First of all I have one for you. Who do you think that wants the best for the club? Mourinho or Casillas? Think about that instead of blindly calling my club a circus at every opportunity. I've admitted that my club is far from perfect but turning a blind eye for Mourinho's antics at the moment is absurd, you can't be such a big fanboy of him surely? Anyway, let's stop derailing this thread, if you reply to me, do it in the Mourinho thread or one of the dozens of other active ones that are more appropriate for you to show your disdain for Madrid or love for "the only one".
I wasnt being a fanboy. That was a genuine question. I wasnt taking any sides. I just wanted to know your opinion.

I've been very against Moyes' appointment. But I can see why they have hired him and to be honest I am coming around to the idea.

I wouldn't like it if he brought his Everton mentality and played 1 striker, but with the prospect of Fergie working close to him, we could breed him to manage the Manchester United way. The way Busby did for Fergie.

And the chances of Moyes ever leaving for a new challenge are pretty much zero. If he can, I think Moyes will be here until his retirement.

Good luck Moyes. Win us the league or Champions League in your first season and you will be a hero!

Ok, I'm sorry then. It's just that this subject is just doing my head in at the moment. The club has been in turmoil for what seems like forever now.

I'll always side with whoever I think has the best intentions for the club, and I have a very hard time thinking that's Mourinho at the moment. Brilliant tactician but even better shit stirrer, your club did good stearing clear, I really mean that.

It was ever so slightly amusing to watch the board buzzing about the prospect of nicking Mourinho from us at the death as he romped home as the Caf's top choice, to horror at the thought of Moyes, to grinding to a halt about a phantom Mourinho PM, to collective acceptance that Moyes was the best man all along and Jose represents a bullet dodged.

Not really, knee jerk reaction was it had to be Mourinho but considered opinion has changed their minds....

Now, don't you have some 'Rafa Out' bedsheets to paint? Or has that all calmed down since he's won a few games?

The Benitez antipathy was never based on results, it was based on him slagging off the fans and the club, claiming that he would never take the job and then going back on his word, without apologising for his slights.

Results are largely irrelevant. Anti-Rafa songs have been sung win, lose or draw. I think everyone is just looking forward to the end of this unseemly affair.

The press conference promises to be entertaining, can't imagine the press not mentioning United.

Yet not a peep about the guy who decided to feck off someone like RDM and appoint Rafa, strange.

Anyway, I certainly thought Mourhino initally, but over the past few days I've changed my mind... imagine, changing your mind once you've had time to think something over.

Welcome to the new manager, can't say he was my first choice (I want European Cups now) but I think its probably the best for the long haul.

Not to mention the success rate of 'second comings'. Keegan at Newcastle?

Press conferance just started

David Moyes: "I'd really respect it today if you keep questions to Everton today. I'm manager of Everton Football Club."

Anyone else who's noticed his slight resemblance to a certain Scottish character from the Thick of It?

Now he would be the perfect successor to Fergie when it came to press conferences.

Same character with better scriptwriters.

The giddiness of opposition fans is amusing. Chelsea fans of all people should know that when you've a great squad and a winning mentality(as our team have) then managers doesn't matter much.

I'd also like to see how Jose performs there btw, he has been a failure at Madrid and destabilized their club.

Dethroning the "mighty" Barcelona can hardly be called a failure.

Just giving an honest opinion. I was over the moon with the appointment, if you had appointed Jose I would have been absolutely shitting myself about the prospect.

Same as me. I can't imagine United fans being worried had we appointed Moyes.

I felt exactly the same when he was recently being linked with Chelsea. There were rumours sweeping a Chelsea site that he'd bought a place in London in anticipation of the job and I thought he was dull, had never won anything and wasn't experienced enough in Europe.

As such, I'm delighted that he has gone to a rival - especially given how potent I believe Mourinho would have been there.

I agree with your point, but I'd hardly say he's "dethroned" them. They're 8 points ahead of Madrid with a game in hand. They've effectively won 2 league titles, the CL, and a Copa del Rey in the 3 years Jose has been at Madrid.

Get ready for another year of putting up with him. He'll get the sack alright but the year after his departure he also makes a point of throwing cheap shots back, undermining the new manager and other shit-stirring. At least here he has alienated so many they may be completely galvanised against that.

I hope it'll be stipulated in his contract that he must never wear a tracksuit on the touchline on matchdays

I'm sure someone has already posted this, but I was thinking about the average length of a Premiership manager's career and just worked out the following:

As of today, the average career length of Premiership managers is 4.08 years. When Ferguson retires, and Moyes moves to United, that will instantly drop to approximately 2.2 years.

No, he wouldn't have been worrying indeed, you still have Roman to ensure anything going gets ripped apart. The only manager I was ever concerned about with you was Hiddink because they did seem to get on. Mourinho? That won't end well, it won't even start well.

David Moyes said that he had no inkling until this week that Sir Alex Ferguson was leaving Manchester United or that he had been nominated as his successor.

The outgoing Everton manager told a packed press conference at the club's Finch Farm training complex that he never doubted that he should take the opportunity and did not hesitate when it was offered.

He was shocked by it but had taken a "really big step" going from Preston North End to Everton in 2002 and that it was a similar step up to go from Goodison Park to Manchester United.

"I'm disappointed to be leaving such a great club," he said. "The club has been such a great part of my life."

But when asked if he had considered turning down United's approach, Moyes said: "I have to be honest and say no."

He insisted he had not been planning to leave, despite his contract running out this summer, and that he had been planning for next season.

"I wasn't planning to leave," he said. "My contract was running out but if you had pushed me, I would have said I would stay. Everything is in place for next season, pre-season has been arranged and the chairman knew what I wanted to do."

Regarding informing Bill Kenwright of his decision, Moyes said: "It has been very difficult. I have great respect for the chairman and have a great relationship with him. He is a really good guy. We had a difficult meeting on Wednesday but he totally understood." He confirmed that Kenwright had asked his advice over a successor.

Only once did Moyes speak specifically about the man he is about to replace, saying: "I don't think anybody thought the day would come when Sir Alex Ferguson retired. We all thought he was superhuman: he is an example to anyone in their 70s.

"The respect for him within the game is beyond any words I can use. We are from different eras. I grew up looking at Jock Stein and Sir Alex Ferguson. First I admired him and then, as the years have gone by, I have competed against him. I cannot say anything that would do justice to what he has done."

Moyes said he would understand if Everton fans were upset at the manner of his departure though he insists he will stand in the usual place in his dugout on Sunday for his last home game, against West Ham.

"Maybe the hardest part on Sunday will be at the end of the game, but I will be coming back to Goodison Park," he said. "I will not be away long. Hopefully on Sunday the fans will react in the same way they did when I first walked through the door.

"You can never tell with football fans. They support their team and I would understand it if they weren't happy. But I will be standing in the same position as I always have done, trying to see if we can take this outside chance of getting into Europe."

Okay, so after the initial disappointment of not signing someone who could have possibly brought the sexy back to united's play, I've started coming round and begun to see the positives of this appointment.

For one, is IS a good manager who Fergie has deemed fit for United, which means he probably has the right character for the job. Secondly, his Everton side have suddenly gotten a lot more entertaining to watch this season. They've had physicality and fluidity in equal measure which has been impressive. Yes, it's one season out of loads but it's the most recent one. Finally, I can see us being a very "tough" side. It's an aspect a lot of people have moaned about in recent years and Everton always impress me with their aggression so I can see him installing some of that.

All in all, while he isn't the man I wanted to take over at united, he's a good manager who fergie saw a lot in. So I look forward to seeing how he puts his imprint on this united side and what his ideas and philosophies for it are.

According to you he didn't even for one minute consider the United job as being worthy of his majestic presence, so is this potency given some kind of totally hypothetical scenario where he'd want to manage us, then?

His reputation as a disciplinarian could be seen to manifest in Everton's yellow card count. They received just 27 yellow cards all season – the lowest in the league and 6 fewer than their nearest rival Liverpool.
I think we'll be OK.

It was nothing to do with any FA influence at all. I meant that Moyes has his players playing a more physical brand of football, pressing higher up the pitch thus conceding more free's and possibly more cards.

Edit: But Cunto has shown that I was talking shite.

"AS and Récord are both claiming that Mourinho was in fact Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice but that the Portuguese coach turned United down.

Spanish and Portuguese publications AS and Récord both claim his family's desire to move to London as the reason Mourinho turned United down"
Remember, he had his heart set on that United job! Honest!
