Louis van Gaal | Manchester United manager

This will be a big test to see how we can get that breakthrough. Its been a long time since we've had a comeback victory. Is this team good enough to score at least 2 goals to take the 3 points?

From what I've seen in the first half we aren't quite there yet but hopefully LVG has something up his sleeve.

We're just as bad as last season. Does this mean Van Gaal is £200 mill worth of players worse than Moyes?

Even if results have largely been similar, it feels like our football in general has improved. Still fairly early in the season, and two early to fully compare the two of them.

Sorry, but he has to take full responsibility of that clusterfeck tonight. Got the team and tactics woefully wrong.

First time I'm pissed off with LVG.

Rather play boring football and get some sort of defensive shape. We all over the place currently and look like conceding everytime.

He picked a more defensive line up tonight and did what people wanted in only playing one striker. It didn't make us any more solid and just made us more toothless. His subs did actually improve us for the first time ever tonight at least.

Agree with the sentiment. He's spent a fecking fortune and too often we've been poor.

He needs to settle on a system and stick to it. I don't think changing tactics every week is helping anything.

We're really not, but then you would say that. At least there is a semblance of cohesion amongst the players.

Why change the bloody system? Why play some kind of 4-1-4-1 when the diamond's been working pretty defenct so far in? We've reverted to dark Moyes ages tonight, endless crossing, only difference is that those crosses have been somewhat 'dangerous' but that's down only to ADM's quality.

It feels like the team is still not used to his .. philosophy, for lack of a better word. We can play our passing game all we want, but when we suddenly lose possession, they panic and get ripped apart. While we were pushing forward with all guns blazing at 1-1, I noticed WBA sat back and soaked up the pressure and at that point I said to myself, looks like they are trying to do a Leicester. Then ten minutes later they scored. Van Gaal needs to work on the transition from attacking to defending, and each player needs to understand their defensive responsibilities at all times regardless of whether we have possession or not.

Has made some weird things so far. I'm surprised that he's not been good enough for United yet. LvG should do better.

Really? The line up was fine, only Falcao/Van Persie was really arguable. Fellaini proved a good substitution and we controlled much of the game. If Jones and Rojo defended sensibly then we wouldn't be having this discussion, I feel.

Admittedly, I would have played Herrera deeper and Mata as the orthodox #10 instead of the 433. I don't think it suited Mata at all.

Our defense seemed to be much better under Moyes right? I rather play enticing football to be honest, but it is frustrating to watch us play and every game, we can expect the opposition to score against us. We havent even played city or Chelsea yet. Hopefully, van Gaal is anti Moyes and he actually performers better against top teams.

He needs to get going at some point. Our defensive organization is just poor and playing RvP no matter what aint helping him

Your agenda is painfully obvious at this point, no harm to you.

We're playing much better football than last year, we're just not getting the breaks. It'll come though where as you can be sure nothing would have ever changed for the better under Moyes.

The three months he gave himself are up and there's a lot to pick on, and with Chelsea and City coming up you can bet that the knives are being sharpened in the newsrooms.

Brace yourselves guys, it's going to a bumpy few weeks.

There're things a manager can't control, clearly we're moving forward and doing something right, but we keep making stupid mistakes game after game.

Some players are really pushing it, to be a united player you need to be consistent, otherwise we'll be facing another exodus next summer.

Not impressed at all.
Shit tactics at the start. (3-4-3 nonsense)
Shit subs (swansea,Sunderland, Leicester)

I knew at 1-1 west brom would score, we were playing so far up field the gaps were obvious. Where was the so called organisation???

With Chelsea and city comming up, fully expect 2 more losses in 2 weeks.

150 million spent and has the same amount of points as Moyes dis last season despite having FAR easier fixtures.

3/10 so far van gaal.

The "3 month" period he's gave us is starting to come to its end; Maybe we'll kickstart our splendid form with a 7-2 victory over Chelsea... said no one ever.

Exactly. We are making every game hard, when we are more often than not clearly the far superior team. It's fecking frustrating, but knee-jerk reactions doesn't help us right now. Maybe it's sound like an excuse for someone, but we also really have no fecking luck in the last 2 seasons. We get punished for every mistake, we get no penalties or decisions in our favour, van Persie goal could be easily in too. Look how Liverpool won with 2 own goals their game, we looked much better and still get only this point. It's like we are cursed

Lack of bigger focus on upgrading the defense even with spot on signing in Rojo.

This aspect may constantly bite him in the ass to at least January... I really hope it won't but looks like it's becoming a huge issue for United.

What's he said in the post match?

Best performance of the season. He's saying we should have won. Sloppy goals given away. He planned to bring Fellaini on after he watched 30 mins to try and take advantage of Di Maria's cross and for a physical presence.

F*ck me! :wenger::wenger:

One think I noticed in the first half was that it seemed that Herrera was playing alongside Mata. If we're going to play Mata so deep, I don't think we should play him at all. We'd be better off against Chelsea playing a midfield trio of Blind, Herrera and Fellaini/Carrick with Di Maria and Januzaj out wide.

Or we just switch back to the diamond with possibly dropping one of the strikers for Fellaini or Januzaj with a different variation.

Other managers would have been slaughtered for saying that....

We played 3-4-3?
First word.

Did he tell them to play it long and kick umpteen crosses? I have no idea. Judging by his comments the team decided to do it and he then put on Fellaini.

So far not good enough. I see no philosophy in this side. I hope he can turn it around sharpish.

To be fair, he has a history of saying things like that. No idea if it is putting a straight face, if he is taking the piss or if he really thinks that.

But from what I remember from his career, it isn't un-usual for him to say that we were good when we are shit and that we weren't good when we're excellent.

He needs to sort out the defensive organization as a team.

Not been his strongest suit in past teams though.

3 months in and his philosophy(whatever that is) still needs to sink in.

Thought we were poor when Di Maria and Mata went off. We created next to in the final 20 mins with a long effort hitting the woodwork and the goal. We just started lumping it which was disappointing.
