Luckhurst: United prepared to move for a holding midfielder in January

This is nonsense. If teams were easily making back transfer fees and wages on shirt sales/marketing that could be solely attributed to the player that's been signed, then the transfer fees and wage demands would increase in accordance with that.

this is quite a rare case though because Ronaldo is the most marketable player in the world right now, and the cost is fairly reasonable (compared to if he was at his peak)

I wouldn't be surprised if United made back the Ronaldo money - it's hard to quantify as the value in branding and sponsorship deals can't be easily calculated in terms of how much Ronny adds by himself

Somewhere Woodward is just salivating at all the sponsorship deals he can do before Dec

Must be that we are getting Trippier Camavinga Neves and Saul on the final day. Complete overhaul of the midfield done!

He mentioned that he will be going on Romano’s stream and that’s where he will announce it.

He then said Five is the place to be on deadline day.

I took that as Romano being on Five during deadline day.

I don't think he was hinting at a United deal there was he?

how would he know it's happening on deadline day and not before?

I was wondering if Utd would sell Pogba if Mbappe leaves and PSG offer say €80mil. Neves wouldnt be a bad shout as hes Portuguese as well. Though a proper DM destroyer would be handy.
If they offer 80mil??????
Feck me!!!
I think Utd would bite their hands off in an instant if they could get anywhere past half that amount for Pogba.

We are just being greedy now but a decent DM and the squad is there? Maybe a RB who can play forward as well.

The squad is very bloated now. Surely we need to sell some players?

Amazing to think we might actually have a better window than PSG.

I think the quickest way to get players out is to sign new players. If a player know's they're 3rd or 4th choice in a position they will hopefully look to leave if they care about their career. At the moment players like Lingard think they can force their way into the team because VDB is so shit

I don't really see how he suggested another signing. Seems like a link up for Twitch stream or something on the day

I predict Trippier in along with Pogba's replacement Neves with Pogba going to PSG after they get their Mbappe money.

Rio wouldn't say that if Pogba was going, why would he be happy for Pogba to go and get fans to tune in? Doesn't make sense.

My guess would be Trippier and Camavinga

Can't believe people were happy to spunk 100m on Kane to get a "proper striker who scores goals" in but now that we've signed possibly the best striker in the world for cheap it's not as much of an upgrade as signing Ruben fecking Neves.

Get a grip. I've been banging the "we need a DM" drum for 2 years but if you want to win finals and big games this is the player you sign.

Is it possible that both are stupid signings for United? Lot of recency bias with Kane. Had an admittedly amazing season last year but prior to that was looking completely shot with injuries. You don’t spend over €100mn on an injury plagued striker who will see out the majority of his contract in his thirties.

As for Ronaldo, I’m disgusted with this transfer. We’ve re-signed a player who has very credible rape allegations made against him on the day a prominent footballer playing for our rivals has been charged with horrific crimes of a similar nature. I just can’t get excited about that.

As if that wasn’t enough, it’s just a foolish waste of resources in a window we were told we couldn’t sign a midfielder without outgoings, the club suddenly rustles up massive amounts of cash for a fading star who was happy to go to our main rivals a day before. No doubt CR7 will get his goals this season but at what cost to our overall play, Greenwood’s development and the clubs perception.

That second team can finish fifth.

The highlighted team looks sensational on paper.

I want to say that is just Rio plugging his channel so he can get some good views

but then again he’s as much a muppet as the rest of us so maybe we are signing someone else too.

I feel like the Ronaldo signing was additional to whatever we would have planned and won’t affect anything.

If we had another target in mind before yesterday then I’m sure we will still go for it.

The thread title needs changing. He definitely wasn’t talking about further signings at the end. I’m pretty sure he meant Romano, coming onto his show on deadline day.

Unless we can offset Ronaldo's wages with commercial stuff related to Ronaldo, we're probably spent unless we can shift on some of the fringe players. Problem is, there's zero market out there right now. It's loans or nothing it seems.

People said the same yesterday before it became obvious we had hijacked the deal.

I actually think the likes of Rio and co for the first time ever have inside knowledge on our dealings because it’s no longer a complete hush hush closed circle of Woodward and his team. We’ve got Murtough running that side of things with Fletcher organising the approach for each target and they’re savvy enough to know they can bring their old team mates and United legends into the fold for a bit of transfer dark arts.

It’s what Real used to do, getting the likes of Zidane to text or call targets. It doesn’t matter if it leaks, it helps build pressure.

Agree with this, didn’t Rio help with Varane too or have I made that up?

Exactly, apparently he got in touch with Varane through Twitter.

The Romano being on his show thing is cool for him. However, Rio is a massive transfer muppet. Just by listening to him, and seeing how Howson is carrying on now on Twitter as well, it's blindingly obvious that Rio is expecting another signing.

I think there is the potential that Mbappe going to PSG may result in a domino effect leading to us selling a player or two.

The obvious midfield signing is what we need. But I do understand that financially speaking we probably need to move someone on.

Who did Rio support as a kid... Because these days he's about 100% top red as you could hope to find
