Maguire | NOT McGuire or MacGuire

I'm not watching Sky actually, just noticed you'd signed two and also brought in Evans.

Certainly think there's something in it. Three new CBs in one window..
We have lost 2 from last season and needed one begore we lost them it’s really not that complecated

Sky bets.

More outlandish stories..more bets..

Sky used to be the final word on transfers. Some of their claims in recent years are beyond laughable. And not even remotely true.
Sky sources sold Mahrez to Arsenal for about 450 windows in a row

Really not convinced by this guy. Doesn't actually do much in the way of defending, not counting winning a few aerials off an isolated Rashford. Takes an age on the ball much of the time, looks relaxed doing it but if we complain that Smalling slows down out play then Maguire could irritate. Looks great when moving forward with the ball but purely as a defender I just don't see it, terrible recovery abilities when it breaks down.

He's a good defender but he isn't really any better than we got when any of our defenders are in form. He's one to watch though so maybe we go after him next year if he keeps improving.

Leicester’s back line are all over the place and their full backs are always out of position. Can’t place all the blame on Maguire. In the same way that we claim José is not competent at coaching Attack, Puel is Inept at coaching defence.

As good as Bailly was tonight I did think Maguire was the best CB on the pitch, I said all along this summer was one too soon for Maguire to move but I can definitely see him still being a target in January and next summer

Feel now it's probably inevitable he'll be a United player sooner or later

Much better in a back 3. Would imagine Leicester will start playing that given who they've signed this summer, get Evans fit and the guy they signed from Freiburg and there's your three CBs.

Seriously? He carelessly gave the ball away a couple of times, and didn't exactly mark our forwards well when we was counter attacking. If Sanchez wouldn't feck up every pass, I think we would have smashed 4 past them at least.

I was not at all impressed. He didn’t seem to do anything particularly well. If not for a handball block by the other guy on Mata and a fabulous save/poor finish by Lukaku, United would’ve put 4 past his lot. One game and all, but I don’t see it. Nowhere near a 75m pound player.

Didn't really notice him. He'll have harder days than today given how our attack played.

He takes so long to get back into position, in a back 4 he's a liability.

Why is the harsh critics? I am not defending him but he has little to zero pre season. While I myself didn't rate him highly, but isn't it pre mature to draw conclusion on the first game of the season under this circumstance?

Some pretty obvious sour grapes...

It’s not really a good thing if your CB is your best player
If his worth is 65m then it is. He isn't tho and he wasn't, so its fine. But i do agree its harsh to judge when he has had no preseason.

You didn't see those raking 30 yard balls delivered beautifully into the path of the attacking wide player, the surging runs from the back into the middle and the sharp short passing?

Leicester could have easily put 4 past us as well, and, they had better chances. De Gea did his miracle worker routine again otherwise we're not winning this one.

I'm watching the match again btw, it's quite clear he's quality.

They had only one good chance, one.

Ok explain the chance shit to me. I can remember the De Gea save on Maddison, the volley Vardy ballooned over the bar and the fluky ass goal. I’m not gonna apologize for believing his “surging” runs into midfield followed by a sideways pass leading to nothing is impressive. I definitely expected him to be more of a threat from dead balls but I don’t recall him winning one header despite the mass amount that Leicester had. I agree he and Morgan marked Rashford out of the game but other than that, an average performance. Hence, being unimpressed.

Ienacho, hard name to write, within the first 10 mins. Shot from the left side of the pen area, goes inches past the far post.
Him again, twice in the pen area, not strong enough to finish, one time shirt being pulled by Lindelof who was in panic mode, could have easily been a pen if he had not been very honest and stayed on his feet, Iborra when De Gea mishit a pass and Lindelof was completely out of it, but poor first touch wasted the opportunity. That Vardy volley as you mentioned. In the middle of the season, that's in.

Every ball that went on his side, dead. Both situations where United scored, Morgan's side. Even off the ball. Couldn't get past him nor Chilwell.

Sideways passes? Watch the game again. He'd come through the middle and ping them accurately down the flanks to set up Leicester's account, but of course, since he's the opposition, the analysis is gonna be biased, isn't it? EVERY ball of his has to be meaningful otherwise he is average, probably just like that Perreira dude was average or Gray wouldn't be an improvement over Mata.

He was a threat on dead balls, that's why the setup was to get them before they reached him. They never got the delivery right for their dead balls this match. He's usually standing at the far post to head in slightly over hit ones. Like Fellaini.

Thought he had a really good game, stepped out well, passed the ball well, and played with a sense of no nonsense calmness that Bailly sorely lacks, whilst physically dominating our attackers (he'll have harder challenges on that front).

Not saying that makes him a £65m player (although what one is I don't know these days), but if we'd have signed him and he'd given that performance for us yesterday he would have had people salivating.

having a CB or a keeper as your best player is always a bad thing, no matter how much they are worth, if a defensive player is your best player your team isn't up to much
