same question about the other sides you mentioned. Europe has to be used as a measuring stick as with such spending and such a squad... Pellegrini and Mancini already did it not that long ago. No big deal.

What I think of Zidane - I think the jury is out. Let's see how he can cope without Real's amazing squad.

Anyone seen Dimitry Seluk’s twitter feed? No words.

That's only half true:

Heynckes' Bayern 7-0 Barca (wiped the floor with, check)
Heynckes' Bayern 3-3 Madrid (uncheck)

Pep's Bayern 3-5 Barca (having their asses handed to them, uncheck)
Pep's Bayern 0-5 Madrid (check)

How on earth did you come to that conclusion?

Garcia goal in semi final in 2005 didn't cross the line. Liverpool on penalties in 2007 again SF unlucky. Terry slip in Moscow and we hit the post two times in OT, we were all over Utd. Again unlucky.

Watched our game and theirs at the same time.
With better decision making, Lyon could have had 4/5/6. They absolutely ruined City on the counter in the second half. Memphis should have made it three before Silva scored.

I mean I'm well aware of the post he made but still, other than it being halfway through an OK joke, why is it even worthy of a mention?

I don't appreciate the joke so that's why I had the eyeroll image. I'm guessing that @#07 also finds "the joke" distasteful. As Selyuk has/had links to City and his post is about City, I think it's worthy of mention in a City thread.
