Maguire | he stays!

Varane was no.5 at Madrid wasn't he? Hopefully he can take Maguire's number now.
Yes and his idol is Rio so he will definitely go for that. Nice! I like keeping Rafa the Rolls Royce happy!

I bet he’s gonna be super salty about us for years. Fabulous.
To be fair to Harry, has he ever acted unprofessionally (sulking, running to media etc.) during his time at United? I hope he leaves, thanks the club & fans and goes on to at least lose all the memes about himself.

People can stop pretending he wasn’t poor long before Greece now.
The way I see it:

First season: started weak, making a few mistakes, but grow up in the season, and overall it was a decent season. Not great, but good enough. Our best CB.
Second season (Greece was the summer prior that): started terribly, but massively improved. Was a top 5 CB in the league in the second half of the season, then had a brilliant Euros. Our best CB.
Third season: Terrible from start to end, but almost everyone was terrible that season. Both Varane and Lindelof were better.
Fourth season: Somehow managed to be even worse than in the third season. Was also not as good as in the prior two competitions for England in WC2022. Varane, Lisandro, Lindelof and Shaw were better.

Quotes from West Ham fans:

Rough morning...
Odd. I spoke to a few West Ham fans before our game there in May & another one walking away from the ground and they all said they'd jump at Maguire if he became available.

Wonder if these are the same people...

Good luck to him! Hope he turns it around and wins trophies for his country. :D

Seems a decent enough, quite normal, hard working lad. Not good enough to win the top trophies but always tried his best.

He was fairly decent for us under Ole and most would have to agree we missed him massively in that Europa final as he was pretty solid that season.

I won’t miss his woe is me look on his face as he strokes his hair back into position after ballsing up again…but otherwise, I wish him well.

Internet fans are always widely out of touch with the reality of their teams ambitions, resources and capabilities. I think some of them were expecting players from Bayern and Madrid to all of a sudden fancy a move to the Hammers. There was some West Ham on here listing 3 players they 'could' sign to replace Rice and all of them were players that would have got into United, Barca, or Juve team's but apparently West Ham had a 'chance' of signing them all...

Two seasons of absolute shite and wanting him out on that basis is fickle?

Are we supposed to let him stink up the place for a decade before considering selling him?
Yeah mind boggling post, that. Fickle because we want rid of a player “some” may have wanted 3 years ago, because he’s been absolutely abysmal for us?

Yeah no shit and that doesn’t make anyone fickle either. Great and correct move for all parties.

We sell too cheap because we are too greedy when the players still have value. We could have sold Henderson for a bunch of money years ago, same for some academy players. But when the players have some value, we either refuse to sell them or put absurd prices (like in this case), then keep those players past their expiry dates and then wonder why we have to sell cheap or loan them when no one wants them anymore. While those players are on double the wages they would get somewhere else.

Smart clubs sell players when their stock is high. We refuse to do so, give higher wages than they should be on, so no wonder we eventually sell too low.
However Maguires career has gone I don't think 30 million is an absurd price. We should sell him for what, 5 million?
We made a mess with giving new contracts yes, but seems we're fixing it now.
I more meant how cafe is never happy.

This is a win-win-win for all parties, assuming we won’t pay any compensation for his salaries….

Maguire is a really good player in the right team and I believe that West Ham has a philosophy that is to his strength. In a few month we’ll all see how good he is.Unfortunately the last few years didn’t work for us. If we can get in a young prospect that fits ETHs philosophy, ideally someone there is better than Lindelöf then this transfer season could be a dream come true for many of us

Thne ignore the conversion? 40.5m for Maguire, great recovery deal.

YES! you know the deal...

Although I expect the media to report this deal as an overall loss on the accounts...80 mill - 30 mill

United sell Maguire for Minus 50 million haha

Confidence is a huge factor in a playe. Look at him for England - he's dominant.

International football is largely at a lower level than where the Premier League has reached in recent years.

He (and the England team) have in no way been dominant against decent competition in recent years.

I do think he’ll do well for West Ham though.

Good luck, but I honestly doubt he gets much better at West Ham than his average level at United. Thank you Moyes. Now get McT over the line and I’ll try harder to dislike you less.

Absolutely. At the time of signing him, I was never convinced he was the right move for United. In all honesty, I felt he was a downgrade on Smalling, and to this day I still feel he was/is. He may be slightly better with the ball, but the difference isn't as stark as the other attributes. They may be similar in the air, but I think Smalling pips him there, but in terms of speed, agility, one on one defending etc, Smalling is leagues above. Strange voice though...
I think in fairness to him, he was brilliant for Leicester, everyone wanted him and Given the 75m Liverpool paid for Van , it was always a case of the two being compared. One kicked on and Maguire didn’t.

I didn't like to be the one to say it but very fair

It's carefully curated forum opinion from negative opinions. I'm sure most are happy to get him. The way they leaked goals and play it has some logic to it. He will do better there.

Nice! lets convert it into euros to make it look bigger...that's what we do with any United transfer right?

€40.5 million euros is a fantastic price for Maguire. Congrats to the club.
1 billion Turkish Lira. Club can finally the debt off.

#ThankYouHarry

On a serious note, he had to go. It was simply too toxic for him here now, I hope he finds his feet again at west ham.

30m is a great deal for us IMO. He will also be good for them for 2-3 years and honestly, that is his level.

Personally, I think a fresh start would do him wonders. He'll be very good for West Ham, and offer Moyes the tactical flexibility to switch between a back four to back three. Watch West Ham defense to actually improve this season
