according to italian transfer muppet site calciomercato.com, nani's brother is in Milan trying to find a club for his brother after failure to reach an agreement for a new contract

Not good news that. Doesn't do to sell your best players. Mind you. I suppose Fergie has to get some money for new players from somewhere. Berb and Owen are both free agents and Park won't fetch much.

I think its probably pretty standard to go out looking for a backup plan and to see what you are worth. I wouldnt be too concerned about it.

This goes on all the time and you never hear about it. Agents have nothing else to do all day but this sort of thing.

I hope we can agree a long-term deal with him, we can't afford to lose a player of his qualities.

I think Fergie would be happy to sacrafice Nani if it meant freeing up fund to buy a world class central midfielder or to strengthen in other areas. Welbeck can play on the right wing and maybe Brady could be a squad player for cover on the wings for next season too!
Nani is world class but I dont think Fergie will ever rate him higher than Valencia and its on the right wing where he is most effective!

I think that Nani will remain - most probably its a case of both parties trying get the best deal. He wont find a much better deal than the 130,000 that we allegedly offered, elsewhere.
However, you cannot rule out anything.

Even when Ronaldo was here, a lot of criticism was "oh he doesn't track back"... there's a good reason for that though.

When Ronaldo had one of his spastic days, you could expect him to simply stop and sulk after losing the ball. Which was pathetic.

Nani doesn't do that. He doesn't come back to his own half as often as Valencia but branding him lazy and "defensively suspect" would be stupid. And yes, it's Evra who should get his act together in defending.

Nani is our second most talented player and yet this is how we deal with his contract negotiations.

Call me synical but reading between the lines we are going to offer him a poor contract (comparatively speaking) that he will refuse/not sign immediately, so then we can cash in on him.

Still just as long as we keep hold of the old guard, work horses and defenders that can't actually defend.

Have you even bothered to read the article before making that judgement. According to that article we are gonna offer him 130k per week, I don't think that's poor.

Call me cynical, but reading between the line, I'm convinced you are an idiot.

Are you saying that 130K per week is a "poor contract"? I dont think so.

130K is obviously very good but this is the problem the increased wage Rooney has given us. If he is as reported on £250K a week then for people like Nani whilst they might not ask for that much, will they be happy on say £100K less? Rooney is better, but is he 100K better? Hopefully everything will work out fine, we've not heard too many stories on this issue.

is 250k confirmed? I honestly think that is too much for Rooney, as good as he is. Would be surprised if it was more than 200k.

I thought Rooney was on around £185k a week?

Would be good if he is, from the reports I've seen it's usually around the £200-250K mark, obviously none of us know for certain but I wouldn't be surprised if he was.

Nobody (outside the club and Rooney's entourage) knows what Rooney's wages are.

Not that that stands in the way of people acting like they do.

Nah not confirmed, well as far as I know, just the figure I've seen in the papers. I seem to remember £185K was the figure we were reportedly offering and £250K was what he wanted. By the sounds of it we caved so whilst he might not be on to 250K I would expect him to be on 200K+.

That's insane, just the way it is now I suppose.

Yep and if he's on that the other players who are also top performers without being at Rooneys level will expect to be near that, well I would think anyway. But that's just the way football has gone. Because other clubs are paying their top players so much, or enticing people on such high wages it means that other clubs have to rise their wages.

Hopefully though with FFP looking to be a serious policy it'll reign in the high spending clubs. The only way wages are going to get under control is if the majority of the clubs, particularly the larger ones reign in what they're offering. Players can only make demands when they have somewhere they can go and get better.

£250k...some people will believe anything! France football release an article of the top earners every year and they had him at £8m per year, significantly lower than £250k. The people who report that figure are people like the Sun. Why believe them if you're going to believe any of the papers?!

It's not just about 100k a week better.

Rooney is Englands best player and big marketing pull. He is worth more to club than anyone since beckham.

I can understand Nani wanting the best deal but he has always appeared a class act to me and I hope he signs.

I don't know the details so I won't try and argue to much on this but I thought that on top of the wage the players get they get additional money from imaging, shirt sales etc which is where Rooney's marketing pull would come in?

I hope that's true, I never said the figure was a definite just what was going around and if it was true then you could understand why Nani or some of the other big players would hold out for more.

Next to no chance that Rooney is anywhere near the 200k a week mark - not in wages from this club anyway (sponsorships and the like obviously are a different matter).

Nani at £130k would almost certainly be on less than Rooney but I can't see anyone else coming close to that (if Rio is accepting a pay cut, and the Young rumours are as bollocks as they appear).

He absolutely is on £200k pw

Nani should get around 130-150k pw in fair market rate

I doubt United pay him £250k per week and image rights.

The Company financials are bad enough. I know he earns further income from sponsors but not more from United.

Well that's where maybe the imaging rights make it up. So could be say 180-200k salary and then the rest is made up from marketing. But anyway i'm not trying to claim he is, just what some reports have suggested and if they are right then you can understand nani wanting more. If he is on closer to 150K which I hope he is, then Nani's apparent offer would be good.
