Luke Shaw: "open" to signing a new contract

We spent time, money and effort getting Fernandez from Real Madrid, he’s shown great promise and is 19. Play him ffs. Luke Shaw was 17 when he made his prem debut after all, it’s not unheard of.

He's making noise that he might be unhappy, but he's doing us a favor. Just keeping letting this players out themselves so we can move them on, we don't need those kind of personalities at the club.

We are not run like a normal club. In most clubs, even top players get a bollocking if they go to media about how sad they are at the club. At our club, we cave in and give them new contracts.

Yeah I agree. He’s shown enough to warrant a chance in the first team. Hopefully we will see him before the season is out. Can’t do any worse than shaw

Hopefully Shaw does not entertain signing a new contract.

Well actually you can as we have seen every time Telles or god forbid Dalot replaces him on the left. I would be very much in favour of giving Fernandes a couple of games now but lets not kid ourselves that we can replace Shaw in the short term without going out and signing someone.

I think telles is better personally. Just because hes mobile and has no glaring weaknesses.

Telles is seriously slow though and gets bullied defensively. I think next to Shaw he is the best FB at the club though as it is a pretty low bar to clear and I would be quite happy to try him on the right with Shaw on the left and bin off AWB and Dalot.

Cant believe this guy will have lasted 8 years at United come the summer.

His booking summed him up, no positional awareness, no reading of the game and now, not enough recovery pace to make up for lacking in the rest.

He'll be our next expensive mistake in offering a new deal with more in wages.

I'm "open" to letting Shaw go. Resigning him on massive terms could be a giant mistake a year or so down the line if he continues in the vein that history suggests is likely. He's had what, one or two eye catching seasons since he was 17/18? How do we shift him if he keeps playing like this after putting a 5 year deal in front of him?

At the moment we have 2 largely unimpressive left backs and overall 4 largely unimpressive full back options. We should be scouring every inch of the market and keeping our options open. We won't be able to replace everyone but I don't see what the advantage is in signing Shaw up. Put a contract in front of him next year if he deserves it and in the meantime ear mark left back as another fragility.

Absolute liability who an ambitious club would just get rid off. But at United he is treated like second coming of Roberto Carlos.

We should be open to selling him. Rewarding him and Rashford with new contract will send out signal that contracts are not awarded on form but just on name basis. Luke Shaw had a horrible season and these contract talks are a joke at the moment

His contract still runs for till summer 2023 with an option for another year. Why are we so eager to offer him a new contract?

Unless his form improves under a new manager, we should just sell him or let the contract runs out. Giving new contracts to protect resale value has worked out brilliantly so far.

His wages are already way above his value. I'd hope a new manager is hired before he gets a wage bump.

Luke had one good season but he has played too
many where he has not been good enough. We should sell him, let Telles play and get some youngster as a sub/understudy

Average player. But hey this is united he'll be offered a new 5 year deal.

Can’t get given a new contract, can’t keep rewarding mediocrity but he’ll inevitably get a new 5 year deal on £200k a week at some point over next 12 months.

One thing I'm sure about is a that the club will surely not entertain keeping Shaw how many times can we keep offering new contracts to players who are just not good enough

You are being sarcastic, right? :) Offering contracts to players not good enough has been our DNA for the last 9 years :)
