Think that's why he's staying. There's nothing more cringe worthy than seeing him come on in the last few minutes or even injury time and the first thing he's bothered about is getting that armband. It's just embarrassing and I'm sure if we're lucky enough to get a trophy he'll elbow Bruno out of the way to lift it. Hope ETH leaves him out of the squad as we should have enough for the bench without him and then he can toddle off somewhere else in the summer.
Don't worry he will eventually pass it sideways to the leftSo...
If we beat Newcastle, does he lift the cup
Who’s 3rd?He’s a 4th.
Who’s 3rd?
If he's third then why didn't he start over Maguire against Charlton in quarter final and why did Shaw start over him in the derby?Victor.

So why can't Lindelof play in quarter final against league one side then? Maguire and Martinez started. It's not like Lindelof was rested because the one who played the previous one and the following match was Varane and Shaw.Charlton are a League One aide at home in the Cup, whoever plays is not any reflection of hierarchy.
Shaw is seen as left-sided option and not in competition.
Because Lindelof has played a lot more minutes than Maguire this season so sometimes you have to spread it outSo why can't Lindelof play in quarter final against league one side then? Playing more minute because Maguire had injuries. All of sudden when he's fit, ETH picked him over Lindelof. I don't think it's justify to call either 3rd choice anyway when Shaw is being picked ahead of both now.Because Lindelof has played a lot more minutes than Maguire this season so sometimes you have to spread it out
I also think Maguire will be moved on in the summer and I even think it is the most important sale we have to make.
Firstly, you cannot have a club captain rarely playing. It could potentially confuse or upset the squad, as well as Maguire himself.
Secondly, I think he is a very bad fit for what ETH wants from his defenders - quick to recover turnovers in a high line, front-footed, good on the ball and a maybe more importantly a quick thinker with the ball. Maguire has none of those capabilities.
Lastly, I think he is our most sellable CB asset (probably around £40 m) - a good defender in the right setup, a leader and an experienced international. I am sure someone like West Ham, Villa or maybe Newcastle would love to have him as a player.
Josip Sutalo from Dinamo Zagreb looks and interesting prospect to replace him. 22 years old, Croatian international, strong and tall, a very good passer and he has decent pace. I think he would work well with Martinez, Varane or Shaw.
He isn’t
Lindelof was picked ahead of Maguire on more than 1 occasion while Maguire was on the bench. He's definitely not 3rd choice. Playing lower league opposition was an occasion where we would obviously dominate the ball and they wouldn't have much counter threat, so it made sense to get Maguire who is better on the ball. But otherwise it was Lindelof against normal opponents.Playing more minute because Maguire had injuries. All of sudden when he's fit, ETH picked him over Lindelof. If you read what I said neither Lindelof and Maguire is 3rd choice, so I don’t know why are you arguing with me that he’s definitely not 3rd choice. West Ham would be a great move for him IMO (and them). Maguire + 50Million for Rice would be a great deal for all involved and hopefully is being explored.
Is there another 3rd choice CB that cost a world record fee for a CB?
Absolutely farcical signing.
He’s a 4th.
You could argue that one of Stones/Diaz/Ake/Akanji is the third CB at City and I would have all four of them over him
Of course, but the check has been deposited and here we are today.
The question remains...is there a better third choice CB not only in the PL but in any league today? The answer might be yes, and if it is I'd like to know who.
Club teams only. The Argie NT insanely had Otamendi starting over Martinez (I'm not a huge fan of Romero, but he is competent) but technically Martinez was the third choice CB for the Argies and he's clearly superior to Maguire.
He's clearly off in the summer.
Unless there are injuries I think we see him start at most 5 games between now and the end of the season and then he's going.
We're going to take a massive loss on the transfer, £40m or £50m loss but there's nothing we can do about that now. Best for everyone if he leaves. At the very least it seems like he's being professional about being dropped and on the way out. He's not leaking stuff about how unhappy he is or arranging interviews with Piers Morgan to slag off the manager.
Maguire is a good / very good CB for most PL teams. Just not a top team that wants to play high up the field, press and dominate games.

I'd rather sell him straight up and not get Rice for an extra 50m. I don't see how he fits this current system other than being Casemiro's back up. Maguire + 50m is a lot for a back up and seeing how Casemiro plays every game ETH can possibly play him I doubt he'll be happy about that either. That 80m-ish figure could be spent in so many better ways. We need someone next to Casemiro that can dribble, someone that doesn't mind carrying the ball forward if needed. I don't see that in Rice.
Agreed hes off just too slow for ETH. We'd be looking for a backup CB so i dont think it would be that difficult to find a replacement. Maybe someone like timber who can play RB and CB.He's clearly off in the summer.

Casemiro isn’t going anywhere as our first choice CDM for the next few years. We don’t need Rice and he won’t come in as a bench option. We need a younger prospect willing to learn from Casemiro. Caicedo fits that profile better.Make it 20m and throw in McTominay. They get a very good CB (for West Ham’s level and style of football) and a direct Rice replacement, plus 20m.
if only.
Caicedo is going to cost upward of £70mil and like Rice he isnt going to sit on the bench either. Whats needed is a younger upgrade on eriksen with eriksens vision and technical ability alongside casemiro.Casemiro isn’t going anywhere as our first choice CDM for the next few years. A central midfielder, goalkeeper and striker are pressing priorities, but we're capable of signing more than three players in the summer. We managed 6 last summer if you count Dubravka.I really don't see this happening only because we have too many positions to replace and upgrade that I don't think that we'll have the time or money to replace him.
I disagree. Caicedo is looking to take a step forward in his career…Man Utd squad from Brighton is a big step. Having captained his club and played at the World Cup and euros etc. Rices next step is to slot right into the starting 11 at a top club. While neither are ideal understudies for Casemiro, I would spent out €80 million on CCaicedo first.Caicedo is going to cost upward of £70mil and like Rice he isnt going to sit on the bench either.
