London 2012 Olympic Competition

This is a disgrace from the rest of the peloton. Nobody wanted to race or help team GB and now they've all paid the price for it. Whats the point of busting your arse for five hours only to give up with 20km to go. Effectively it's if we can't win, neither are you cnuts.

Pathetic from GB tbh. I think they thought they would walk it.

So with these tactics you won't see two men from the same country on the podium then? For a guy who's in the GB team and is not named Cavendish, what's a good place to finish? Does it matter?

This is fecking shit coverage, no info at all on what's happening.

It's useless really. Very few split times and no info on which riders are in the groups ahead of the peleton.

Camara work is also terrible. We kept getting a slow motion of the same fecking turn.

Damn right, its not pathetic from GB at all, pathetic from the rest of the peloton.

Has this been a major fcuk up by Team GB? Ill be honest I dont watch much cycling, but this has really interested me. But it is hard to follow as a pretty much "first timer" on whats happening.

I have always liked Vino - doped or not he has always been someone who makes races interesting.

Coverage of that road race was absolutely atrocious, what with the severe lack of time checks and the commentators not knowing which riders were which.

Most other countries have riders in the front group. Everyone knows that Cavendish would win if it was a sprint, so everyone has worked against GB. Only Germany has helped a little because they have a good sprinter themselves, but they also know that they need fresh riders to put him in a perfect position if they want to beat Cavendish, so they were saving themselves for that.

Doesn't matter, no. The team were there to help Cavendish, their own position didn't matter.

You can have situations with two riders from same country on podium, but it's rare as a country will usually do all they can to put their best rider in the best possible position. You could see the Swiss working hard in the breakaway to give Cancellara a good chance for example.

Thats Cav? Wait thats not 11, thats 13. It looked like Cav.
And heres Italy. Oh wait it could be Russia, same colours.

Ugh. lol.

As I said I dont watch much Cycling, but it was a lil hard to follow and get to grips what each team needed to do or why Team GB were screwed by other teams or the tactics behind riding together etc.

Gonna watch some women's volleyball now. I got a choice between that or weightlifting on Eurosport. Russians currently beating GB there.

The first thing the BBC interviewer says to the Gold medalist is "Probably not the result everyone in Britain wanted to see but..." classy. And the obligatory question about the Team GB boys during the interview too. I hate that. Just shows no respect whatsoever.

Couldn't be more wrong. They did their utmost but they can't do it on their own.

Why would they bank on help in a one-off race though? That was the first silly thing, we seemed to be the only team working as a team, in an event that was won by individuals. So while not a pathetic attempt in terms of effort, it was in terms of intelligence.

Wtf. That was wierd

Pretty sure we can here the producers..

Cavendish could only win the race realistically in a sprint finish, leaving him to his own devices would of most likely seen him burned off before the finish anyhow.

I know that, but why did we expect the rest to help him get in that position, the writing was on the wall when the leading pack broke off and was never even remotely close to being caught. GB rode it like a time-trail, not a race.

I don't see why everyone is being blamed for the race. Truth is, maybe everyone besides for GB weren't good enough to catch the break away. GB are partly to blame, the build up had already handed the gold to them.

I suggest you learn more about cycling before commenting on it, because it's obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Dunno how you've come to that conclusion. If they weren't going to help then none of the main group would win, which is what happened. They werent even close.

In the breakaway group they all took turns leading, which drove the whole group forward. And then when the two winners broke away they kept swapping the lead.

Huh? I watch most major tours every year.

Isn't that exactly the point? At no point did GB try and switch things up, ok a few of the Germans tried to help but it was painfully clear what was happening ahead. They just persisted by leading the peloton.
