I cannot recall any other PL player completely nullifying Mohammad Salah the way Luke Shaw did this afternoon.

His best defensive performance since signing for the club.
Young did it last season to be fair. I fancied Shaw to have a good game against Salah as he's quick enough to deal with one on ones.
Young did! Back when he first returned to the team and actually looked well, before regressing a lot.

same here. he's quick but doesn't use it enough to be fullback unless it's a recovery run. The transition to centre half is very possible. good upper body strength and very solid tackling with decent first touch.Reckon he should just become a centre half personally. His game is more suited to that than being a full back. Defended very well today, and often does. Could be a monster of an LCB, but doesn’t have the quality to be a top full back I don’t think.
I don't think he's under appreciated defensively. It's going forward where the issue is currently. If he can offer more going forward against teams that park the bus against us, then he will be appreciated by all. He’s been defensively excellent this season. He’s so under appreciated on here for some reason.

Of course there's unwarranted criticism but a Manchester United fullback in the modern game has to contribute in attack. There's no question he's brilliant defensively and I've stated that on her before. But his issues have been against teams where the onus is on us to take the game to them. I'm still hopeful he can come good in that regard, because he did show glimpses under LVG before his leg break that he could.I think if you read back through this thread you will see plenty of unwarranted criticism. He does need to improve going forward but he’s defensively solid which is more important.
Not sure about the Motm today. He was very good defensively but offered nothing going forward. It seems the caf voters are heavily influenced by Gary Neville.

The funny thing is, Luke has been so many times slated on here about how inferior he is to the supposedly best LB in the league in Robertson, even compared to someone like Chilwell, yet today he showed why he should be more appreciated by our own fans. He's among the best LBs in the league, his strengths just lie elsewhere, compared to Robertson for example.
If he can add a threat going forward, then we will have a monster fullback. It’s funny, when he broke onto the scene at Southampton he was definitely a more attacking player. I do agree that he needs to do more going forward but for us a club, I imagine our next manager whether it’s Ole or not, will work on this with him. Let’s hope it’s more a case that he’s been Mourinho’d.
Yes he was, better. I actually rate Robertson and think he is a very good player in his own right, so is Shaw.He was miles better than Robertson who looked uncomfortable all afternoon and was dire in possession. Another overrated Liverpool player.
Absolute defensive clinic from him today, my MOTM by some margin. Just don't get those people saying we need an upgrade on LB as well considering Shaw has been one of our best performers this thus far.
Brilliant defensively again today and was the best defender in the back line by a country mile.
He took one of the best attackers in the EPL out of the game and pocketed him for large parts. Our CBs didn't have to do much apart from regulation defending which I expect Manchester United defenders to do. Maybe my expectations are too high, but Shaw taking their best player out nullified their attack and made it much easier for the rest.No way was he the best by a country mile ! Lindelof and Smalling ran him close.
