Manchester City under Pep Guardiola | Pep on City v Liverpool ref: "He likes to be special"

I never hear anyone claim a pre-99 United side was the greatest of the premier league era. Plus that side had to deal with (for part of that time) the foreigner rule and the readaptation to European football after the Heysel ban, and English clubs were relative paupers compared to Serie A in those days. City have no excuse - richest league, richest club, A list manager and they still come up way short.

Because the Treble side trumps all.

But any of those sides (1993-94 is my favorite) should be in the conversation.

He let his team down getting sent off at halftime.

Now he has just publically criticised 2 referees. Good old St Pep finally showing his true colours.

I didn't expect them to win anything this season and predicted so in one of the locked Guardiola threads ("At what point...") after their win at Chelsea. Because their squad is relatively small, albeit they have several high-quality players on the bench. They overperformed in the league but their small squad meant that they would be gassed come the business end of the season. They visibly got tired in the second half of last two games. They are quite ambitious though and will have a better squad next season.

Both they and Barca are walking the best leagues in the world but have crashed out of the CL. Because there isn't enough energy in the tank. E.g., Otamendi went from one of the best CBs in the league to a clown within weeks. If they had difficult league fixtures, they would fear for the title.

To be fair, it's quite difficult for someone to see his true colours when they are up his arse.

We somehow conspired to lose 5-1 in a very even game. Liverpool deserved to win, as did United at the weekend but in truth we were an inch or two from both being very, very different games unfotunately for us, the balls that were flying in the top corner earlier in the season are hitting the post etc.. lately.

Also Sane has fallen off a cliff and Otamendi has absolutely imploded. Results have dropped but in reality where we were getting the lucky breaks earlier in the season, now they are going against us. In the games v Liverpool alone we've had Salah's first being offside, Robertson pen, our goal ruled out for offside in 1st leg and tonight Bernardo hitting the post, perfect goal ruled out. Everything that feel our way earlier in the season is falling the other way now. Shit happens but no need to panic.

Be interesting to see the media reaction ....

Pep loses three (huge) games in a week, Pep apparently has no Plan B, Pep gets himself sent off (when the ref was not going to change his decision) and his team needed him.

Swap "Pep" for "Jose" ..... imagine the reaction?

Can't wait for Spurs to do them at the weekend.

Got to say what I saw from the young referee in the Roma/Barcelona game was impressive (though the initial shot-taker from the late chance for Dembele came from an offside position, too). His career is probably over. UEFA got no time for these youngsters thinking the game needs to be called fair and square.

It takes some effort to collapse the way they did in last 7 days so fair play to them.

Spurs to seal that quadruple for them on the weekend.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned elsewhere but as far as I can see, in the laws of the game, the offside could be the correct call.

If the attacker is in an offside position and the ball is deemed to come off the defender accidentally (not deliberately played, but deflected) then he’s offside.

My local team Ayr United had the exact same situation at the weekend.

93/94 was brilliant to watch but, considering the Champions League Final that year was Capello’s Milan beating Cruyff’s Barcelona 4-0, I have to ask myself just how good they could have been in the wider scheme of things. We will never know. But with City, there are no mitigating circumstances or what ifs - they are very skilled flat track bullies who have dominated the league but it seems they lack that bit extra.

Nope Milner attempted to play the ball it doesn't matter besides, Sane was onside when KDB played the pass, thats where the offside decision is made and called. when the City player passed the ball Sane was onside, City didn't do anything else so he's onside.

Not the reason we lost though.

It would be hilarious if they turned this season's league into a title fight, by losing every match.
Opposing teams need to learn that if you attack MCFC (and you have some decent players), they will lose. Not draw...but lose.
They lost to Wigan, LFC, MUFC.
Conversely, if you park the bus (which almost every team has attempted to do against MCFC)...you will lose.
I do hope that Spurs go absolutely all-out to attempt to score 3-4 goals against these guys. they are there for the taking now.

Their confidence will be totally shot now.

Be interesting against Spurs
I don’t see them winning that. I’m pretty sure Spurs are unbeaten in the league since United beat them in what, November?

To be fair Liverpool got every single ref decision go for them with the offside goals and penalties over both legs

City were unlucky over both legs but sometimes you get the luck and sometimes you don't

I hope he's punished for his comments. Shame he's cracking so late on in the season.

Those series of last minute winners earlier in the season really carried him a long way. A few more draws and his true colours would've eventually come out like tonight.

It’s not.

The current relavant law is if a player is in an offside position when the ball is played by an opponent.

If it was deemed by the official to have deflected off Milner then offside would be the correct decision.

Wow. Did not know that about Spurs.

They should be fired up to best City too after the game at the Etihad which got a bit tasty.

I think tonight's game went exactly the same way as the game against us at weekend.

City seem to running out of gas and loosing some of there intensity in the last 20 minutes.

The best way to play them without a doubt is to have a proper go at them.

Eh? That’s completely wrong. The ball was deliberately played by Karius, then hit Milner. Sane clearly wasn’t offside.

They got destroyed at the Etihad in December. Kane/Alli should have been sent off in that game.

Lose to Spurs and Swansea becomes hilariously vital to them.
West Ham away in this form wouldn't be a comfortable fixture if that happens

Cant be. Aguero continued to play even after that tackle.
They ran out of subs. Many times players carried on to play the ongoing match just to miss the following game...

Anyways, I am not doctor or ITK so who knows. Just my guess on why Pep mentioned something like this now. Aguero starting this game IMO would have helped City

Is there a thread regarding the media’s embarrassing United agenda and City arse-licking?
