The media keep going on about they are favorites. Like who died and made them favorites to win the CL. Its like Barca,Bayern,Juve and Madrid don't exist.

Anyways, overrated or not, they reached back-to-back CL finals. Pep could not reach one with them in three years.
Lost to Monaco and Lpool while at City. His brand of football amplifies the gulf in class when he has the superior players but does not work well even against sides of similar man-for-men quality.
Let's see if he can break the pattern, I have no reasons to believe that he can, given how stubborn he is.
We've looked the worst in the CL during Pep's era, while having the best players during that time. We looked closer winning the CL last year (probably should've won that tie against you lot) and even under Ancelotti than we had ever under Pep.
Not saying he had been bad for us, but his spell for us wasn't anything extraordinary.

Gundogan should only be playing if one of the Silvas are injured, or the game is beyond reach. Pending De Bruyne’s return, the midfield should be Silva - Fernandinho - Silva.
Mendy is great going forward but his discipline is a problem. I think City have better balance with Delph at LB and Sane on the wing staying wide. Provides space for both Silvas to work between the lines. If Mendy starts it destabilizes the setup of the team. Fernandinho has less support as Mendy doesn’t tuck in, and City are more prone to counters.
Unusual loss at home but they were really good at bouncing back from losses and setbacks last season. They’ll still qualify with ease.

Regarding the rest of what I wrote, I am waiting for him to prove me wrong. Pardon me for not being overly impressed with winning the CL with a Spain midfield + Messi or with winning the Bundesliga with Bayern. Or with guiding City to their third title in seven years after spending half a billion.
I will eat my words if he wins the CL with City. For me, his first season at City exposed his true colors. No world class team, no party.

You’ve pretty much ignored all his wins against top sides last season or prior and used defeats against Monaco and Liverpool as evidence of the fact that... his style doesn’t work well against sides that boast similar quality. A quick glance through his history would show that claim up as nonsense.
We were lucky in 2012. You are right, but we deserved to win CL in 2005,2006,2008,2009 before so we deserved trophy!

Addition of Kyle Walker and Ederson all of a sudden pushes the team to world class status? You'd have thought they're peak Cafu and Yashin. Mendy missed the whole season basically, and Bernardo/Danilo were not even regular starters. Laporte arrived when the PL was more or less already decided.

He had a chance to prove that he could do it with Bayern, but was beaten by all of the three big Spanish sides.
I maintain the stance that City have by far the best squad in England and that Europe is the real big test for him. He had a chance to prove himself against Barcelonas, Reals and PSG's with City, but could not even get past Monaco and Liverpool, two inferior sides. Let's see if he can do it this time and I will gladly eat my words.

It’s your prerogative to maintain that standard of CL or bust for Pep, such an argument is pointless to engage in if you think the only test for him is Europe. Lord knows what you must think of Zidane with a star studded Madrid team or our Mourinho with the amount he has spent.
