1-0 Giggsy !!!
scored from a cross by Brown, who has been doing great job at right back so far.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

Giggsy scores from a cross by Wes Brown. Great cross, Giggsy just had to guide it in. Maybe Wes can do right back still?

We're tearing them to pieces at the moment, only one side in it really. Good possession football, with Rio helping in that regard - no hoofing the ball upfield.

We are the cock of the north,
We hate the Scousers,
the Cockneys of course,
We are United...

Fans are in fine voice tonight - can barely hear theirs.

I was hoping we'd take the wimblepool style for this season, much more exciting ;)

No nevilles playing today. Its really helping our style I think.

Forlan's doing well, great movement and creativity.

Ole takes a snap shot on goal, from a lovely touch by Forlan (PDC style) but the shot it straight at the keeper.

neville free football

wes doin the business out at rb , i could live with that option.

wes out at rb - i could live with that. i like that back 4. speed and size.

So far, this is looking like United proper, a real performance. Second half though will show their fitness, would expect them to slacken off and tire.

sorry about the doubled post

Free kick against us, Nicky Butt took the ball, but got the player on the way.

Perfect place to take a free kick from....

Hit the wall, and then off for a corner.

Survived another corner, we still don't look too organised on corners, was something I noticed last season too. Goal kick now anyway.

trackers back up , but neil's as good , if not better. he can post the "f" bomb

Cheers mu77. We do look better with the defense in terms of passing, possession and cohesiveness. Test will be though can they defend, Parma aren't really challenging us much in that respect yet.

Butt is really helping the defense out it should be said. No wonder he's now first team. Veron has played well so far I think, nothing brilliant but steady, useful and good passes.

Forlan just missed a difficult chance from a giggs cross.

how do butt and veron look together?

i think PS would get a big run if not injured. all the england players are in.

never mind , jayus you posted it up as i asked it-feck me. he's better than the tracker trust me.

Scholes is having a scan tomorrow morning, expected to be out for the CL game. Butt and Veron have done well together, our midfield is functioning well, hence the domination of the game. Beckham and Giggs have got crosses in, mostly being played into crossing position by Veron rather than Giggs charging to the touchline.

I haven't bothered with the matchtracker, you have to register for the bloody thing now. Anyway I had sky installed yesterday and I'm fecking loving it!

Carroll had to save a deflected shot, was a nothing chance really but you never know with deflections.

Giggs running down the wing, then coming inside, wish he'd just take it to the corner and then cross.

HT United 1 - Parma 0

Only one side in it.

Veron was excellent in the first, particularly the first 30mins.. ran the showm with some great passing and vision..

...and Rio looks a great purchase

how the back 4 look as far as the run of play? anything from parma at all? i'd love to see butt get in that 1st 11. w/PS being injured jsv will see a lion's share of the mins in mf. would keane and butt be creative enough in attack as the mf pair?

Quite a contrast in performance to the Ajax game, though I expect the england players to struggle in the second half and there'll be the usual substitutions. Best thing was that we played like United, Butt provided the edge in midfield, Veron the playmaking and great balls, Giggs and Beckham (and Wes) the crosses and WING-PLAY, while Forlan linked up the play and was very involved in the build up. Best thing though is our defense are joining in with the play and passing the ball across the deck rather than hoofing it, really giving us an advantage in possession.

Totally agree, Veron was the playmaker in that half, spreading the ball to the wings particularly well. Forlan also linked up the play well. Ole is a great player, but he's not as good as linking up as Forlan, I hope Diego can feed him a ball to score from, they've got close so far.

Rio is a great purchase, settled in instantly, I don't expect a few bad months like with Blanc. Ball playing defenders really seems to fit with United and our style of play. Wes has impressed at right back too. Micky has managed ok, not really got forward much though. They've only really had to defend the usual things like crosses and pot shots, which sums up Parma in the first half, thought they were better than that, but maybe they don't like the rain. ;)

sounds good to me. i like to see o'shea in there with rio. someone to add an edge to the "culture" of rio (or blanc). someone to play "bricktop".

The HT analysts noted that Carroll has done well, and they're right. He doesn't draw attention to himself like Barthez, and Schmeichel in a differnet way before him. I think he could be more vocal, but as a keeper he is very sound for someone of his age, very reliable - and that is reassuring.

If he plays like that the majority of the season.. all United fans will be happy ;)

He looks a more settled player....IMO

They seem more similar to each other than that to me. John is a no-nonsense player who probably hasn't got the experience or confidence to do some of the cool yet cheeky things that Rio does, but he'll just make sure that things are safe and get the ball clear. Very composed.

At one point early in the game Rio was on the left wing, sold their player a dummy and got a good cross in. Incredible from a CD.

Maybe... also perhaps without Keane demanding the ball all the time it helps him to shine. Wasn't Veron's performance against Deportivo away with Butt?

Anyway, second half is underway. I see the scousers are 2-0 up and Heskey missed an easy header. Sadly I didn't switch back in time to hear what the subs if any were.
