Madrid will come back for De Gea

Yes, but we weren't really good, in fact we scored more just after his injury.
Amazing, we have been so shite I really lost count. Ok, the two games against Cluj helped.

The two games against Brugge and the game against Liverpool. After that we did it again against Southampton, Everton and Sunderland.

Thanks. It really did unravel very quickly after that.

No surprise. It was nice we kept him but they were always going to come back eventually.

The good part is that we are going to get more money for DDG. The bad part, apart from losing our only top top player, is that we are going to pay more for Navas or whoever is going to replace him.

Never expected him to stay beyond this season anyway.

I have only ever thought we have DDG for this season only, Madrid will come in the summer for him , with a crap bid at first which we will reject but he will go in the end and I think very early in the window.
World record for a keeper is £47.5 million for Buffon and I would expect the fee we get to be close to that, anything £40m+ would be OK .

Just buy Mignolet.:nervous:

One more CB and at full strength goal and defense is set-up nicely for the future. Enough to worry about midfield and attack.

Going to be a really humbling feeling realising our one world class player is leaving, I've never seen a united team without one in it before.

If he does leave then we could do a lot worse than getting Butland in from Stoke. He's always been hugely impressive whenever I've seen him, seems to have that superior air about him.

Its not a buy out clause, that allows the player to pay their contract off effectively and then negotiate, the rumour is that its a release clause, because of English law as well we wouldnt have to legally accept it, its a gentlemens agreement effectively, it would be considered bad faith if we didnt uphold it but point stands we arent legally obliged even if the rumour is true... The next few months will be pivotal in the DDG saga..

With Keylor Navas turning into a fan favourite and playing a demon in goal, it would be extremely harsh on him. Also, Madrid fans have taken a liking to him as well. Perez would be a fool to spend money on De Gea so long as Navas is doing a brilliant job at Madrid.

I just assumed it was accepted he Would go this year

This. People got relaxed when he signed the contract. How can we forget he was ready to jump on that plane on transfer deadline day with Navas sweating on another plane waiting to fly the opposite way?

Where has this idea come from? Release clauses, or whatever term of art you want to use, are perfectly legal in the UK.

He was never going to stay. A Spanish player whose heart, and whose girlfriends heart, is set on playing in Spain, and is a top player, will end up playing in Spain.
Exactly, he will leave for 30-35m and we will get Navas for 15-20m. This will only make our rebuilding so much more difficult since he should be one of the players that we build our team around, together with Shaw, Smalling, Martial and Schneiderlin.

I doubt we'll get Navas, considering he didn't want to join us last time. We only included him in the deal last time because we needed a decent keeper and we wouldn't have had any time to get one in.

We should go for Butland.
Would be happy if we gambled on him. Excellent shot stopper. Stoke haven't conceded many goals but they seems to concede a load of chances. However, I don't watch enough of Stoke to know how good he really is.

Can't blame him this time around. Career wise staying with us is dire if things dont pick up fast enough, we might lose europa slot altogether at this rate. Playing for midtable stumbling giant isnt good enough if you're top 3 in the world

Who would begrudge him now? He will certainly want to be playing CL football.

We will be left with not one world class player in our team.

Without CL football it would be pretty hard to convince him to stay now. But yes it would be very harsh on Navas who has been excellent for Real Madrid.

I'm sure another team in the CL would decide to take him if for some reason Real decided not to.

He should go back to Atletico in a De Gea + £40 million swap deal for Oblak + Griezmann.

He gets to play with his childhood club in his home town alongside players he grew up with in Juvenil - Koke and Óliver, Saúl (1 class younger). He'll be entering at a good time for the club, and maybe he'll become a massive legend in 10 years, something that might not happen with the fickle bunch at Real. No one will begrudge him, not even United fans. If he goes to Real, Atletico fans will give him a ton of grief.
Atletico gets one of the 2 best goalkeepers in the world behind that impregnable defense (something Simeone is likely to appreciate), and £40 million to spend on other players. That's a good deal whichever way you look it.
United get one of the Top 7-8 keepers in the world (so not too big of a downgrade provided we strengthen the defense), and a world class forward to go with Martial. And £40 million is fair value because De Gea is probably worth £15-20 million more than Oblak, and Griezmann's clause is set at £55-60 million.
Sure Mendes will benefit from two of his clients changing clubs too, and his relationship will get stronger with both clubs for facilitating the deal.

Win-Win for everyone involved IMO, and Real get stuffed.

Apart from the Atletico fans are giving him a tonne of grief anyway, Atletico aren't going to find it easy to pay his wages and he's way more likely to win trophies at Real than Atletico.

I thought everyone just assumed this was the case anyway, no massive revelation there.
He was all set to go on deadline day and it only fell through for logistic/bureaucratic reasons. No reason to think he doesn't still want to go.

I don't think people would have been disappointed by Keylor Navas had that gone through.

Thats for sure. I hope we keep Navas. He is humble and a really nice guy which by itself is very valuable for us considering the state of our locker room when it comes to egos and opinions.
It's fine margins between Navas and De Gea so in case of straight swap, no one loses in the end.

Yes, but they'll come around in due time. He's one of their own, a Colchonero - or so he said he was. Anyway, a few good performances, some lip service, and that link to Real will be all but forgiven. Even Neuer got stick from Bayern fans initially, and he had no prior connections in Munich - but now they love him. For wages too, Mendes can work something out like he did in the past - and there's talk of the new improved broadcast deal, plus they'll move into Nuevo Estadio Atlético de Madrid. As for trophies, I wouldn't be too sure about Real to be honest. Atletico have performed almost as well as Real over the last 2-3 seasons, plus they have a former legend in Simeone who has stated multiple times that he is unlikely to move (despite speculation linking him to club XYZ), and a bunch of homegrown players (plus 3-4 top young talents) Real can't completely match. Atletico's future looks very bright right now, and if they can retain the core nucleus, that could sustain them over the next decade or so, especially when Real lose/ sell Ronaldo.

This is Real Madrid.

They fired Jupp Heyneckes 8 DAYS after he had won their first European cup in 32 years.

So no, Navas will be benched or sold.

If he goes there's no point in getting Navas as he never wanted to come here and I'm still not sure his game is suited to the particular demands of the PL. Butland is the obvious choice as a replacement, especially given how difficult it is to get worthy starting 11 English players.

Ddg doesnt just want to return to Spain, he wants to join Real .

I'm sure he is aware of the possible backlash, yet he still pushed through with the move. As someone who grew up in Madrid, he knew the significance of that and still went through with it.

Maybe so, but we haven't heard a statement to that effect from the man himself. Maybe Atletico and Barcelona just were't interested in him, so Real was the natural destination building up to the failed move. Thought if he had tunnel vision and wanted to join only Real, and no one else, then fair enough I guess. But if his motivation was to return back to Madrid to live with his girlfriend, and make a case for the Spanish national team, then Atletico would be as good of an option - plus he won't be a traitor to the blue collar fans of Atletico, and he won't be turning his back on the club that nurtured him.
