Lucas Moura - (Caf decides he’s naff again) Spurs bound?

People under estimate how effective simplicity is. fergie went from having the superlative talents of CR7 and the raw Nani on his wings, to relying on the direct, uncomplicated, not overly intelligent style of Valencia and Young, the grit of Park and the intermitent genius of a maturing Nani to still dominate the league till he retired post CR7. Even with City and Chelsea being so moneyed.

Thanks.

To be completely honest, you have to take @kouroux and @Ecstatic opinions into account, they are both right and wrong. Lucas has a good potential that he often demonstrates, he has a very good attitude on the field like Cavani and he has good technical abilities but his decision making will let himself down way too often to consider Lucas like a very good player. If he is cheap than he is a pretty good option to explore but he shouldn't be considered like the missing piece in our starting eleven, he could be what some expected from Mkhitaryan, a solid member of a first XIII.
Something that's worrying is that it appears to me that Lucas has lost quite a bit of pace and he doesn't dribble as successfully anymore. I haven't seen him a lot recently (largely due to his lack of game time), but would that be a reasonable observation?

To be fair, although it worked, our football was pretty tumescent at times in that period, because he went for that sort of style. The great man worked well with what he had, but it was ugly stuff that had plenty of us underwhelmed.

Yes, the key there being Fergie. You get the impression he'd have been able to win one or two of those latter titles just as well with Blomqvist on one wing and Bebe on the other.

I'm not sure how it is possible that the club prioritises Lucas for the RW instead of someone proven and much more skillful like Mahrez, but it is what it is and nothing we the fans can do about it.

To be perfectly honest, I'd rather us persist with Mata and Mikhitaryan on the right and wait for the summer to see who else is available. Lucas seems like such an underwhelming signing, doesn't possess anywhere near world class attributes or potential to develop.

Good option, as a squad player, would immediately slot in on the right. But the revisionism reg Fergie is a bit much. City were already in the ascendancy, there is no way SAF would be pushing them for the title without buying top quality players. And he did, with RVP.

The best thing Moura would bring to the team is balance. As would any other right winger. If that rumoured price is true (20m euros) then that's a great deal, fitting for a squad player.

I don't know, bear in mind that Ligue 1 players are good athletes, there is plenty of pacy defenders.

Mahrez is not consistent enough for a big team, time will tell but i'm afraid i'm correct. Also don't get the comparisons with Walcott. I guess most people here just checked some youtube videos but the Brazilian is twice the player.

For 20M-25M Lucas is a bargain. Pretty excited with this.

More successful dribbles per 90 mins and a higher success rate than any of our wingers this year or last.

If he's lost a yard of pace I've not seen it. Guy is lightning.

Mahrez's issue in a big club is the way you have to use him to maximize him is to funnel most of your attacking play through him as the primary creative hub of the team. There is no way he's good enough to command that kind of central role at a big club with oter creative talents with ambitions of challenging for major titles even though, yes, Leicester did win the PL, but I think we all know that was a one off.

«Brazilian Walcott»...sounds like one hell of a player to be honest. What is that actually ment to imply?

We want to close the gap to City right? Mahrez could potentially be available and if we sign this definition of average player...Jeez

Has there been a credible link?

Lucas Moura will be a great signing. After all, Valencia can’t cross and he is now our captain. Worst case scenario, if LM doesn’t make it as a winger, we will soon need a replacement for Tony ar RFB.

Footballs moving away from wingers, in favour of wingbacks for width and wide forwards who chip in more goals, so are in the box more. It's why wingers like Valencia and Moses have been converted to wingbacks successfully, as they have the attributes.

Penny hasn't dropped for a few people about this, it's why I genuinely think we'll switch to a back three soon enough.
Nah, mate. 442 for life!

Amazed at the negativity in this thread. Especially considering the price of the player in question in comparison to current market rates. Who exactly were people expecting us to buy, Neymar? We were in for perisic in the summer.

And Lucas Moura is?

The more people don't want him the more I'd like us to sign him.

Think he'd be an improvement on what we've got and that makes it worth a punt at that price.

^ This guy read CAF

 Lazy journalists who steal ideas for free

Hi,

I'm a journalist that writes about women's football and I'm writing a piece on Man United's old women's team. I want to chat to an ex player (pre-2005 when it ended) on what it was like for women to pull on the United shirt.
I'm struggling to find even a list of players. I was wondering if anyone on here knew anyone (don't have to be still playing) who was involved at that time.

Appreciate any help you can give,
Cheers
Suzanne

Redcafe is against him. He'll be a hit.

But.

He will be 26 soon. Too old. Few more years and he'll be 30.

OK cheers, fair enough.

I think he has lost a yard or two of pace, but he's still very quick.

Shite, really? Feck me, might as well give him a club zimmer frame if he signs! Exit the deal!!

Agreed.

We should also sell Martial before he loses his resale value. Stay ahead of the curve.

There is only two ways to achieve that

a- we spend ridiculous amount of money on fees and salary. Which we tend to do but we'll never be able to go toe to toe against Shitty and PSG
b- we start winning serious trophies and that means CLs and EPLs not the mickey mouse cups like UEFA cup, FA cup etc

Apart from that, we're stuck back to the buying bargains/players who are off the radar in the hope we can sort them up. SAF did that magnificently up until he allowed sentimentality and outdated valors clouding what is important ie build a great side which will dominate the EPL for years to come

In my opinion, United's biggest problem is that we try to reinvent the wheel. Instead of opting for wingers who are filled with trickery and pace we opted for either slow pokes (Mata, Mkhitaryan) or talentless players (Lingard, Young etc). Since these sort of players will never do well with United in that position we're resorting to playing strikers with pace on the flanks instead (Rashford and Martial). That's silly. If we had Salah and Mane on the flanks (who are neither Messi nor Ronaldo) we would be seriously competing for the title.

That's flawed attitude is not reserved only for the flanks. I've yet to understand why

a- we bought the likes of Darmian (he's useless), Blind (too frail in CM, too slow as full back, too short as CB) and Rojo (where should I start on that one?)

b- our only cover for Matic is a former player in all but name (we might as well brought Robson out of retirement)?

c- we kept Ibra for another year after the terrible injury he suffered?

Our team is beyond the hilarious with our best full backs being wingers, our best wingers being strikers and our second best DM being a box to box midfielder. God what I would give for a young heartless SAF who would shake the team around, remove any scrap of sentimentality from OT, bring us back to our basics and kick those who aren't good enough out of OT.
Bang on with pretty much everything there, good post. We've shot far too many duds in our transfer dealings recently. Square pegs, holes that don't fit square pegs etc.

Our squad are not filled with pace. He'll bring pace. Yes, please.

Aaron Lennon and Theo Walcott have pace should we sign them as well? We’re not in the position of taking a punt on a PSG flop we need instant results from a quality player.

Which quality player are you suggesting?

He certainly wouldn't be my first choice but we've conveniently put ourselves in to a position where any half decent right winger would be a massive improvement. Id definitely take him as a cheap option, and again, despite probably being a lower caliber player than we should be aiming for he'd definitely improve us quite a bit.
