as for Barthez I do think he was a bit hesitant in dealing with Leeds' goal and he is too weak dealing with crosses, sometimes he is over confident and sometimes he is hesitant when it comes to crosses and what good are you in the English game if you could not deal with crosses?! <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" /> </strong><hr></blockquote>
He could nothing on Leeds goal, the shot was too close. Anyway his preparation has been disturbed by an injury, he has to play more games. And he can deal with crosses, just see Chelsea away last year for example. We can win titles with him, after all we did in 2000.

Humm. There were defensive frailties but in most of our defeats we couldn't score (Chelsea, Bolton, Middelbrough, Arsenal home, Liverpool home... or scored only one). Sometimes we scored 5 and sometimes 0...</strong><hr></blockquote>
That's true. But there were other considerations. Like chopping and changing with the system - we were on a run when we changed it against Liverpool. Also, a lack of confidence in the back four would spread right through the team, creating a hesitancy going forward.
That isn't the problem this year - that is purely down to lack of service from midfield, and missed chances from the strikers. If that can be put right, things should improve. They won't improve by putting in new players en masse, because to be a good team means consistency in the personnel.

I read that Spurs have 12 injured players, so their injury-situation are even worse than ours (!) Hopefully Gary Neville makes a start today, and our two CB's will be John & Rio (would love to see that)
United 2 Spurs 0
Cheers!

I don't think they couldn't score because of the defence, because most of the times they could score in spite of our bad defence (Tottenham for example)and in certain of the games we lost we didn't concede many.
I just think that the best defence can't do anything if the midfield is too porous, just like strikers can't score if the midfield doesn't give good balls. It's a question of balance.
