Finally getting round to watching this.

Halfway through season 3, and it's definitely some of the best TV I've ever watched. Please tell me it doesn't go to shit.
It really, really doesn't go to shit.

Good choice.

I miss it too. I'll rewatch it (for a third time) at some point this year I think.

I wish to rewatch the entire series at some point, just not sure when. The cinematography throughout is just amazing in subtle ways. Plus I love the 60s aesthetic myself.

I think this is the best show ever. Almost through with rewatching it once more. There simply. isn't anything about it that I don't like.

Sterling's Gold though  I wish that was a real book

Yeah it's a great show. So addictive.

Weiner's new show sounds promising.

Matthew Weiner Sets 'Mad Men' Reunion for Amazon Anthology 'The Romanoffs'

Matthew Weiner is getting some of the Mad Men gang back together.

The Emmy winner is set to reunite with 13 producers, writers, casting directors and costume designers from the acclaimed AMC drama for his forthcoming Amazon anthology The Romanoffs.

The Romanoffs is a contemporary series set around the globe, centering on separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family. The project will also star two Mad Men alums, Emmy nominees Christina Hendricks and John Slattery, as well as Isabelle Huppert, Marthe Keller, Aaron Eckhart, Jack Huston and Amanda Peet.

Yeah it would have been a fine ending (even though I like the actual one as well).

I miss Mad Men, might start it all over again sometime soon.

Rewatched the first two seasons. Betty is much more likeable and sympathetic than I remember. Don is far crueler. Duck was a great character, Colin Hanks' priest was a terrible one. Jon Hamm's micro-expressions are the best, especially his "what the feck" one. I wish Sal had stuck around longer, I think there was more they could've done with him.

I'm currently rewatching this, and I think it may have surpassed Sopranos as my second favourite show ever. It's just so well written and acted.

I think that's one of the beauties of the show.... each character develops so much across the decades

apart from Roger of course

On a second viewing it's now joint first for me along with Sopranos and the Wire. But I think some of the high points surpass them.

I just started watching season 6. This show is on some other level. It steers away from the cliche shit so effortlessly. Each episode is just great from start to finish.

Don Draper has to be one of the coolest motherf*ckers ever to grace the small screen. We were lucky to witness this wave of flawed protagonists like him, Tony Soprano, Walter White, McNulty, etc. all within a relatively short timespan.

Here's a good video, the entire story of Dick Whitman:

Just got thru the first season. Me and the missus are here wondering what the fcukin hype is. Yeah it's mildly interesting to see how things were but there are miles more entertaining things on TV.

Will continue as we're hoping it gets better. The only thing I've found compelling so far are Draper and his past but you literally only get a couple episodes based around it in the first season....

It's a brilliantly shot, excellently written, superbly acted period drama which managed to maintain its quality over 7 seasons.

Like everything though, if it's not your thing then fair enough.

Personally I loved it. The JFK assassination episode was incredible IMHO

It's definitely not for everybody. There's no violence, no action scenes. I'd say 90-95% of it is shot indoors, mostly in the offices of the company. My missus said she found that a bit claustrophobic.

I don't know if it's for me yet tbh. I don't hate it, I just hope I get to see more of the stuff that interested me. It's entirely possible I might end up thinking its one of the greatest shows ever, after all I've only seen 1/7 th of it.

Do we get to see more Draper back story? Or just other compelling stuff aside from the historically correct day to day shite?

The story is not going to get much more interesting than that. The show stays consistent with its style, throughout. You can summarize pretty much every episode in one sentence. The essence of the show is very much in the "how" it happened, not the "what".

I do think it gets slightly better, later on but if it doesn't "speak" to you, that won't change. I know it sounds pretentious and I wouldn't say that for any other show but Mad Men is just different. There are better episodes in the next seasons but you should've found "The Wheel" amazing.

That was one of the episodes I was talking about. If there's more like that then I'll keep watching.

It's a show where it feels like nothing ever happens, yet its one of the best shows I've ever seen. It's really hard to put why it's so good into words, but as others have said if you didn't get "it" in the first season you probably won't be too keen. I can definitely see why people would dislike this show though.

I started fully enjoying it after second season, until then I was in love with Becky so I kept on going for probably that reason alone. It's a great show. Season 4 or 5 are some of the best stuff I've ever seen .

Yep and the moon landing one

I'd definitely say it takes a bit of time to get into. At the beginning it's just a lot of random people doing random things, it's only when you understand and know the characters a bit better that you can fully appreciate and enjoy the show. It was similar for me (and lots of other people) with The Wire. When the writers don't want to use action scenes and cliffhangers to draw you in it can sometimes take a while to get hooked - though in my case that happened long before the season ending and by then you "feel" nothing then I'm not sure that's going to change later - maybe it just isn't the right show for you at this point.

This is the most re-watchable series for me. There are some characters and storylines, like Colin Hanks as a priest or Bettty's second marriage that I couldn't care less but overall, it's a brilliant show, full of atmosphere.

I remember watching it for the first time and thinking what the feck is this, it's not going anywhere fast. Then a year or two later I gave it another chance and got hooked.

To me, it's a testament of how well this was written and how great the actors did their jobs that it's so watchable despite not relying on sex, violence, chases, fights or some superhero stuff to attract an audience. It's just life stories of several people, brilliantly told.
