Lost or 24?

It's the whole package I am talking about.

The way it looks like a film rather than TV, the setting, the vast cast, the direction, the characters, the editing, the score, everything. It's a great piece of TV and one which we won't see for a long while IMO.

 I suggest you actually watch it and determine whether or not its garbage. A lot of people may not agree with the amount of questions it leaves but its one of the finest pieces of television you will find.

I've been told quite a bit about it, my missus used to watch it but gave up on it because it became too far fetched. From everything I've heard and read I'd hate it, so I'm not going to waste my time when I've got other things I'm planning to watch which actually seem good.

24 is for not very bright people who get easily sold by the same old cliff hanger shite and stretched out twists. It will actually dumb you down by watching it. It consistently writes itself into a corner and BOOM somebody comes back from the dead or it turns out the bad guys were only mediocre ones hired by a super bad guy (until he turns out to be not so mean) and the other group of bad guys that kidnapped one of the good guys are in fact good guys too only that they are forced to look like bad guys because they are working against the government yet attacking the same group of people with the same motives.

If you mixed all the hours up in one season and watched it, you'd probably not notice any difference.

Prerequisites for actors on 24: Need to know how to hold a gun; hold a gun and run; run, stop suddenly and shoot a gun in a "I could do you right now" pose; learn how to answer and hang up a flip phone with a strict matter of urgency and crucially play the good guy then the bad guy then a bad guy who is tied up then back to the good guy and then the bad guy and then the dead guy.

LOST will be remembered for the hype it generated and certainly not as one of the finest pieces of television. Pointless storylines and ridiculous amount of deus ex machina is going to hit people hard in the face when they watch it on the DVDs.

Correct. It's basically not very good.

There's a whole host of TV shows that are absolutely miles better written/directed/acted than Lost.

You must be either a female, a homosexual, a teenager or all three.
Hah, so the mindless repetitive scripting of 24 makes you a man. Where as the intellgence of the 3 shows mentioned makes you a female, homo or a teenager. If thats the case then the A team is the greatest show ever written in your eyes. Once Keiffer and the crew have finished feeding you the same plot over and over again, maybe it's time for you to grow up and start watching the shows the adults are watching.

After the first 2 series of 24 there was literally no point watching it all over again disguised as a new series. Prison break and Heroes did the same. Now the Shield. Thats another cracking show I've got to catch up on. Sons of Anarchy as well.

Yeah why the feck do the writers have spaz attacks after a show becomes successful?

Where did you get up to in The Shield? That's one show that has class performances.

Only the first series and thats now a dim memory, that I'll have to watch it again. Could see the potential though. Had that same first series feeling as breaking bad and Sons of Anarchy.

The biggest loss in recent years to TV for me was Deadwood, they never finished it. Which is such a shame as it was the only series for me that came close to rivalling The Wire in terms of scripting and acting.

I'd recommend continuing with the Shield. Some really top notch performances in later series especially Forest Whitaker and it stays true to itself, unbelievably hanging on that very first episode concerning Terry.

Never watched Deadwood but may just check it out.

I have enjoyed Lost a lot more than 24, mainly because of the mysteries. The last season however didn't really do much for me.

Neither of the two shows are in my top 5 though.

Just rewatched the whole of the Shield and its actually fantastic. The last 3 seasons are as good as Ive seen. Love Whitakers character, Glenn Close was excellent aswell.

The Shield is THE shit.I remember after watching the first episode that I knew it was to be an epic series.

The end of it with SPOILER!

You may want to spoiler that for those who haven't seen it.
Not very nice revealing anything no matter how vague it might be.

But yeah, The Shield is a brilliant show which didn't get nearly enough recognition.

The end of it with Vic and the gun was just spot on.Everything in that show was spot on

I absolutely loved the end of it. Possibly the one thing it has over The Wire

The stand out moment for me was the Pasuela(?) gave Vic the pic of Aveveda giving head!!! Vic's face was :wenger::lol::D

Any fans of the the Shield that havent check out the Sons of anarchy should catch up on the first 2 seasons. done by the same crowd.

More than enough to form an opinion.

Unless you're saying it got better after Series 1?

I heard it did the opposite, if anything.

Says it all.

S2 was just as good IMO, though I don't think it matters if subsequent seasons were better or not. They were still at a high level, Prison Break S1 for example is untouchable in comparison to its other seasons. Though S2 was still brilliant.

Prison Break's S2 was turgid shit. Its first 13 episodes was what it was all about, not surprisingly since it was supposed to be a min series to which they added a lot of shit afterwards. Shame

Neither of LOST's season after the first one were as well written. No where near close.

There you have it.

S1 was kind of shit IMO.

Which means there was no point me watching any more.

In fact, I couldn't even be arsed watching the whole of S1. There's a whole lot of much better TV out there.

Come on Top.No need for spoilers as I purposely stayed vague with that sentence.
I didn't reveal anything significant other than there will be a gun in the final moments of the show (to be expected with a series called "The Shield")

I personally just know that I hate it when people tell me anything, anything at all, about what's going to happen. If I hadn't already watched the show, then I'd sit and watch the final and think about when something is going to happen with a gun.

I just think it needless to reveal anything, to be honest.

What happened after the 13 episodes that made it shit?

I don't agree that S2 was turgid shit either.

I'm like that x1000 when it comes to football.

I occasionally sky+ a game and try not to find out the result. This usually means I refuse to even talk to my friends at all, in case their tone of voice gives something away.

I once came close to a spectacular falling out with someone over the manner in which he offered to buy me a pint.

I understand it and I'll edit the post even if I still it's a bit pointless

Don't know if you should as they never finished it. Got cancelled.

The second go at breaking out after the failed first attempt was no where near as cohesive as the first plan.

Generally you expect a lot of loose writing and plot holes in a show whose premise is based on breaking out a prison ala 24 but the first dozen of episodes were ridiculously well written and knitted together so much so that it was incredibly hard to point out any flaw at all.

The West Wing eats up both Lost and 24 for breakfast, with room for more.

Yeah and no, at times it was brillant, at other times it was just plain boring. Wanted to see Martin Sheens president go right off the deep end and do what he did in the The Dead Zone. Instead Jimmy Smits just annoyed the hell out of me.

Aye, that's true. Especially when you consider the amount of time that's invested in a series, a bad movie is over 2 hours, a bad TV show won't be over for years (unless it's so shit it get's cancelled).

The thing about Lost is that I can at least justify the viewing because it had some original ideas - It had soap-opera type drama at points and the dialogue isn't much to write home about, but the universe they created was something completely new. But hey that's just my reason for liking it.

With 24 there just isn't much to take from it that's original or intelligent, I place it next to shows like Heroes (X-men gone retarded), Smallville (The shittiest thing on this Earth) and Supernatural (The light entertainment value wore off after a couple of seasons).

Should have just written that in your first line so I could avoid reading the rest.

Well it's not as bad as Heroes but then again Heroes isn't as bad as Smallville. But I put my shows into two categories - Shows worth watching and shows not worth watching... 24 falls into the latter.

This thread began with somebody asking if Lost was as good as 24 and whether the OP should watch it. No idea how it turns into stuff like this but I've no idea why people have started bringing out the shows they like in comparison, that wasn't even the question. For the people saying both/either became/are rubbish and then saying "Oh this show is so much better, the writing is amazing, etc...". It's not like everybody must watch the cream of the crop in terms of TV shows and nothing else. Some people seem a bit snobbish in the way that they compare shows or look down at others for what they watch (I'm looking at you Spammy).

24 by a mile, that said it bored my after season 5 with the same old, same old. Lost on the otherhand is one of the worst TV series I've seen. . .in fact I'm tempted to say the worst.
