Maguire | he stays!

Can't wait for Maguire's knee slide in front of the Stretford End when he inevitably scores in West Ham's 1-0 win at OT this season.
He's one of those old fashioned players who would never celebrate scoring against a former club.

Nothing against Maguire, really don't understand the vitriol he's received here recently, but I don't think this is a good deal for the Hammers longterm. I think he's declining quite rapidly.

Good deal all round. He fits the Moyes style of 10 men behind the ball and we will finally be rid of him.

Im just disappointed it sounds like theyve moved on from McTominay.

Moyes only cares about this season and not beyond. If he doesn't have a barnstorming season he will not get another contract so he us making us solid as he can for this year with not much of a care going beyond this year, hence all of the older homegrown players who should rapidly slot in without bedding in time.

To make only a £50m loss on him is better than I thought. What does it look like in amortization terms?

That's not really how it works, we got "value" in use out of him over the last 4 years.

So, we techincally made a small profit on him on this years books £80mil over 6 years is 13.3mil per year, so there was only 27m left of his transfer fee.

We’re gonna need another CB and another midfielder then if we’re selling a couple of mids aswell aren’t we otherwise we’ll be left short.

McFred is for sale too…

I'm suggesting that when you're a very famous footballer, you shouldn't go to a very popular tourist destination and hang out with the rest of the drunks. There's nothing wrong with going to Greece but if you're that famous you should pay to go to the places where the drunks aren't, otherwise you're going to end up getting yourself into trouble.
That’s just not true statistically though is it. Footballers go to popular tourist destinations ALL THE TIME.

Pretty much victim blaming here. Unless you don’t believe his version of the story, which I guess is a different argument.

Lets hope this doesn't fall through. I don't blame Harry for the fact he cost us £80million, nothing to do with him and he was only ever worth half that amount at his peak but form has been poor at United in the last couple seasons and under ETH's style he's been found to be way out of his depth. I've found his comments in the press over the last season or two to be strange and severely lacking in self-awareness but all that being said I'm sure he'll do fine at West Ham and wish him well, although it wouldn't surprise me if they're in the Championship in 12 months.

Depends on how highly the manager rates Mainoo.

Are two serviceable midfields.

It's a deal that should work for everyone really. We get ok money to reinvest, Maguire gets a fresh start and West Ham get an experienced international who should do well at a club with lower expectations.

Never thought it would happen. Good move for all involved.

GL Harry

And they pay for anonymity! They don’t put themselves in a position to get into an altercation with random people.

During Covid a bunch of players went to popular tourist destinations within Europe because there was less people and they could get away with it. When Covid was dropped, they all went back to the likes of America and Dubai where they can have a holiday in peace, all except Maguire who seemed to have forgotten he was the captain of Manchester United.

Andy Mitten even said on his podcast that there were some other lads in Greece at the time but they weren’t going out with the locals, but Maguire was. I’m not saying he deserved it, I’m saying he put himself in a position where bad shit can happen because he wasn’t aware of how big United are, and he’s probably quite stupid.

Was his contract 6 years or 5+1 and does that make a difference for FFP?

Yes, Maggie who is 74 and doesn’t even like football uses Harry Maguire as the punchline to all her jokes.

I was referring to that clip of a politician in some country’s parliament using him as the punchline for a joke in a non-football related context. So, I’m a bit unsure as to what 74 year old Maggie who seems to have taken up residence in your head has to do with my post?

We arguably need another midfielder whether we sell someone or not.

Depth-wise, you could argue that with Shaw able to play CB and Evans and Williams (or Fernandez) as third tier emergency cover, we might get by without signing another CB. I don't think we'll take that route though. If we do sign another defender, it'd be great if it was someone who could double as RB and provide a bit more there than AWB and DD can.

If I had to choose, I'd rather have Amrabat in and take a chance on the defence holding up, than buy another CB and go with McTominay as the only backup #6.

No idea what video you’re talking about, but leave Maggie alone.

Big name signing, commanding presence, air threat, captain material…?

You are obviously taking the piss, he'll be worst than what he's shown here for them I'll put my money on him being a disaster signing that would eventually get Moyes the Boot.

Thank feck, his form since the Euros has been a train wreck, self sabotage at times. Don't doubt he'll do pretty well at West Ham assuming they setup their team to accommodate and protect him.

I never took to the bloke and I'm delighted he's going. But, he was captain here, so I wish him the best at West Ham. Hopefully he starts well, because the fans will be quick to get on his back, I imagine.

Not sure it does. By all accounts he rates him very highly indeed, but there will in any case be an issue with relying an on 18-year old with almost no PL experience as a primary backup for one of the two midfield pivot positions. More likely the 5th man for those two positions, so that he can be used in the situations that serve his development, rather than the situations where the team needs someone to step in for someone else.
