Man United v Liverpool Post Match

But it's not, that resembled nothing of how we played last year. That wouldn't even get us in the top 10 never mind second.
We may not play as expansive as people want but it doesn't mean we play atrocious football that even resembles how we played tonight.
You wouldn't think so seeing all the comments on the internet.

There was a big difference in mentality between both sides yesterday. We came in thinking it would be a pre-season match, whereas Klopp seemed to have his boys playing with more of a regular season intensity. They were gegenpressing the feck out of our kids and fringe players to where we were doomed to not get anything accomplished from the start.

another excuses? please. it was the international cup, it is always prestigious and a big game agains liverpool. Like in training you play in reality, if we are unable to be pressed in training, let alone no-nothing game agains liverpool than we aont be able to make it when playing a real game..

Maybe you've been hibernating on asteroid in the kuiper belt for the past couple of weeks but we are basically on a working holiday in the US where our players are doing stuff like this....

and this....

There's nothing competitive about these matches other than an opportunity for the players to work up their fitness levels to get ready for when real football starts.

I think their second half side had a few more weeks worth of pre season as well.
We died in that heat, us and their ginger goalie.

For objectivity he wasn't having a go at the USA fans. He quoted the term soccer to be relatable and when he said their passion deserved more, he was emphasising that the team's quality wasn't an adequate reward for the passion they showed. There's enough unnecessary stuff you can point to without having to resort to slander

Quotes have been posted over the first 8-10 pages but context is important. Tonight, once I've watched the press conference I'll type up the questions and what Mourinho says then will post them all in a new thread.

With the 'Alexis not being happy' quote, the journalist who asked the question was the one who originally stated that but because there was no question in the tweeted quotes, it made it seem like Mourinho was the one who said it in the first place.
Very true. Where he didn't help himself was his theme of redirecting his every reply to stating the team wasn't great eg the questions about the US fans and Sanchez both had the same unnecessary negativity. At those point he was volunteering unnecessary information. The interview wasn't as bad as first made out to be but it sure as he'll wasn't free of negativity either

Won't stop certain posters trying to compare it to Hillsborough.

A certain poster on here is getting ripped on RAWK for just thought. Wind up merchant and attention seeking I do believe it's called.

We wouldnt be saying "it's only pre-season, though" if we just hammered Liverpool 4-1. I dont like seeing Liverpool put 4 past a side wearing United shirts. Even if it's the under 10s or the over 80s wheelchair match. It's shit to see.

I snorted

Oh yeas, international cup is as prestigious as you get.
its international cup after all.

Why was that though? Seriously, I get that Utd had more players away at the WC and more coming back later but what I can't understand is why Jose didn't start your preseason earlier with the ones he had and also organise a few more games before going to the States.

No team can control how many players are away at the WC and in fact its a good sign as it shows quality. We got lucky that Holland didn't qualify and for different reasons Milner, Lallana and Gomez didn't go. But surely knowing that you had a lot of players away (and with the chance that some would go all the way) this was the summer to start preseason early, make the best of what you have and at least get fringe players fit in case they are needed.

Honestly I couldn't believe what I saw last night in terms of difference in fitness levels. That must be a concern with less than a fortnight to go. Will Pogba and Lukaku be ready for Leicester?

Nope. Jones and Rashford are the only two players that made it to the last four who will be.

You should still have enough as you're at home (especially if you take McGuire from them - altho maybe he wouldn't have played anyway).

it is a game against liverpool, you are united fans?:nono: tell me a fan who lieks to lose 4:1 in this fashion in any kind of game??

Of course no fan wants that, but the result is being a bit overblown out of proportion.

I don't like to especially in a prestigious International cup with capital I and C.
Why do you keep mentioning the cup, I mentioned it because someone claimed it to be a training session while it is part of our preperation and it is a nothing game it is still a sharp game against Liverpool, I guess some young fans like you don't really understand that

dunno how old you are but sure act like a kid if that makes you laugh and cant understand a bit of history of this club, I said it is always a prestigious game to play liverpool no matter what

Sack the manager. Clearly, one of the season goals was to win the International Cup and he isn't delivering. Now we need to work for second tier trophies just to save the season, like premier league and champions league...

City lost to us last preseason 2-0 with a depleted squad. Meant feck all in the long run. These are nothing games. Those who got irritated by it and went on meltdown need to have a look at themselves in the mirror.

Judging by Mourinho's reaction in the post match presser, he was clearly irritated by it and went on a bit of a meltdown, better show him the mirror.

It isn't. Get of your high horse and quit patronizing, you literally don't know anything about me.

The result means nothing.

The performance was woeful. For some reason some people on here have decided that we’re not allowed to be irritated about a woeful performance from the team we support, in which they got completely outclassed by our most bitter rivals.

The reason we’re not allowed to be annoyed is because we had only 4 first teamers in our starting line-up (same as Liverpool) and kept our “stars” on the pitch for 81 minutes, whereas Liverpool took theirs off at half time. Either that or because the season doesn’t start for absolutely ages (Friday week)

So yeah, we should stop our silly moaning. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Jose didn’t want this tour, he hasn’t got the players he asked for and he is again criticising certain players for taking a holiday. Shades of his second spell at Chelsea I think.

Two things will happen. Either he gets the two players he wants and the emphasis is then back on him to provide a title or he will use the tour and lack of signings as an excuse to cover up the inevitable poor performances for the early part of the season.

Of course, a third scenario could happen and he could leave or be sacked which would be no surprise. Either way it’s a shambles as is every preseason of late. They never learn.

Bailly and Sanchez were literally the only players in that line-up that could be considered genuine first team players. Mata and Herrera are squad players these days and the rest of the team was comprised of academy grads or fringe players. Combined with the fact that the team itself was lacking a striker (in any form of the term) it's hardly surprising that the team looked clueless and disjointed.

It was a friendly of little to no significance.

And that is all Jose had to say " proud of my young team, competed well, two dodgy penalties, good experience, thanks for out American fans for turning out etc as opposed to what he did say.

Honestly, I'm still struggling to see what all the fuss is about regarding his comments.

It seems to me that people are jumping on anything Jose says (literally anything!) taking it out of context and using it as an opportunity to have a swipe at him.

My thoughts exactly. He said most of these youngsters won't feature in the first team and he's right. Liverpool have most of their first team players back and we don't. A lot of the players we used are still far from being first team material. Saying that I still think we need top class full backs and a proper right winger. It's a shame we just have Sanchez and Mata up front and an out-of-form Martial who looks very complacent and seems to have fallen out with Jose.

Preseason cups, are they even made of silver or cardboard? Not worth the material they are made of.

It was a training session. Klopp hasn't beaten us in 3 years in the league, we will smash them again this season regardless of our final positions.

Did we ever see the gif of Robertson kicking his own feet to win a penalty?

If you think any game between UTD and Liverpool is a nothing game then maybe it's you who needs to look at themselves in the mirror, you're right that in the long run the game means nothing, UTD fans were gutted they lost whether you want to admit it or not just like our fans would be if we had lost, i hate losing to UTD just as much as you hate losing to us, to the managers it's a training session, to us fans UTD vs Liverpool is a must win game, how any fan from either club can say this game was meaningless and meant nothing is beyond me.
