Maguire | he stays!

Absolutely shameless if true. Let him rot in the reserves for all I care.

If he doesn’t care about playing for Engurland then so be it. He can be our Winston Bogarde.
We seriously fecked up in both the transfer fee and salary we paid to Maguire. It's caused us a ton of problems to get rid. I think we just have to pay it and get a fresh start.

I can see the press release now.

One of the oldest sporting institutions - a household name synonymous with success - has finally been sold.

He leaves having captained United to EFL Cup glory earlier this year.

We also sold the club.

"Glazers will remain minority stakeholders"

Because hating on Maguire is something they find fun.

It's equal parts weird and fascinating to witness.

There's actual news that personal terms have been agreed, but they'd rather whip themselves into a frenzy over the idea they haven't been.

It's so ridiculous to see and why I have to practice discernment when engaging on certain players. Some blatant negative agenda posts at times.

We will see tomorrow if “everything is agreed”. If it is, we can’t risk injury, so he should be out of the match day squad

Considering he barely played last season and was a walking disaster when did play. I cant see him featuring for us ever again.

Luke Shaw, who had never played CB before last season, was ahead of him in the pecking order and was levels above him in terms of performance.

The fact he wants us to pay him to play for a rival PL club ruins any good will he had from United fans.

I can see him being massively boo’d if he ever plays at OT again.

Harsh, he signed a contract with us where we guaranteed him £X for a set period. He’s not wrong to want to hold us to it, as annoying as it is.

It should either be 30m with no payoff, and Maguire can seek his cover from West Ham, or 35m and a pay off.
30m AND a payoff isn't that great is it?

£30m transfer fee and saving ~£20m in wages over the last two years of his deal. Minus what was reported as ~£6m payment to him.

We're still £44m better off.

I think you are being very optimistic there. I’m no accountant but his fee was amortised over 6 years, so he costs 13.3m per year on the books. So say £26m still to pay, if you add the £6m pound payoff that puts the club at minus £2m on the books over the next two years with him gone. You could say they are saving £14m in wages if he were to stay (which I think he will).

The amoritization is for bookkeeping purposes only, he carries a charge of 26M for FFP purposes but the full fee has already long since been paid.

Hence why I said “on the books”. It doesn’t really matter whether it has been paid or is in instalments anyway, all that matters is FFP. If that wasn’t the case we wouldn’t be waiting to sell to go for Pavard/Todibo.

The way Villa played yesterday, with the high line, he is last person they need as cover
Keep my CB's name out of your (negative) posts. The guy is world class and is worth at least £50m.

No we're not - his replacement will cost a similar amount

"Ten Hag: For Maguire, he has to fight for a place in the team. He has the potential to become a world-class defender, he is the best defender for England, so why not be the best with us? But he has to prove it"

Erik ten Hag says Harry Maguire would be better off leaving Manchester United if he is not confident enough to battle for a first-team spot.

The United boss is adamant he thinks Maguire can be an important part of his plans.

However, after Ten Hag took the captaincy off the 30-year-old, United then accepted a £30m bid from West Ham for him.

"He has the ability to be a top-class centre-back," said Ten Hag.

"He is the best for England so why shouldn't he be the best for us?

"But he has to prove it. When he is not confident enough to fight then he has to go, then he has to make a decision. But I'm happy with him."

I thought Maguire is being sold, what are these sataments from ETH? isnt it too late for Maguire to fight for a place when we already accepted a bid?

Could the comments indicate a possibility that we’ve hit a wall in our pursuits of a replacement?

Why the hell would Ten Hag say this?

So far, he’s never said that any particular player was shit - he only says good things about them.
Its cool to say those things mid season but in this moment? We have a deal agreed with West Ham, why bother answering questions about him?

a simple..

"Maguire is in the process of leaving us, there are still a few things to sort out"

would have been enough.

So far, he’s never said that any particular player was shit - he only says good things about them.

Exactly. It's his default shtick and to be fair it's mostly worked for him.

Praised Martial and got whatever performances he was able to out of a perma crock, low on confidence player. Same for Rashford.
Praised Ronaldo despite dropping him and came out looking as THE boss of Man Utd who set the standards.
Praised De Gea and got whatever performances he was able out of someone who is clearly limited and has been on the decline for years. Then bought a new keeper.

Not sure it helps that ETH says things like he's in contention for Monday and has previously said he has a role at the club. Maybe Maguire does think he has an outside chance of his forcing his way back into the team, particularly if Varane gets injured.

ETH says a lot of things in the press, dodges quite a few questions, and generally gives very little away re: what he actually thinks. Best to look at what he does.

First thing he does when the lads come back in preseason is call Maguire in and strip him of his captaincy. What other interpretation is there than: mate, you're not in my plans: I'd rather play a left back ahead of you.

Also: Maguire is 'one of the captains' but tell you what, let McTomminay captain the side ahead of you during preseason, shan't we?

I'd bet my house that what ETH says in public isn't what he says in private. Maguire knows where he stands, even if we on the outside can only guess from the manager's actions.

Yes which is the whole point.

Maguire for two years - £44m worse off and a useless 5th choice benchwarmer with no potential.

Spend that money on a replacement - potentially sign a future worldie who could long term replace Varane and be worth £60m plus

Wait is this for real? He is on 400k a week?

Or potentially sign someone worse

A club like United shouldn't be signing players based on what they might be potentially worth though

But he hasn’t accepted terms, Maguire thinks he’s bigger than West Ham, if Villa are sniffing which is the rumour United will squeeze £35-40m out of them and they can pay his wages or get much closer than West Ham.
