Television Lost: The Final Season

I've a day off too, but I'm neither staying up or waking up for it. I'll Sky+ it though, so I guess their idea does work.

Thing is though, if I couldn't skip through ads with Sky+, I'd still just go and download all 2.5 gigs in HD.

I know you lot don't like folk like me who only watched the first couple of seasons asking loads of questions now. And to be honest I don't want to know, I enjoyed what I watched, got bored, and haven't felt the compulsion to start watching again

So I ask just one question. With the entire run reaching its finale, is it at all apparent that the writers knew what they were doing back then and had a grand plan which now reaches its desired conclusion, or have they quite clearly blagged it as they've gone along?

My laptap can't play HD files for some weird reason - would have loved to watch the finale in HD.

A bit of both, they clearly had an idea of the themes that they wanted to explore when they started the show, however there are far too many plot threads that have come to nothing for anybody to argue that they knew exactly what they were doing at every step of the way.

Made it up as they went along. Basically they threw the kitchen sink at it. . .which is why it's completely nonsensical, full of plot holes and riddled with deus ex machina. Thankfully I stopped watching after the 4th series, there's only a certain amount a person can take before realising it's for idiots.

There really isn't much evidence either way. Each season kind of evolved into a grander scale of events... I mean Jacob and Smokey have been mentioned from early seasons but who is to say they ever had a clear idea of who they were??

I think in some respects it is naive to think the writers are just making it up as they go along... no-one writes like that... but also did they ever know what they were going to do 4 seasons down the line? Hard to say. The writers maintain that they always had an idea of where they wanted the show to go, it was just how they were going to get there that was the question.

In answer to your question Brad, we wont really know til its completely over

That being said, every TV series has plot holes so im expecting LOST to leave a couple too

I'll be about at 6ish. So i can skip the adverts and enjoy in HD glory, the only annoying thing is seeing as it's a live thing from America are we going to have more advert breaks than usual?

It won't be show till 6am over here, so i'm just download it when i get up tomorrow, with it being bank hoiday etc. No point at all in me staying up till 6am.

I think we already know from that they can't wrap up certain plot threads in the final episode as they have long since been abbandoned, which does given good evidence that they have not had a clear idea how to proceed at all times.

One of my favourite parts of season 6 there. Shame it didn't kinda stay in that sort of direction afterwards, would have been better if this happened near the finale.

The blonde "others" bitch in Season 3. Is she the same as Dexter's wife Rita? She looks might similar and is as annoying as her too!

No, I'm assuming you mean 'Juliet' (played by Elizabeth Mitchell) as opposed to Rita from Dexter (as played by Julie Benz). Two very different people.

Yes Juliet.

Well they looked rather similar and I found them both equally annoying so thought they might be the same

Half way through season3 . Loving it!

IIRC, they didn't expect the show to run for six seasons. But instead of using the extra time to develop some of the storylines more fully, they veered off track and introduced a number of new "mysteries" which will not be resolved. I don't mind a few open-ended storylines, since not everything has to be spoonfed to the viewers. But Lost has just taken it to an extreme. IMO, they could've done without the whole time-travelling nonsense. They probably used it as a plot device to give us some background on the Dharma Initiative and the purge, but it just descended into an ungodly mess.

The first two seasons of Lost were very good - after that, it's been a gimmick.

Not that it's stopped me from watching it religiously... :nervous:

Agreed. Worst point of the series for me. People seem to think those seasons were the best, but for me it took away from the whole "mythology" aspect of the island. (that's not actually the word i'm looking for at all, but i can't think of how i'd explain what i mean)

Basically, the introduction of the sci-fi aspect dissapointed me. The mystery around the hatch, the others, and the monster i loved. Then when it picked up again with the Jacob and monster stuff, to where we are now. Those were the best parts for me.

Although i don't mind the alternate timeline so much, it's actually quite interesting.

I'll be up at 5am trying to watch a stream on my awfully slow internet at uni halls. Best be worth it! So sad that it's nearly over :(

That cant be right, Sky are advertising it as starting at 5am GMT

I think youll find its more of Sky stretching the truth, its always started 2am UK time and I dont expect them to delay the finale by three hours, Sky start showing it as soon as its finished in the US, not simmultaneously (however its spelt) as they claim.

Probably due to some law that means ABC Have to be the first to air it

Spoilers in here for people catching up but none for the finale:

Prepare For The Lost Finale With Every Unanswered Question

That's actually a quality read before the last ep. There's a lot of questions there, but you can easily pick out the things you tihnk must be answered, as opposed to things like the "where is x in the sideways timeline" questions etc.

There's alot of things i'd forgotten about, that i think should be answered. The worrying thing is, that there's so much, a large amount is clearly not going to be explained.

So where is the most reliable stream available, I think if the stream stops half way through I will be traumatized.

Got the day off tomorrow, but I'll wait until the evening, gotta watch Lost at night ! Will be hard to wait all day, though..

Flavorpill’s Official Lost Finale Drinking Game
12:59 pm Friday May 21, 2010 by Bethany Larson

This Sunday marks the two and a half hour Lost finale extravaganza, and we at Flavorpill are feeling a little conflicted. We’re giddy with excitement (think of all the answers we’ll FINALLY get!) but we’re also sad because we’ll no longer have an excuse to ogle Henry Ian Cusick every week. So to combat this ambivalence, we’ve devised a drinking game for our fellow Losties to both drown our collective sorrows and reward us for having the patience and tolerance to stick with the oh-so cryptic show until the end. But be warned: this game might make your liver hate you forever. So grab a case or two of Dharma beer and peep the Official Flavorpill Lost Finale Drinking Game® rules after the jump. As always, feel free to suggest your own additions in the comments.

Take a drink…

…when you see a close-up of an eye.
…every time Desmond says “brotha.”
…every time Hurley says “dude.”
…once when Smokey kills a person in Locke form. Drink twice when he kills someone in smoke monster form.
…every time Miles makes a snarky comment.
…every time Sawyer calls someone by a nickname. Take a second if it’s a misogynist nickname.
…Jacob gives an annoyingly simple and straightforward answer to a major question (à la “It’s just a line of chalk on a wall”).

Take shot…

…if Shannon (Maggie Grace) shows up. Take another if she’s wearing a mini skirt.
…every time Ben shoots someone.
…any time someone speaks Latin.
…if Desmond and Penny (and baby Charlie) are reunited.
…if Faraday and David are both playing at that concert everyone in sideways world seems to be going to.

Chug…

…every time Jack reminds everyone that he is in charge.
…if Claire goes into labor in sideways world.
…if Juliet is David’s mom.
…if you hear Mr. Eko’s name.
…if anyone mentions the polar bear.

Finish your drink…

…if Vincent re-appears.
…if (fingers crossed) Kate dies.
…if (the real) John Locke is resurrected on the island.
…if Drive Shaft performs. Or that damn “You All Everybody” song is played.
