Nani has played 7 matches this season so far. He was great against City in the Charity Shield, then was fairly quiet in his first three league games. Then he's been fantastic again in his last 3 games.

Young was great in the first three league matches, then relatively quiet in the following two (he didn't play in the CL if I remember correctly). Can't remember if he played in the CC, I'm guessing he did but have no idea how well he did.

So it's been fairly even so far, with it being notable that so far they haven't been fantastic at the same time yet. On the other side of the coin, every match we've played we've had one of them playing brilliantly (until Leeds yesterday when neither played).

Benfica actually :p (subs don't count!)

Hmm, for some reason I thought Nani played in that and was excellent. Which means my numbers must be out somehow for Nani. I was certain he had a great Charity Shield, then three fairly quiet matches followed by now having three great matches. But if he didn't start in the CL or the CC then I've got one too many matches there.

It's finally here!

I'll advise to have lubricant ready for this one.

Shout out to antoozvidic.

Cole got bummed. And for once, I don't think he would've enjoyed it.

After watching the video, I have a question for the laws of the game gurus. Supposedly there really isn't a last man ruling as such but, the rule is for stopping a clear goal scoring opportunity - that being a red card. When Nani was brought down, he would have had a clear goal scoring opportunity, Terry was on the other side and no way would he have close down Nani by the time he got his shot off, so shouldn't Bosingwa have been sent off?

Love this guy!

Manchester United forward Nani targets a position among the world's elite
Nani, who has been in sparkling form for Manchester United this season, insists there is much more to come.

Although it ultimately ended in disappointment, when he was left out of Sir Alex Ferguson's starting line-up for the Champions League final defeat to Barcelona, Nani felt he moved his game onto another level last term.
The reason seemed obvious. Antonio Valencia's lengthy absence with an ankle injury allowed Nani to switch onto his preferred right-wing, from where he produced a series of devastating performances, ending the season with more Premier League assists than anyone else.
"Last year was my best year, definitely my most consistent season," the Portugal wide-man told Inside United.
"Now I hope this is my year. I will do my best.
"If I am fit for every game, I am 100 per cent sure I will do my best and will do well for my team.

"This is a big chance to show I can do much more; that I'm a good player with a very strong mentality."
Nani has started in blistering form, scoring twice in the Community Shield, including the last-minute winner against Manchester City as United roared back from two goals down.
He then bagged his first league goal of the campaign in that annihilation of Arsenal, before firing in an excellent first-half effort in last weekend's victory over Chelsea.
Nani will hope to maintain that form against Stoke tomorrow evening, aided by the arrival of Ashley Young, whose preference for playing on the left has again released the 24-year-old onto the opposite flank.
It is only a couple of years ago that Nani appeared to have no future at Manchester United.
Certainly any claim of wanting to be the world's best would have been greeted with laughter.
Now, although he is still adrift of Lionel Messi and former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, it is not quite so far-fetched.
"That's one dream I've got: to be the best in the world," he said.
"But I don't let it frustrate me. I have other priorities like winning trophies with the team.
"Hopefully, when I have finished playing football, people will say 'Nani was a fantastic player who won a lot of titles and beat records at the club'.
"I know I have the condition to be among the select best players in the world but I have to work hard and show that."

You are probably right about Terry, but tbf to the ref all he would have probably noticed was that a foul had been committed and that there was a covering defender somewhere close by.

It would probably be asking a bit much to expect him to spot the penalty as well as the exact whereabouts of other players too.

With the benefit of replay you are right though, strictly speaking once the foul was acknowledged, it's hard to argue Bosingwa didn't deny a clear goalscoring opportunity to Nani, so he should have gone for me.

Any thoughts on Ashley Young's start to his United career?

He's been brilliant so far imo. Knew he'd be good and add to our 1st team because he's better on the left than anything we had, but still did not see him make such a huge impact. Plays as if he's been here all along.

A Very productive player. be it assists or goals. Puts in some wonderful crosses from FKs which we lacked earlier. Him on the left and nani on the right is cheating

Like Varun says, Young looks like he's been with us for years, it's amazing the way he's just dropped into the side and settled immediately. He looks like he's stepped his game up which is to be expected to a degree but some of his performances have been fantastic. The Arsenal game in particular was great, let's hope he bangs a few more of them long range goals in, they were

Not sure why it's here but, he's been very good. Maybe faded in the last few games but he never seems to lose the ball, works really hard and most importantly can play well on the left hand side. Great signing, most expected him to fit in well here but not THAT well that quickly.

Thing is, Young and Nani have rarely been excellent in games at the same time, one has outshone the other and that seems to be because there's an emphasis on getting the ball out to one more than the other from the players, depending on which one is ripping their man to shreds more. It's fecking awesome.

Nani just has that attitude of being a world beater imo. It's just that class of never knowing what he's going to do, the talent of changing a game in a few seconds.

Think he's determined to make a CL Final start this year

Nobody laughs about Nani now, what a seriously good player he is and he produces big match performances against big teams. City, Arsenal and Chelsea this season already. He has his frustrating moments but I am happy to live with that for what we get in return. He seems very well grounded too, very serious about his career.

What a cross for Giggs. I can't believe we wasted that chance.

Magical player. The goal was breathtakingly good and the cross for the Giggs chance was brilliant. Oh Giggsy :(

He is world class. Also loved how he taunted the Stoke fans at one point.

Thought it was interesting that he still needed that mini-bollocking from Sir Alex to just get the ball in the box, and then he does and he plays it inch perfect to Giggsy. Still likes to fanny about from time to time. Was a huge threat all the same, expect him to give Iceland a battering and be in full flight in time for the game at Anfield.

I thought he was mostly really good today but as the game got tighter he seemed to want to do too much on his own. Then again, he's been top class of late so perhaps he deserves that bit of freedom.

He's astoundingly good. But as each game goes by, and Nani starts finding his best form, it irritates me more and more that we didn't play him against Barca. I don't think there's a team in the world that can deal with this guy for 90 mins. Our best player.

Why does this always come up when he has a good game? how does him having a good game now mean we should have picked him in a match last season when he was clearly off form and valencia having a good spell?
