Lukaku to Chelsea? €100m bid + player rejected

You're right Lukaku will score a lot of goals for Chelsea however he only got 16 for us in the league which was significantly less than he got for Everton the year before. Also comparing him to Zlatan who missed the last couple of months through injury isn't exactly fair

I think much better is a stretch. Was intrigued to watch him again in the euros and he seemed like the same player I wanted rid of when he was here - just a bit fitter.

Lukaku looks better balanced at Inter than at ManUtd, his hold up play looked improved too. Also playing alongside striker will help CF with their hold up play as Lukaku and Lautaro played close to each other. So Conte knew how to make good use of him.

When it comes to goal scoring record, his record is not much better than it was for ManUtd. Only difference is, he takes penalties now. For us he took one penalty and missed it, he was never given penalties after that. For Inter he took all the penalties.

Comparing his Inter and ManUtd record, there isn't much when it comes to goals from open play.

167 mins per goal for Inter, 178 mins per goal for ManUtd.

His overall game looked better though, at least compared to the shit show of 2018-19 season. He looked better balanced player.

If Lukaku is going for more than 100m, of course Levy would be crazy to sell Kane at that price.

How anyone can spend that on effing Lukaku I don't know.

Did he improve in Italy, of couse, he's way better than the player we had. But the game in Italy is way slower than the PL and that suited him and covered his lack of technical abilities.

It's a desperate move I think. Haaland is not available, Kane will never go to Chelsea, so Lukaku is the only one they can go for and being the mercenary that he is, he wouldn't think twice about leaving.

Where were the other games? His previous (before THAT match) attempt at trying to nullify Hazard got him sent off after just after half an hour.
What a ridiculous decision that was. Persistent team fouling or some nonsense like that. Never to be enforced before or after that match ever again.

I watched him a few times for inter last season and it was the same old lukaku for me. Remember watching the roma game which featured smalling, mhiki, lukaku and young. Young was the best of the lot on the day despite only playing an hour. Serie A really isnt much cop, even its biggest fan would rank it third in Europe and personally I'd have it behind the bundesliga too

There is a value to having a player who can beat up the little teams, if they can show the kind of defensive form they did back end of last season they'll be a solid bet for top 4

It's not a signing that wins them the league though and I wouldn't for a second want him anywhere near our team again, he's frustration personified

Yeah, I won't disagree he is a better player now than he was with us. I just don't think the improvement changes my opinion of his style and the improvement looks to be him being able to control his body a bit better and not looked shagged after his first sprint.

Yeah I agree. He has improved, various factors helped him like playing in 2 striker system, bit inferior league, better manager and finally getting in shape.

Chelsea are overpaying, as per Di Marzio, he will be paid 12 million net which will make him highest paid player in the league. On top of that, 120 million, that's a huge investment.

Btw @GifLord will be the most hated posters for Chelsea fans this season. Get ready for the videos :D

I once requested a clip of something Lukaku did that looked really funny. Good times. I'll probably put him on ignore two weeks into the season.

You can request now also, more often than not he will always post videos when requested.

I'm not likely to request funny looking clips of Lukaku pal. Those days are over for me

This potential transfer really highlights the shortage of good number 9s who could get into top teams. Lukaku has that ability to score many goals, but as we all know can go missing very often in the very big games. In the 90s/00s and even 10 years ago I think he would have struggled to get anywhere near a top 4 EPL team.

Yeah, they are lucky they've been able to raise a lot of it from the merry-go-round of Lukaku likely to be replaced by Zapata and Zapata to be likely replaced by Abraham - who cost them nothing.

Unlike many here, i rate Lukaku a lot. And it was huge mistake to let him go. But i don't understand logic in this 130mil fee. Why not throw 20 mil more (if you have 130mil for one player, you have 150 mil too) and sign Kane or Haaland?

Pretty sure they’ve been trying for Haaland for quite a while so this suggests that they failed to make a deal. Also getting Kane is hard enough for City at the moment, let alone for a London Rival. I doubt Lukaku was ever the first choice.

Those two are a hell of a lot more difficult to get. You have to deal with Raiola to get Haaland and there's no way Levy sells Kane to another London team.

Not sure whether this Twitter thread was posted or not. Could be very good indeed for United.

If that's true, United could threaten to take Inter to court for the lump sum if they sell to Chelsea.

Can someone explain this? If inter owe us close to 50M and they sell to Chelsea, would we get 50M from whatever Inter get from Chelsea? Or would it end up in court?

It was explained in an article yesterday that Inter will have the same loan schedule payments as agreed in the contract when they bought him. It also said that there was an amended schedule that was agreed to by both clubs during Covid. It said that Inter will not pay all the money at one time and staying with the selling contract schedule even when a player is sold is standard practice.

I'm sure someone else can explain it better, but the tweets seem to indicate that if Inter sell Lukaku, they will then owe us about £50m (including what they already owed us + the sell on fee) and that if United want to "get Legal" they can take it to Court to demand it as a lump sum, which would be disastrous for Inter due to their debts. However, it's more likely that Inter and Man Utd would just negotiate an installment payment plan. Probably important to keep good relations with other teams.

I'm pretty sure it won't change anything regarding when we receive the money, we will just get slightly more than we thought.

Seems like Inter owe money left, right and centre. Apparently they owe an amount to Chelsea too.

Surely this is a bigger cock-up for Chelsea than us with Pogba?

Even more so because they initially deemed him not good enough.

How have you come to that conclusion? We got £28m for Lukaku. Utd got nothing for Pogba.

We brought in Diego Costa (A better striker at the time) that summer and he played a huge part in 2 PL title wins.

We bought him for £15 mil then sold him for a £28 mil. Now we're going to buy him back for £110 mil.

You signed Pogba for nothing, lost him for nothing then signed him again for £89 mil.

There's not much in it from a financial standpoint.

130m for lukaku? 100m for grealish? Did i miss the governement and bank of england devaluing the pound sterling or something? What on earth

Because it's not 20m more, it's more like 60/70m more, plus another 15/20 mil more in wages per year...

That's literally a Kounde of difference

I played football with a team of Inter fans last night, they can't wait to get rid of him now. Same with work colleagues.

It seems they liked his goals but the idea of 100m+ to spend on other players reminded them of how poor he was every time they faced a decent team aka Juventus.
