Lost or 24?

Well it's not as bad as Heroes but then again Heroes isn't as bad as Smallville. But I put my shows into two categories - Shows worth watching and shows not worth watching... 24 falls into the latter.

24 just does not come into any category which contains Heroes.

Heroes was pathetic and supremely bad after the first season.

24 was class.

This thread began with somebody asking if Lost was as good as 24 and whether the OP should watch it. No idea how it turns into stuff like this but I've no idea why people have started bringing out the shows they like in comparison, that wasn't even the question. For the people saying both/either became/are rubbish and then saying "Oh this show is so much better, the writing is amazing, etc...". It's not like everybody must watch the cream of the crop in terms of TV shows and nothing else. Some people seem a bit snobbish in the way that they compare shows or look down at others for what they watch (I'm looking at you Spammy).

Fair enough. Op, if you want a realisticish action thriller that has a concept format then go with 24. If your after a fantasy, scifi adventure thats chracter driven go with LOST.

Both of them had a good first season, before losing the run of themselves.

They're more similar than you think.

No, not really. I'v seen 3 seasons of Lost and it's definitely not deteriorated the way Heroes did.

And yeah for me 24>>>Lost

The Wire doesn't even get close to licking 24's sweaty scrote.

Have you watched a whole series of The Wire?

Lost. Had the best characters who made the flaws pretty irrelevant.

The Wire doesn't even get close to licking 24's sweaty scrote.

Wow, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that before.

Neither 24 or Lost come anywhere close to being as good as The Wire, or half of what HBO have made for that matter.

Lost, I got bored of 24 after a couple of seasons, I didn't watch them in order which didn't help to be fair.

In fact I would say Lost is my favourite show of all time. Of course in terms of nearing perfection it doesn't come close to The Wire, Dexter, Deadwood etc but I have been watching it since I was 14 and spent many lunch hours and the like talking about episodes with my mates, which is half the fun with Lost.

What happened after the 13 episodes that made it shit?

I don't agree that S2 was turgid shit either.

I thought S2 of Prison Break was brilliant, first 10 eps were bloody fantastic. All the convicts racing towards the money in Utah.

24 didn't lose the run of itself after S1. I think S2 is still its best season but people only started to lose it with 24 in S5/6 I believe. Actually it was probably the later end of S4.

I am one of the biggest 24 fans here and as a show the Wire is superior. It's better than anything out there, 24 is still my personal favourite but the Wire is better. Your statements are bizarre, how much of the Wire have you seen?

24 realistic. My god.

What's so wrong with that? If you've watched the making of documentaries you would know that a lot of professionals work on the show to make it as realistic as possible. If you are talking about the way Jack survives all the time, well what good would it be if he was dead?

Granted there are some moments that are unrealistic but on the whole it is a realistic depiction of counter-terrorism. The way Jack handles a weapon and his movement with the gun, weapons etc. is brilliant. This is down to Kiefer's acting aswell, which is always on point.

Blah blah I stopped reading after 'I am'.

Try telling me The Wire is better than 24 again. Try it. I'll just interrupt you and anyone that tries the same.

Then you are a spastic. The reason I said that is because even I can see (as a huuuuge fanboy of 24) that it is not as good a show as The Wire.

It's like you having Rio Ferdinand as your favourite defender, yet you know that Vidic is better.

Comon bite you cnuts.

Right so, because Jack handles the weapon correctly, 24 is a realistic(ish) show? Every single season is as ridiculous, if not more ridiculous than Lost, in terms of what happens throughout the 24 hours.

I mean fecking hell, in S3 Kim gets chased by a cougar.

Did I only say the way he handles the weapon? No, if you watched the documentaries you would see that they go to a lot of trouble to have things looking authentic and real.

I already said that you get exceptions and it was S2.

Lost is a gimmick, it's a truly modern phenomenon, it's complete bullshit, for that niche of society who know high-brow exists and pretend this is it. The sort of idiots who read self help guides to success in life and that sort of bollocks rather than actually thinking for themselves. It's a whole new genre of nonsense.

I can't believe people are trying to argue that "any" aspect of 24 is real.

It's not real, of course it's not, it's drama for the sake of being drama. It's cheesy and at times the acting is suspect, but that just adds to the whole thing.

Best program ever. President Palmer is the biggest legend ever. Kim Bauer is worth several squirts and I'd be gay or Tony Almeida if he wanted.

No, that was Season 2. Season 3 was quality.

Almeida was a twat for the most of Season 1. Palmer is a legend yes, the best black man in the world, better than Ghandi and Winston Churchill.

But yeah, some people are thinking about it too much. 24 is a fecking great TV show, you'se are all fecking idiots.

 harsh but fair.

I do not necessarily agree with this but that is indeed a fantastic rant.

Moses's spot on. I've heard it's pinot noir to 24's Pepsi on here. Chuckle. I would like to point these idiots in the direction of Wong Kar Wai, Kurosawa, Kubrick et al if they want to watch high quality film making. As I said, Lost is a kin to Dallas - the fact that most of its fans have decided it's all about the characters says it all. Seriously folks, stick to soaps. 24's not brilliant but at least it does what it says on the tin.

Spoony, I gotta say you were totally spot on regarding Lost when you tried to talk me out of it (I don't know if you remember it)

Yeah, I sussed it out a few series ago when it was clear they were simply making it up as they went along. Sure the first series was good, but that was mainly because it was an unravelling plot, and they usually do draw you in. However, when they weren't answering questions and simply making up more and more stupid ones, it just got too much. I don't really want to waste my time watching a pathetic ad hoc storyline and a series that may as well be a soap opera. Nah, for me it was meant to be a mystery/thriller not a character study. I can watch Eastenders for that or stick on some old clips of Dynasty. I feel sorry for those who endured it for 6 years. . .the poor sods actually thought they were watching a deep and meaningful show. But yeah Spamms is right, it's for women, teenagers and gays. Just look at the Lost thread.
