Nani: I'm living the dream

In an exclusive interview with Inside United, the 23-year-old tells of his trip to M16 as a youngster and looks back on how far he has come since.

"I came with my friend and we did the tour of the museum and the stadium," explains to the monthly magazine, out now. "I remember sitting in the first-team dressing room and both of us saying ‘wow, this is Ronaldo’s place’ and ‘this is where Rooney and Giggs sit'!

"We sat there and said ‘imagine what it would be like to be part of this dressing room one day,’…and then two years later I was here. It was a great feeling when I signed."

Nani talks in-depth about his emergence as one of the key men for United in 2010, and how he is enjoying his football and feels at home in Manchester and at United.

"The life here is very nice," he adds, "but the best things for me are being able to play football every day for such a great club and having the opportunity to win trophies each season.

"I’ve learnt a lot in my time here - I'm older, more experienced and I have more confidence. It's my fourth season at the club and it feels like this is home now."

I was one of those who said Malouda but if we carry on playing Nani on the right then we may just have the best winger in the country.

Bit of a disadvantage to the team though. Valencia will end up being perma-benched and we're back to having no genuine left wing option

It didn't seem so bad at the time but at 1-3 when he went through and tried to shoot from that ridiculous angle inside of squaring to park for a guaranteed goal is now really fecking annoying.

Agreed, Berbatov was guilty of this as well.

Given that he's just back from international duty I guess a below par performance can be accepted, but he still managed to produce two fantastic assists.

Nah. Berbatov didn't have an obvious ball on, any pass played was as difficult as an attempted shot.

The Nani one was a different league.

I'm not blaming him, obviously, but it's little things like that.

It was a bad call, but the team with rife with them after Park came on and we had Scholes and Giggs in central midfield. Bad decisions in defence, midfield and attack including Nani and Berbatov's choices.

Nah Nani was free and open a few yards inside, screaming for the ball. Giggs
was waiting at the back post.

Most likely, being upset he wasnt played in was the reason Nani was a bit selfish with that next effort.

So Berba's mistakes are his own and Nani's are Berba's.

Good lad.

Sorry Mrs. Berbatov, I didnt mean to offend you.

Nani's selfish mistakes were his own. Berbatov's selfish mistakes his own too.

Course if either one had scored, right choice. They didnt. Not even getting them on target is a poor outcome.

And Berbatov did put Nani in before the second chance to do so and the keeper saved it.

You didn't offend me. You were just talking bollocks and I said I'd point it out to you before you wasted too much time trying to justify it.

Nani made the wrong choice, just as Berba arguably did prior to that. Justifying Nani's choice by suggesting it was a reaction to not getting the ball on the other occasion is just nonsense. If Nani (or any other player) isn't able to make the right choice because a big meanie wouldn't give him the ball a few minutes before then he's probably not suited to playing for us.

Nobody justified it. Just as nobody justified Berbatov not passing to Nani because he didnt score the last time he put him in.

You're just being oversensitive because your man was criticised. Poor lamb.

So you're not trying to qualify Nani's decision by speculating that he somehow Nani's failure to pass was predicated on Berba doing the same?

 My man? I've consistently said he's been no better than decent to good for us. What bothers me is when tits see him as an easy target and criticise him for things others get away with.

I didnt qualify it, I said thats why I think he did it and called it selfish.

Brophs and Berba sitting in a tree..

Nani played well again for me, one of our main sparks and outlets, just wish he was able to convert some of that energy a bit more efficiently..

Today sums up where hes at perfectly for me, moments of pure magic and moments of pure naivety, great great talent who still lacks a consistency the very best have, wouldn't swap him for any winger in the league because of that clear ability and potential greatness (yes greatness) but hes still got to work on doing the right things more consistently, but its getting there.

A real, real shame for Valencia, but the dilemma oft discussed in this thread has now (unfortunately) been solved; Nani should have the right wing to himself all season. It leaves a big question mark on the left though.

Give Obertan a shot, bit of rotation between right and left.

A real shame for Valencia, never like to see anyone suffer that sort of injury, let alone someone playing for United. Nani and Park on the right I suppose then.

As for the left, I assume that Fergie has Giggs/Park/Nani in mind to use but now with the injury we are a bit short on wingers. Against teams that park the bus I really think David Silva would have been a great pickup for us, hes like a current giggs, able to drift centrally and make that weighted pass whether it be chipped, through ball or even link with the strikers. He can do a job out wide though prefers to be central (since we let our left winger move in centrally it would fit). However we dont have Silva or someone else so it looks like Giggs will take most of the selections and park will play against tougher teams to utilize his defensive capabilities. We are an injury away from crisis however.

If anything I reckon that it'll be Rooney on the left now in the bigger games, seeing as Berbatov is playing so well, and Giggs and Park in more central roles. Nani pretty much has the right wing nailed down now.

your right, it does seem likely that Rooney will be shifted out wide. We will cope with the Valenica injury, but to me its a massive blow and leaves us very stretched. I'm not a fan of rooney out left but we may not have a choice.

Definetly the best in the league, very quickly working his way to becoming one of the best in the world.

He's always had the potential to be a top top player as many of us thought but just needed regular games IMO instead of being taken off early or playing swap with Park. Him and Anderson have always been players I liked to see player even when they were getting stick from some people because even if they made mistakes or were sloppy at times you could see the technique was there.

Hope Nani carries on like this.

Funny thing is, I believe Anderson can become the better player.

Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha

It's a pleasure to see what a wonderful player he's become, was really excellent today. I think the most pleasing thing about him now is that he makes exactly the right decision 99% of the time - what a change from even 12 months ago!

I agree with everything except decreasing the percentage.
He's really transformed into something, if he could just stop acting like a pussy

I've decided to never ever doubt Sir Alex's patience with players. First Nani transforms into a brand new player and now Berbatov is looking like one of the best forwards in world football. He's even outshining Rooney!

Next up: Anderson

So far this season Nani has created goals against Everton, Chelsea and Liverpool. Malouda has bullied a load of crap teams. Of course apart from his disappearing act at Wembley Malouda has yet to be tested against any quality opposition, so it's unfair to say for certain that last season's pattern will repeat itself, but I'd call it a safe bet.

was great today except for the diving. got involved in the defensive end several times, lots of his usual magic at the other end, unlucky touch to miss a goal.

Potential wise i think you may be right, but if the rumours of Andersons attitude towards trainning is correct i wouldnt hold my breath (and im one of his fans)
