We're undoubtedly in a shit situation now, but get the next big decision wrong and we could be fecked for decades to come. I hope Ed gets this right.

Would like to see Giggs go out and get managerial experience outside United. He's some way behind Mark Hughes, for example, on my list of next managers.

Christ. You must really not want Giggs then.

Don't see what's so outrageous about that. Hughes isn't good enough to be our next manager, but he's a decent manager with a reliable track record at a number of clubs, and is certainly a lot more qualified for such a position than Giggs.

It's written for Koeman to get him sacked and Mourinho to take over. Don't feck with the script Eddy.

When do we play Southampton next?

I agree. Giggs is no more qualified for the job than any other ex player. Hughes has decent experience and what's more Giggs is hardly covering himself in glory as assistant to van Gaal.

Where does the Mirror get all these stories from? Do they just sit around making up stuff? Why would any sane board member be worried if Giggs quits? Should we be held ransom by someone who has no managerial experience just because he's a former player? I've never heard such nonsense.
Are the Glazers really worried about that when we're in such a bad way?

I hope Ryan is not unsettling things further behind the scenes trying to push this unrealistic ambition. I know he's selfish but this really is not the time for any more drama.

Unbelievably strange decision makers at our club:confused:

You seriously want Hughes at United?
One manager with experience and has done a good job at Blackburn and Stoke...the other has done nothing. Of course both shouldn't be near the job but if I had to pick one it would be easily Hughes.

How do you know? Based on what?
Based on his managerial record. He's doing ok with Stoke and that's his level. Let's not rush into another Moyes appointment just because things are bad right now. We should be aiming for the best we can get and Hughes comes nowhere near that.

Hopefully the choice isn't between those two.

I don't know how you can know that... Hughes is right up there for me - far above Giggs and I'd even put him above Pochetino and Koeman. Can't think, aside from Mourinho, who else is available that is so vastly better qualified.

What makes you think he is qualified to manage United? Forget Giggs, I agree he shouldn't be manager, at least not in the immediate future but Hughes never ever should be considered. Unless we want to cement our position as a mid/table club.

I actually can't believe he isn't gone. The fans are far more pissed off now under Moyes, and we are looking worse every passing week. The man himself has come out and said he has failed and for someone so sure in his own ability to be so defeatist, he won't be turning this around soon. It's remarkable. It has to be ended soon. There is more and more rumours every day and that can't be great inside the club either. It is such an easy decision and so logical that everybody in football can see it's the right thing to do apart from our fecking board.

Maybe the fans need to start chanting "Woodward out" then perhaps we might see things happen.

Big club experience - he's been at City and will have learned from his mistakes there. He's also done a really good job with Stoke. What has Giggs done apart from being in the backroom staff of two disastrous reigns?

I saw on the Twitter feed that the Guardian says he's being reviewed game by game now. I think that's a reflection on how many times he's been "one game away" from the sack; they (the Guardian as I think they're just speculating) have basically just decided that all the games are now decisive ones. If that's true, we should be glad because then this whole thing will be wrapped up within a week.

Continued mediocrity won't get him out (hasn't yet) - sadly, a severe, embarassing loss or two is the only way Woody's hand will be forced. The loss to Stoke at home felt like that type of game but here we are 1 month later. Either that or total mutiny by the fans during a match, which I could never see happening. Otherwise, he'll see the top 4 hunt out and that will be the end regardless.

Whatever the reason he is still at the helm, it would sure make one hell of a documentary someday. I'm sure someone will put it in a book. Former staff, player, or coach.

The whole club is an iceberg, and VG is the tip of the iceberg, because below water level is terrifying

The people behind the scenes are a joke, and everyone is here for nothing but themselves. And it surprises me how anyone wants to even turn up to watch this garbage that this senile old man shows us every week. yes support your club through thick and thin, but when the club is basically taking the piss out of the fans, not doing they're job right, but taking money and not giving back in return. It's amazing how people can make a fortune by doing a bad job

Trying to remember what van Gaal's contract details that were revealed.

Flat 3 years. No stipulation about finishing 4th. I'm not aware of whatever other conditions there may be. So I feel sure this guy is here until season end at least.

Next. Perhaps Mourinho. Or Giggs next season.

if that was the case then van gaal would have been sacked after southampton at the latest.

and why wait until 1 game to be sacked if he's on the verge of being sacked anyways? it's just wasting time at this point.

The guardian report is bullshit. The board has a season and a half of results and data to assess and to decide whether to keep him or not. They're not going to sit there and wait for the next game to reveal some sort of sign whether to keep him or sack him.

He's still in the job because the board hasn't decided what the best option post-LvG, mid-season, is.

Why would any sane board member be worried if Giggs quits?

You know I think that is a great question, I really do. It got me thinking does it merit its own thread and not for another Giggs bashing session but instead to debate what exactly the bigger picture is involving Giggs. A few thought starters:

1. Giggs knows where the bodies are buried. He's been an insider for so long at the club that alienating him leaves all manner of folk exposed. Maybe an exiled Ryan Giggs would do more damage to the club than we realise. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer and all that?

2. Giggs has powerful friends (and I'm not JUST talking about the class of 92). The appointment of Neville at Valencia. The pulling power of Beckham as a 'brand' at top tables globally. The fact a bunch of our ex-players can build a multi-story hotel opposite the ground. All of this is a threat to United's top brass. Just think what would be possible if a class of 92 based takeover (backed by an overseas investor) became a reality. The Glazers know the fans would tear the stadium down for this if spun correctly. Again, keep your enemies close.

3. Giggs is a huge part of 'the brand'. Let's not forget, Woodward clearly understands how this marketing business works. Let's just say the long term Glazer plan is to sell on. Brand equity is a subtle thing but it involves a delicate balance of the consumer's' rational and emotional connection with said brand. Rationally many of us can't see how Giggs as manager will work but emotionally there are thousands (if not millions) that want that fairytale to come true. This is part of our 'brand's equity'. In fact Giggs is quickly becoming the last emotional link with our most glorious period. Keep your friends close in this case.

4. Lastly if Giggs quits in the wake of LVG sacking that essentially throws the club to the wolves. By that I mean we lose all bargaining power with a new appointment. Mendes will have us over a barrel if we approach Jose. Pep already had us there with the way he has played first Barca, Bayern and now City/United. In that context the decision is clear. Keep your friend, Giggs, close.

Just a few thought starters in answer to the question beguiling most supporters. Interested in others views...
