Maguire | he stays!

personally i think the club shouldve just accepted the 60 million double offer mctominay/maguire. Had that gone thru we couldve got rid of maguire, added amrabat, and if im assuming they can do whatever the hell FFP math chelsea does couldve found a cheap up and coming 5th cb prospect to start grooming.

If we dont get Amrabat this season, I dont think top 4 is reasonable. We need legs in that part of the field to help Casimerio... McFred didnt work because it took 2 players to make what you really look for in 1 player. Height and or aggressiveness. Now that we lost the hustle with Fred, it leaves us McTominay who we all know isnt good enough consistently.
Amrabat is a must have at this point.

or the other hope is that mainoo comes back from injury and is just a revelation for someone who his age. I do think we are really short on deep midfield depth. Wasnt a huge fan of targeting mount, but willing to give the benefit of the doubt for a month or two to see how it all works together.

How about the metric of league finishes, and being in the CL places in back-to-back seasons?

Yeah, nah. We pissed away 3 years making zero progress. Had we hired a far more progressive manager back then, we would be in a better place. Ole is a great lad, but he should never have gotten the full-time gig.

Maguire was just a tragic signing.

We progressed from 6th to 3rd to 2nd. That's literally the exact opposite of "zero progress".

Maguire played well for the first couple of seasons. You seemed to think so as well at one point:
Our defence is ok, but given the defenders we've been used to over to the years it's fairly weak in comparison. Maguire is our best CB but he's nowhere near the standard of CB's we've had over the years. In saying that, the standards of CB's in general seems to have dropped off massively from 10 to 15 years ago.

Progress  . We actually went from 2nd to 6th. Then somehow finished 2nd the following season following a bizarre run of form after Bruno came in.

Wait, what? You think that's praise for Maguire?

If Maguire was the best of our defenders, that means superior to what came before. It's the literal definition of "progress" and a contradiction of you describing that time as...
zero progress

And if we follow on from the logic you established in your own posts, him being...

our best CB

cannot in any way mean that his signing was tragic.

You're really reaching here.

Best CB out of a heap of shit, i.e. best of a bad bunch. Not exactly resounding praise for the world's most expensive CB. Why don't you quote where I was dead set against signing him etc, and this was under Jose.

Because I didn't want to make you seem like an agenda-driven poster who hated him from day 1 and was incapable of judging him fairly.

But you done the exact opposite and proved I at least gave him a chance

This was fun. Not everything is an agenda btw; that's just the hip term. Sometimes, signing a bang average defender for a world record fee, really is fecking ludicrous.

Pavard is off to Inter partly because Maguire refuses to leave. We're letting a guy who can play RB/CB to a very high level get away because we want to keep Maguire who adds nothing to the squad and is quite frankly a waste of wages at this point. We will regret this.

i think there is zero chance this is the case. We do not "want" maguire. We just do not want to pay a huge fee to him and take a loss to just get rid of maguire and not be able to replace anything. EtH just isnt dumb and knows if he is stuck with maguire there is no sense in shitting on him publicly, which also would take whatever value he would have in any negotiations with west ham or anyone else who comes before end of window.

hmm. Be very interested to see if maguire doesnt travel to london squad. Would seem to be a very direct message to him if he doesnt even travel-especially with martinez not being 100 percent apparently.

He's not in the squad apparently.

People blaming Maguire for the incompetence of the people running the club really? He's a useless cnut but this whole situation is the fault of the Glazers and the idiots they allow to run the club for them.

i mean it depends on what maguire was trying to get. if he was trying to get a 15 million payout than yeah he is a twat. If he wants a fraction or towards the lower 6-7 mill number then not as bad. Dude is naive as feck so wouldnt be surprised if he was trying to get 15 million with how deluded he is.

Probably has a knock. ETH has spoken about it in the press conference . Unfortunately nothing to see here

Pavard going to Inter now anyway so Ten Hag won't allow Maguire leave this close to the end of the window.

He's so sick of him :lol:
I don't think he's sick of him, I think he's pushing him to improve. Maybe, like the fans, he's sick of the lack of even an attempt to improve as a player. It sounds like ETH would give him minutes if he would get his head down and work on aspects of his game that he struggles at. He's not improved at all as a player since he's gotten here and that's surprisingly gone under the radar.

If harry had any ounce of respect for himself and his career he would leave.

But I suppose there could be 190k reason per week why he won't. Lets not forget his agents and other hanger ons won't want him to either.

Its the lingard situation all over again.

The incompetence and the Glazer/Woodward axis is unquestioned, but it's now Maguire who has put a gun to the head of the club demanding that we either underwrite his current contract for the duration of the current length of his contract, or just buy it out, or else he refuses to agree to a move another club. We all get that he demands the cash he's contacted to receive, but we are all within our right to condemn for putting his greed above all else.

Maguire's past significant improvement at this stage. There are possibly small things he can tweak which might make an impact in a slower league playing deeper, in terms of reacting to specific 'plays' or in terms of starting moves off with a specific type of pass looking for DLP's position or a FB run, but not much he can do at, or for, United.
