Maguire | he stays!

Guys, let's not post anything that can potentially derail this deal (even if there's a 1 in a trillion chance of anyone getting influenced by the CAF, it's still not 0). 30m+ is a great deal.

Maguire is an amazing player and top captain material who can elevate any defence he plays in. He'll likely help West Ham compete with City for the league this year. Sad he's being sold for such a low fee but oh well, we have to live with it. All the best to Maguire and West Ham.

Was his contract 6 years or 5+1 and does that make a difference for FFP?

According to transfermarkt it was 6+1 and not really no, the difference would be about an extra 10m in FFP budget in 2025. but even that is really hard to wrap my brain around as you'd have to factor that it's cost us more in the past years and this year, we techincally made more profit?.

At it's core we've done alright selling him.

Seems like a decent deal for all. We get a good fee for someone who clearly isn't in the manager's plans, West Ham get an upgrade in the CB position and for Maguire it's the fresh start he desperately needs at a side where their style suits him more plus he still gets to play European football. Not sure it's a great move to take the captaincy though, maybe vice-captain would be more sensible.

I think in fairness to him, he was brilliant for Leicester, everyone wanted him and Given the 75m Liverpool paid for Van , it was always a case of the two being compared. One kicked on and Maguire didn’t.
Yeah, but being great for a team that very much relied on sitting deep and counter attacking and being great for a side that desire a different breed of football is very different. I'm surprised that United went with Maguire who clearly had great limitations to his play. Good for certain types of football, but also very poor for other more expansive brands of football.

You are obviously taking the piss, he'll be worst than what he's shown here for them I'll put my money on him being a disaster signing that would eventually get Moyes the Boot.
I am smiling, not taking the piss. It was irony :)

Because West Ham agreed to pay most of the £30m up front today. That’s the only thing that changed. It gives us the flexibility to sign a replacement now.
Of course, thanks!
Over to the Todibo-Tapsoba discussion!

In the scenario that West Ham now signs Maguire, Edson Alvarez and Ward-Prowse for the money they got from selling Declan Rice, I would claim that's money well spent from them and that they've strengthened their team from previous season.

I both think and hope that Maguire will do well for West Ham, I wish him the best!

Very glad to see him go. Didn’t think all the abuse was fair but I never warmed to him.

In a team which plays defensively and sits deep, like West Ham most likely will under Moyes, he will probably do quite well. Wish him the best, good for everyone that this chapter is closed.

Good move for all parties I think. Can already see Maguire scoring against us from a pinpoint JWP corner.

Moyes obviously need a pointy person at the back.

If only he wanted a 90 million rated crap right winger who can't dribble, cross and knows only one way to shoot - we'd be quids in.

United strikes the lottery. Thank you for buying Maguire 'The Chosen one'. Good luck Harry, Moyes and West Ham will suit your level to a tee. I look forward to see him doing a knee slide, cupping his ears scoring against United.

If he all of a sudden learns how to direct a header the moment he leaves, I’ll be savage

Exactly he came and it just didn’t work out. Not his fault the massive transfer fee. £30m+ deal makes sense. He definitely strengthens WHU spine and is the big lump English style defender they need. If they sell Paqueta for silly money good chance the pay the £45m for McTom too. As crazy as it sound WHU will prob be far better as a team next season with these signings.

I never took to the bloke and I'm delighted he's going. But, he was captain here, so I wish him the best at West Ham. Hopefully he starts well, because the fans will be quick to get on his back, I imagine.

He will get 0 slack to start with I suspect, there is a significant contigent that resolutely hate this deal, not only due to it being Maguire but more that it represents an even further more towards dour crap set pieced based style of play and that is almost antithetical to some West Ham fans.

Unfortunately for him I'm almost certain he will make mistakes, almost players do, but he will still get the same amount of attention be auae Maguire is *such* an easy target these days. That won't change at West Ham, I promise.

However there will also be a decent number who will support him and give him time. But those won't be getting the media attention after his first calamitous mistake...

Why one, when we can give them two?

Great move for all parties. Harry's a better player than what he's been showing at United recently, as evidenced in an England shirt. His confidence was totally shot here. Should do very well at West Ham, which is his level. Just can't cut it at an elite club.

He could potentially be good for them... if they stick to being a bottom-half low-block team. Trouble if they try to be anything else with him in the back. Don't care either way, we got a bit more money than we had any business getting for him. As long as the deal closes, of course. I will hold off the celebration until the "Here we go!"

The abuse wasn’t but the criticism definitely was.

Ward prowse assists to Maguire are going to be lethal.. I predict Maguire scores 4 goals for them this season.

McTominay and Maguire gormlessly standing around in the middle of the pitch for some other team is also going to a site to behold.

I don’t understand why West ham fans are not welcoming him with open arms, this man has achieved so much and has nothing else to prove. Said the man himself.

I just looked at the West Ham Reddit to take a look at their reaction.

I'll be polite and say the reaction is not positive.

Not surprised. As United fans we just want to see him gone, so there's a lot of "he'll be excellent for them" type of talk which I'm not on board with. I don't blame West Ham fans for not wanting him! They've seen the guy be fecking awful for two years, and now they're stuck with him. Incredible move for us, not so much for them I don't think.

I agree! Definitely very happy to see players that are far from good enough finally being shown the door. We seem to be acting like a club with ambitions to compete at the top again, but we will see..

Getting £30m for Maguire would also put a different spin on the Mount and Højlund transfers, in my opinion. Paying roughly twice as much for each of those as we get for Maguire sounds quite reasonable given their respective ages and quality. The market really does seem to be a bit crazy.
