London 2012 Olympic Competition

This is too easy, like shooting practice for America. They're hitting 3 pointers as if they were lay-ups. 49pts in one quarter!!

49 points in the first quarter. Quarter, not half.

On pace to score 196 points...

Also, the FIBA 3pt line is around 1.5 feet inside the NBA line. So the 3s are mid-range for NBA guys.

Stupid idea to do that, no wonder they keep draining 3 pointers so easily.

did that canoeist just show the finger on national telly?

Only thing missing from that half was Blake Griffin and his dunks, otherwise this is as easy for the US players as the all-star game.

Imagine if we had Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard, and Dwayne Wade healthy...

I'm waiting for someone to throw a bucket of confetti on a Nigerian or for the US to bring out the step ladder.

 100 points halfway through the third quarter.

Melo has 37 and has scored more points than any US player in the Olympics.

US are a bit scary. Bryant, Anthony, James and Durant in a team is exceptional. I feel sorry for Spain (who is the team I support in basketball) when US will meet them (preferably in final).

Better to don't imagine it. Don't you feel sorry for their opponents. This team is the best I have ever seen in international tournaments and if those three would have been those 3 then this team would have been as good as legendary 'dream teams'.

That's the record for the number of points in one Olympic game. Pathetic from Nigeria, at least contest the shots.

Melo must love this role, all he needs to do is score points and not bother with D.

Finished with only 156 pts. Well that was fun.

Had front row tickets at the Sweden v Iceland Handball game. Was immense. Rallying Sweden to tie the game in the end but wasn't to be!

FAO resident Swedes.

How do you currently like them meatballs? :smirk:

Anti-Scandinavian bastard:p

Sweden suck at all sports atm so not surprising we lost in handball vs fishermen hehe.

I'm probably a huge curmudgeon (well I know I am, so there) but this insanely sycophantic bias coverage is starting to get on my tits. If it was any other country - specifically the US - we'd find it unbearable.

And to think of the grief people give even slightly bias football pundits & commentators.

you think it's bad in Britain? - don't watch Australian or US coverage, mate. You'll be lucky to see an event without a native competing, never mind hysteria that leaves the BBC for dead.

There are events without American competing/winning?

Not sure why people are complaining about the coverage. The BBC have 24 channels so we can switch off and watch a not GB sport if we really want. Plus they aren't any more biased than most countries.

I wonder if Australia is giving Chris Hoy the same kind of accolades the BBC gave to Thorpe in Sydney and Athens.

You got a silver in the double trap shooting, the commentator hadn't even realised the Swede was in second place until just before it all finished!

I'm sorry if you missed it because your man was so pleased about it, he was a big guy with a less than athletic physique and he was really excited.

The shooting final was brilliant. Swedish guy was adorable. Bognar sounded like a Bond villain and looked like a bricklayer.

...which they showed on the BBC.

Not sure what people are really complaining about. BBC tries to cover as many events as possible on BBC1 or BBC2 but can not possibly show them all so obviously it focuses on events in which GB are competing. Everything else you can watch online/red button/BBC3

Not the best example to use given the guy who won gold was British.

Federer looks poor against Del Potro. Too many unforced errors. I can see him lose.

Federer won the tiebreak, but it wasn't easy (7-5). 3rd and final set now.

Can't get enough of the 'natural sound' audiotrack on the Youtube Olympics channel. Brings the dullest of sports alive -- great idea.

Nerve-wrecking 3rd set. Del Potro's serve keeping him in the game.

Del Potro is lucky with cord balls.

This game takes forever. Djokovic and Murray not too happy I think.

Jesus christ, Federer didn't even break Del Potro once in the entire game.

Edit: Federer finally breaks Del Petro and serving for the match.

Not on NBC.

 too true. gets on my tits it really does. got all excited yesterday, there was a swimming event that was supposed to feature Grainne Murphy of Ireland only for her to pull out. :o
even if she was in it though she'd only feature on NBC if she came in the top 3, and then as an aside.
