Silvestre 6 - Didn't get forward much, and hoofed the ball too much, but defended ok
Rio 9 - he's fecking class
O'Shea 8 - untroubled and assured
Wes 8 - Great cross for the goal, good wing play, and good defending
Giggs 7.5 - Pretty good, more a teamwork performance than an individual one
Veron 8.5 - Playmaker, and did it well, had a lot of the ball
Becks 8 - Good cross for Ole's goal, passing improved over last game, stuck to the wing more
Forlan 7.5 - Linked up very well in the first half, with good vision, tired a bit second half
Ole 7 - Scored, but was largely anonymous</strong><hr></blockquote>

Becks was sluggish i'd give him 6.5

Veron deserves a 9

agreed about Rio.

Alex pleased with the speed of the passing and play...wet conditions helped...much sharper tonight...rio and o'shea partnership very promising...forlan needing a goal, leaning back a bit when he's shooting, his movement is very good...batistuta - no! though he said it with a smile...english boys did well tonight.

First half becks was very sharp, not second half, which is to be expected. Great cross for the goal, some great cross field balls and good overall play. If Veron kept on playing so well second half I'd have given him a 9 too, very promising too, he's got his point to prove and he's proving it too. Looking at the replay of his goal - what a touch!

If Wes performs so well at RB in every game then you could be right, think though that this was just an experiment to see if we can play Wes there while Gary is injured.

And I believe Wes passed it with flying colors

It was a very good pre-season performance.

Rio's amazing! Becks in for his best season ever and Veron is looking very good. :D

Carroll is a perfect back up keeper and I would trust him to be first choice.

I liked Wes as RB tonight, better than Pizza IMO.

Forlan is looking good too. But not in front of goal. Should be used as a withdrawn striker or midfielder IMO.

Butt should be a regular. He's world class.

Yep to all of the above :D

Y'know what's even better? Fergie and Carlos, according to Rio, saw some problems in the Ajax game and got them to work at that, and it helped in this game. Our STYLE of play was much better today, better use of the wings in particular.

Was it Forlan that set up Veron for his goal? (They only showed Veron in the replays.)

And still Becks spent lot of time in the middle, yet were always on the right when needed there.

Not sure, as you say, the replays started with Veron on the ball.

Good performance, much more desire than on Friday. Sleek, quick passing, more like the United we know. A couple more warm-up's, and we'll be up to pace.

Veron, fantastic. Solid performance, challenging for every ball. The odd, miss-placed pass, as he tends to try to play the hard-ball everytime. He showed his worth today, and looked like the Veron we signed, world class. Goal was well-taken, and mouthwatering.

Beckham and Giggs both looked considerably better than on Friday night. Beck's cross for Ole's goal was perfect, as we've come to expect, and Giggs made a few decent runs. A few weeks, and both will be upto full-fitness.

The defence, despite the age, was solid and rarely troubled. Was interesting to see Rio, O'Shea, Brown and Mickey together. Rio seems to be having no problems settling in. Carroll, again looked comfortable and commanding. Perhaps he could be challenging Fab for the #1 spot. I wouldn't rule it out...

Forlan, obviously the talking point. Again, a not-so-cofidence inspiring performance. His game simply 'reeks' of pressure and lacks confidence. The main chance he had, went soring over the bar - with confidence, he would have dinked it over Fray. I'm still confident he'll come through, although, if he goes any longer without a goal, it won't do him much good.

Ole looked sharp and goal-hungry, a good sign for the season ahead. The youngsters that came on, Pugh (again), Stewart and Djordjic all looked comfortable and settled, especially Djordjic who got really involved.

Overall, a great performance, especially considering Ruud/Barthez/Scholes we're out, Keano/Blanc were on the bench. I was very impressed with Carroll and Veron, and also the young defence, a sign of things to come perhaps.

Forlan will come good.

Saw him a few times last season and he was unlucky.

Big heart in the lad.

The new number 2 is really showing his worth. Is it just me, or does anybody else think that Carlos could be our most important signing of the season ?
The future looks very bright! :D
cheers!

I'm sure he will be, when we got McClaren we won the Treble.

A very good performance and much more improved from the first match. Beckham, Giggs has improved largely from the first game and Ole, Butt, Rio are also very impressive.

And there is also chance for me to look at some young stars directly. O'Shea is very composed, strong and confident with the ball. If he continued to play like that Brown will be under big pressure for his place. I don't know why Fergie seems to rate this Pugh, as it seems he is not ready yet and can hardly get into the match. Stewart has shown some progress, his holding of the ball and involvment in the play have improved. Djorjdic worked very hard after he came in, but I think he may have a problem in that it's difficult for Fergie to determine his best position -- he played as winger now, but his lack of speed and explosive power may finally make him convert into a central midfielder.
