Man City game. A potential turning point…

Nah, the only way we win that game is by fluking it massively which in the grand scheme of things will mean very little. It will feel nice but it felt good for their fans when Wolves, Palace and a few other smaller clubs beat them in recent months/years, our aspirations should be much higher.

Until we have a team playing good, sustainable football on a regular basis all these one off wins won't really matter much.

We are game raising cnuts, and that is the only sliver of hope. But otherwise we should be comfortably beaten. Not necessarily embarrassed.
Our game in past weeks doesn't give any confidence to face a well oiled machine like City.

Maguire to boss Haaland and then score a last minute winner, probably.

Haaland is going to emerge from the tunnel and, all of a sudden, the sky goes dark. Something is blocking the sun.

It's Sir Harry as he abseils down from the rafters. His enormous and gorgeous head blocks out the sun. Haaland recoils in fear as Harry lands on the ground with an gigantic thud. The rest of the City squad are nowhere to be seen.

"Not today, Erlin'," says Harry as he waves his finger. "Not today."

The crowd cheers. Donny is absolutely loving it and losing it from the bench. He has never seen such heroism. Antony starts his victory spin early. Rashford takes a shot at goal from the changing room before the game even starts. Martial broods.

His Royal Highness, Sir Harry, turns to wave at the crowd and flashes a smile. Today is the greatest day that he has ever known.

United go on to lose 6-0.

Man City Form:
LLWLWW

Man Utd Form:
WLLWWW

Because of City's average form we may lose under three goals. Our form looks ok but performances has been shite. As a point wise we have over performed recently. Even win games has been surviving.

A turning point to what though?

Even if we win this game by putting 11 behind the ball, somehow keeping them contained and nick one on the break....nothing has changed.

Our performances are clueless, incompetent and directionless. We play genuinely horrible football and unless something changes there it's more of the same.

We are missing players, sure, but the type of performances we are churning out against bang average opposition is criminal. Now it's a hit and hope against a side that actually is class.

If Rashford, Bruno and Cas find the kind of form they are capable of and we get a few back like Shaw etc...we might be able to find some sort of form at some point.

But I can't see it. It's dreadful.

It's a derby, if we beat City it will be fecking brilliant regardless if you think we are any good or there's any hope in the distant future.

I find the idea of not losing this one ridiculous, considering we are struggling against the likes of Galatasaray and Copenhagen at home.
But I like to believe in them everytime until it's over, so why not?

Was pretty surprised to see the Odds for a City win as high as 1.7 (british: 8/11). This gives me some hope, when even the neutral stat machines say there's a 40% chance of Utd getting a point on Sunday.
Let's trash them!

This is Rashford's kind of game against Rashford's kind of opponent. If the manager has it about him to add some nuance, we do have a chance.

As much as I have a downer about the game, it is winnable with the right application.

The signs have been there that we are about to turn things around. Performances have been top notch and we are pinning teams back in their own half without our fantastic possession play, creating chances at will and barely giving the opposition a sniff of our own goal. City will be dreading this game - they will be lucky to come away with anything less than a hiding.

If we sit deep and try and nick something we might get something or limit the damage, as per some of the other teams who have done okay against city this season.

If we are wide open through the middle like usual then City will easily get 3 if not more.

Its a turning point in the sense we're on a mini winning run and haven't been completely thrashed for a little while.

I really don't think we're in a place right now to judge whether we beat City or not as a standard bearer. We might beat them, in the same way Aston Villa or West Ham might.

Takeaway from this thread: we won't win and even if we do win it doesn't matter because it will only somehow prove that we're terrible.

It's amazing anybody tunes in.

Haha, indeed.

F*ck the badly dressed, blue ketchup stained Kangol tracksuit wearing oddballs.

The chance for a much maligned player to have his Diego at Anfield moment.

Rashford needs to be fitted with a small device like in the Film "Speed", where the device will immediately signal to the linesman he is to be substituted if he drops down to walking pace at any stage while the match is on. I couldn't believe how much he walked around the pitch in the game on Tuesday. I think I might have covered more distance walking my dog that day than he did.

If he does that again he should be docked his wage!

We can win this. We won't, but we can. But we won't.

Yeah that's how I felt reading the op
"This could be a turning point! I mean we'll get smashed, but if we don't, this could change our fortunes! (but we won't win)"

Nah, I’ve noticed it for a while now. It’s always taking the understandable opposite view and is part of the reason why I engaged with them a few days ago. There’s a Chelsea fan who does the exact same thing where they constantly back the ref over any bad decisions we get.
I spent two days in a discussion with them where they brought up old United results, our away form v big teams, our away record by only winning by the odd goal in general etc. They gave it away by trying to back up what they wanted to happen with facts and figures that simply wasn’t true.
notice how none of that is brought up and it’s City will strangle us, 3-0 when City haven’t strangled a game v a top team in 18 months now. Not a mention of our great home form over the last 12 months.
3-0. We went away to Bayern and lost 4-3, was half an inch away from beating Arsenal at the Emirates and was robbed away to the best team in the league this year.
3-0.
we may lose and it wouldn’t be a big shock to do so but I’m starting to call this out. It feels I’m going crazy reading some posts lately
Edit I honestly feel this is the poorest both teams have come into a Manchester derby for years now, ever since that 0-0 we had at OT during the pandemic.

You're very sensitive to any criticism of United. You're a good poster and it's totally fair that a United supporter on an United board is very positive, but there was nothing wrong with the post you quoted from footballhq.

We are gonna get absolutely demolished, will be a training game as usual for city.

United in crisis as the massive cheats get praised to the high heavens again. Anything other than that will be a positive.

I’ve watched us enough this year to see it’s going to be very hard watch.

Another home loss coming up , and I really don't mind in the current situation we are in. As long as we pick up at least maximum points after that game. There all winnable games until end of November.

This game on Sunday with a Rashford who's rubbish Antony who's clueless, Bruno who's out of sorts, Maguire at the back a keeper who has maybe turned a corner, a on loan left back who's just come back from injury.. only hope is McTominay may be a miracle man again, as long as he keeps his foot down. Expecting nothing from this game.. 1-3 ..

As ever we will play better against a team like city because they will push higher up the pitch leaving space for our extremely rapid attack.... however on this occasion I cannot see our defence holding out irrespective of goals the other end... the only turning point this will be is back around to crap after the elation of the other night

We're losing this by at least 5 I'm afraid. We have very little attacking threat, and that attacking threat is a 20 year old who can't do a lot without supply. We have two of the most one-dimensional wingers in the league, a midfield that somehow always features McTom and the ghost of Bruno, and a defence where Maguire looks like our star player. This is all without even mentioning the issues our new goalkeeper has had, our injuries and our wafer-thin bench.

Can't see this as a turning point. We will most likely get hammered, which everyone is expecting.
If we don't get hammered it will be by luck or an act of God, which in either case means nothing about the future.

We are Mickey Goldmill. Bring the bastards on!

Mickey died in Rocky III and would therefore be unable to help Rocky defeat Drago in Rocky IV.

Unless you're implying that we're already dead, which could be interpreted as being very apt right now.

Thats how I feel, but I’m treating it like shroedingers cat until the game, we have neither lost heavily or won , so why not presume we will win, until we lose

Who is, or was, Shroedingers cat ?

Every game is a turning point, that's why we're always going round in circles.
The thing about turning points is that there's no guarantee that they will mark a turn for the better!! But there's no need for premature despondency. City haven't been all that this season.
