When is the best game to start him in? If not against a Championship team. Jose doesnt like him. It is a personal thing.
did you not read the comments from Jose? He's a player who's had an aweful injury, very bad. I need players i can trust. People forget he's only 21 still. He won't leave United this summer!

We have no idea what Jose is doing behind the scenes with him. Perhaps he's even told him he's not going to play this season but instead work on his defensive errors but he's 100% in his plans for next season.

What Jose wants is men. He wants players who have will and determination, so that despite how tired they are, they will keep working and doing what he tells them to do. I dont think Shaw is quite reaching the standard yet, but he will eventually.

I think he would have got minutes today if the game wasnt as close as it was. If we were winning 3-0, I wouldnt have been surprised if he was eased in with about 30 minutes.

I do think giving him minutes on Wednesday would be ideal though.

Is it you, Donald?

People are forgetting the comments from Jose on the matter. As frustrating as it is to see Darmian ahead of him, i'm convinced he'll be back and look as threatening as Martial and Mkhitaryan have been after their treatments.

The mental part of recovering from such a traumatical and career threatening is something that demands time and patience.

Not sure how Darmian has Jose's trust over him at this point but, hopefully at some point he will get it because we really could use someone of Shaw's ability to bring balance to the left side. Really thought he would start today. Not sure when he'll get a game now with the next round being against Chelsea.

Gutted for him. To be so good and not get a chance in a match like that, especially after that horrific injury it must be tough. No wonder depression crept in.

Just shows that Mourinho is taking no risks, even with the return leg. Shaw will find it difficult to get game time now given that every game is critical.

For me it's very much a patient game he needs to play now and his priority should be to make sure he's fit and ready for the pre-season going into the next season.

If he's not playing in this type of game then it really is tough seeing him get a chance this season. We basically only have important games until the end. Maybe against some lowly side at OT.

Getting the full Mhkitaryan treatment now. Seems as though Jose only released him in exchange for another prisoner. You brave boy Luke.

Its a shame, when is he going to get a game? Happy that Mourinho has come out and said he wont be sold but this is worrying.

Not sure I'd read much into it. He was asked whether Shaw would be sold directly. He'd hardly say in a conference that Shaw would be sold due to not being good enough.

Not playing vs Blackburn says it all. Was his best chance of a game before the end of the season.

Nah, don't worry, guys, Jose is just holding him back for next season.

Whilst obviously not some cunning plan to motivate Shaw to hit unprecedented heights it's not outrageous to suggest that Mourinho rates him as a player but thinks he has a long way to go to get over such a traumatic injury. Which is basically what he said in the most recent press conference.

It's also what seems to be the reality here, judging by Shaw's very poor performances when picked this season compared to how well he played in the games leading up to his leg break. If the issue is primarily psychological then a longish stint out of the spotlight is no bad thing. Every time he is picked and plays badly it's only going to mess with his head even more.

Let's not forget that when Aaron Ramsey started playing competitive football after his injury he wasn't even made part of the Arsenal squad, he was struggling for games on loan at Nottingham Forest, then Cardiff.

I more than expected him to play against Blackburn and in the 2nd leg. A bit gutted to be honest, but not surprised.

why why the hell? seems like the same situation as with Micky, try to ease him in an easy game it seems, but it's painful to watch horrible and average players in Darmian and Blind getting games when he could easily outplay them even out of form/confidence

Ramsey injury 27th Feb 2010 - Shaw injury 15th Sept 2015

Return (Forest) 29th Nov 2010 (9 months later) - 2 starts 3 sub, followed by 6 starts for Cardiff - Shaw return 14th Aug 2015 (11 months) plays 5 PL matches in a row then dropped due to poor form

Return (Arsenal) starting matches 1st May 2010 (1 year 2 months), had been sub for Arsenal in mid March. - Shaw 1 more PL start and 5 starts in EL and League Cup during spell up until Christmas, also some injuries.

Start of following season Arsenal first team regular (1 year 6 months) - Shaw's situation after 1 year 5 months, been fit for over 1 month, in which time 1 start in FA cup.

Ramsey's timeline has a natural progression to it, in that he returned at a lower level, then got starts at a lower level, then got starts for Arsenal, then was a first team regular for Arsenal.

I have no idea what point you're trying to push with the above @kundalini ? I mean, it appears to tie in with what @Pogue Mahone posted by I get the feeling you're making a different point?

(Also, fwiw, Shaw's return was 16th July 2016, the timing of his return being pre-season stretched it out a little.)

Well, exactly. Shaw's been thrown in at the deep end and has obviously struggled. A short term loan to a lower league team for match fitness might have been good for him. And might still be the best way forward. Time will tell.

Nit-picking about precise timeline for first team return is silly. Different players. Different injuries. Either way, you can see it's taken both of them a hell of a long time to get back to being good enough to play regular PL football.

Pogue mentioned Ramsey's injury so I went to Transfermarkt to see how long Ramsey was out injured for. How long he played on loan and the time he was back as an Arsenal first team regular. Then I compared it to Shaw's timeline.

It did indeed. However, he didn't give the length of time involved and I for one, couldn't remember how long Ramsey had been out for, or how long he spent on loan. Perhaps you could ?

No, I had no idea so the stats were certainly really helpful, I just got the feeling you were pushing a different point and couldn't work out what. My bad :wenger:.

Some people really do seem to forget what a horrific injury it was when judging both manager & player here. Seems much smarter to keep Shaw out of the limelight now, keep him training and fit and let him enjoy a full pre-season with the players without the added pressure.

No, it seems like the same situation as BERTRAND, not Mkhi.

Shaw is obviously better than Rojo and Darmian at left back, played the Wiggan game and did ok...yet hasn't seen the field since then.

I'm going to agree that Luke Shaw "should" be getting playing time. But he's not. And it's not because of his fricken horrible injury. If he can't play more than 1 game in two months due to his injury then Manchester United better be looking at another left back this summer. The position is a bigger need than Right Back which can be played by Valencia, Bailly and Timbo (even though Timbo is a CDM)

can you tell me what's the Bertrand situation? What more do you know about Shaw situation than other ppl here, you must have some insideinfo that you're so certain about it... There were a lot of smartasses here who claimed that Mourinho doesn't rate Mhkitaryan or Martial and he wants to sell them, which is obviously bullshit, the treatment needed to be applied for some players to get used to the work with the current manager in order to perform according to his ideas and to his standards, and it worked in the end...

So I am asking again what do you know? what can be very different to what you reckon btw

Getting the Mkhirtial treatment.

Let's hope he comes out on top, if he doesn't then he shouldn't be here.

This would be a very shit discussion forum if we all discussed nothing but facts.

"Cantona scored in the cup final once." "Indeed he did." *THREAD LOCKED"

at least express your opinion and don't make it sound like it's the only true
